Frequent calls from "unavailable" number 8am through 2am. Caller never spoke when answered, until today 05/16/2008. Caller was rude and hung up immediately when identity challenged.
What these people are doing is called SCAMMING. I ordered mags from this company and when I told them i wanted to cancel they sd I couldn't. They say they pay the balance in full themselves and what we're doing is paying them back their money. Yeah ###ing right! I've asked plenty of people and they have NEVER heard of a company doing that. That is the stupidest ### I have ever heard. That would be like if you bought a car and the loan company said they will pay the full amount of the car off and all you have to do is pay them back. That would never happen, but then again the place were you are getting the loan is a REAL BUSINESS. And that 20 unknown calls I get every day are VERY ANNOYING. I don't know any business where when you call it goes to an automated recorder and then they don't call you back until the next day!? They just sent me a letter saying my balance is 567.00 and if I don't pay they are going to send to a collection. All I have to say to them is when you piss a customer off you wonder why they don't want to pay you! I've also told these ppl to stop taking money off my credit card and they continue to do it. Even after i told them not to five times!

I was phoned by these people and listened to the whole
line they give.I was told i would recieve a conformation letter and if i decided to cancel to sign and return it within 10 days. I recieved the letter, signed to cancel and returned it the next day! My acc.Was still charged and when i called to confront them they said they never recieved it.Bull ###. The Witch was rude and condescending and i got the same crap about the mags already being pd for.I get countless unknown calls and no returned calls. In fact she said i never left any messages. What a bunch of ###! Beware ! Now they are calling leaving a message stating that an error was made and they want to know what address to send the refund check to. Dont fall for it. They will only threaten to send you to collections and demand payment.

I just got a call two weeks ago from them and had never heard of them before and definitely had not ordered anything.
Go to the website for the Better Business Bureau. www.bbb.org
You can file a complaint and they will work to get you either a refund or out of the contract or both. And best of all they are a non-profit advocacy group so they will not charge you anything. You have to enter your address and contact information and Gulf Coast Readers info as well.
This is Gulf Coast Readers info in case you have lost the paperwork:

I wished I had known what this was all about. The got me because I had ordered with another company. So when these people called and asked if I was happy with my magazines I said no becaused I had not gotten any yet. The person I was talking to said he would need to check my information. Just like a ninny I read off my information as he asked questions. He said he would make sure everythings was correct with the magazine companies I was getting magazine from. Now I find I am getting magazines from a different company. I would like to know what recourse is open to me.

I agree with every one of the 24 complaints I've read (there's probably more). Gulf Coast Readers, Inc. shouldn't be called a "business, " instead it should be called STICKING IT TO YOU" business. The crack pots running this place must be on some kind of drugs. Their business policy is NUTS. The customer service is rude, confusing and understandably so, they are irrational. Weather its pin-the-tail-on-a-donkey or keep your eye on the hidden pea, these guys are nothing but con-artist. They are rips offs, squanders, liars, snake oil salesmen/women, you name it everything but nice.
DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. They have no intention of providing the public with a respectable business service. There intention is clear. Razzel-dazzel, yacky-yack and give me your money. Oh and don't even try to chance or get a refund. Once they have your money the story's over (for them that is).
It is real sad to see people do such things as Gold Coast Readers, Inc. So many other people are working hard to make a legitimate living and barely getting buy and these guys are just ripping people off. Shame on you. Remember, what goes around comes around.

I fell for this scam too. I haven't got the magazines I had ask for and I have been called and harassed saying I needed to pay more money to them.I had tried to cancel it before I ever received any books. I am out several hundred dollars and have a box of junk magazines to burn. This company needs taken down and should be made to make it right with everyone they have scammed and stole money from. They were going to take more money out of my acct. but I had got it closed before they got to hit me up more then what they already had.
