We ordered glass tiles from Daltile for our kitchen. We picked the color on the basis of a sample box. The tiles that were delivered came from a different lot and had a color that was quite different from the sample box with the same color labels. Unfortunately the contractor installed them before we could catch the error, and we were out several thousand dollars for the material and labor. Either their quality control is lousy or they accidentally packed "olive oil" (GR08) in boxes labeled "Cream Soda" (GR18). Lessons learned:
- open every box of tiles to check the color
- check that every box has the same lot number, not just the same color
- dont wait several weeks for a new lot if they tell you they're out of stock; you'll delay the installation and there's no guarantee that the new lot will be the color you want. Just go to another manufacturer
- dont bother contacting Daltile customer service if you have a problem---they ignore letters and e-mails. The only way to get them to pay attention is to take them to small claims court, at which point they may offer a settlement to avoid the time lost by having one of their employees appear in court !
