Cinergy Health review: Fraud

As a result of this and their deceptive advertising practice they lost their BBB membership in the state of Florida. (www.seflorida.bbb.org)

Bureau's Comments and Analysis of Company's Business:
On February 17, 2010, this companies [sic] membership in the BBB was revoked by the BBB’s Board of Directors due to: recent government action involving the businesses customer relations, which indicates a significant failure of the business to meet standards of conduct, expected of a BBB member."

Cinergy and American Medical and Life (AMLI) were issued a cease and desist order by the state of Arkansas. (Reported by KATV news 2/25/10)

"Little Rock, AR - State Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford has suspended the non-resident business entity producer’s license of Cinergy Health, Inc. pending the outcome of an administrative hearing scheduled for March 11, 2010, at the Arkansas Insurance Department.

In his order Bradford stated, “For the public health, safety, and welfare of the people of this State, the Commissioner concludes that the Respondent’s non-resident business entity producer’s license No. 321374 should be and is herby suspended…”

Cinergy Health, Inc., headquartered in Florida touts itself on its Web site as a nationwide provider of innovative and affordable health insurance solutions. “This statement could not be further from the truth, ” said Bradford. An investigation into Cinergy Health by the Florida Department of Financial Services resulted in an administrative complaint being filed alleging the company produced and marketed television advertisements for limited health insurance plans underwritten by American and Medical Life Insurance Company (AMLI), a life and health insurer. According to the Florida complaint, AMLI has had no association with Cinergy Health, Inc. since August of 2009 when it put Cinergy on notice to immediately cease selling any AMLI products and to terminate any advertising related to ALMI products.

Commissioner Bradford stated, “We do not currently know if any Arkansas insurance consumers have purchased any products from the company.” Florida found that the advertisements produced and marketed by Cinergy contained false and misleading information concerning the health coverage to be provided.

Anyone who may have purchased a product from Cinergy Health, Inc. is asked to contact the Arkansas Insurance Department’s Legal Division at [protected] in order to determine whether what they have is a legitimate policy.
