The staff at Fontile highly recommended a contractor who calls himself 'Jack of Tile' to install the tiles they sold me for my kitchen. The contractor neglected to inform me that there was a problem with the measurements around the dishwasher. There was not enough space to remove the dishwasher, install the tile and then put the dishwasher back on top of the tile, so he simply tiled around the dishwasher. A couple of years later when I tried to replace the dishwasher I was told that the old one could not be removed without breaking it into pieces and there is not enough room for a new one.
I know that Fontile is not responsible for fixing a problem caused by an independent contractor. What makes me angry is that when I complained to the owner he said 'He couldn't comment on this because so much time has passed'. In other words there doesn't seem to be any consequences for the tile setter and therefore I would expect that Fontile will continue to recommend him to others.
The tile setter was very experienced and also very expensive. It is not possible that this was a mistake. He was in a hurry to collect his money and go on to the next job. Dealing with the dishwasher problem would have obviously caused a delay.
It is very unfortunate that Gary Kershaw, the owner of Fontile continues to encourage his staff to recommend tile setters who are responsible for causing these kinds of problems!
