Dear Staff at ComplaintsBoard.com:

First I would like to show my appreciation toward your website for providing consumers like me a channel where our voice can be heard. Believe me it's not easy to find a place like this, after searching on the internet for hours.

Back to my story. This is what happened to me with Liberty Cleaners.

I dropped off a wool coat at Liberty Cleaners, Plano TX for dry clean in November. It was a 3 years old coat, in mint condition. I wore it every winter. It's THE winter coat of mine. When I got it back and wore it on Dec 6th for the first time, on my way to work, I noticed there were small pieces falling off from the coat. I examined the coat, and found that the leather trim across the front of the coat had broken into pieces. The material got hardened, and crackled. And the crackling was evenly distributed throughout
the whole length. From the way it looks, it looks like some bad reaction to overheat or chemicals.

There was a tag attached to the inside of the coat that reads "defected condition pre-cleaning", but since I was confident the trim was fine, I thought it was about something else. And decided I would ask them what that defect was when I took the coat to them to ask about the trim.

I took the coat to Liberty on Dec 5th. First the store manager said it was manufacture defect, and asked me to take it back to the store. Then he said it was due to cheap material. When I showed him the tag, he immediately jumped on it and said the defect was about the trim. I was surprised to hear him saying that, because I was positive it was fine before the cleaning. He said he can send it to the lab to have it examined to decide if it was their fault or the material. But he had to talk to the owner Mr. Amin Bata and would get back to me the next day.

I didn't get any call from them so I went back on Deb 10th. The store manager said he had to talk to the owner and got back to me.

I made another trip on Dec 12, I got the same answer.

On my 4th trip to Liberty Cleaner on Dec 13, I was put on the phone with Mr. Amin Bata. Upon the beginning, he said in cold tone he was not going to do anything. He insisted that the coat was like that to begin with and he had the tag as the proof. I told him it was not how I remembered. I also pointed out that the tag didn't specify what the defect was, and it was put on without my knowledge. He said that no dry cleaners notify their customers before they put a tag like that on the clothes. I tried to explain that with the way it was crackled, it was not from wear and tear. And if it was like that, I would've noticed. That was when he interrupted me and yelled things like "go ahead take me to a court, in fact I encourage you to do so, because I deal with customers like you everyday..." and refused further discussion. I was stumbfound and didn't know what to say. Instead of trying to work out a solution, he was basically calling me a liar.

I feel I was financially and emotionally ripped off.

I submitted a complaint to Better Business Bureau the next day, but haven't heard from Liberty Cleaners so far.

I'm glad I found your website where I can tell my story.

I also have a couple of pictures of the coat. As you may see, the trim is in unwearable shape. It's obviously not from wear and tear, but some bad reaction to overheat or chemicals.

I hope other Plano customers learn about my experience with Liberty Cleaners. If you have to go there, run a quick exam of the clothes when you drop them off, with their staff present, make sure they agree on the condition of the pieces, and ask them not to put any defect tag on them without notifying you, as obviously they've been abusing it. They think with something like that, they can get away with anything.

Unsatisfied customer,

Lou
