Agent Craig Doty
We dealt with this branch when it was MetLife Home Loans, but the manager remains the same: Craig Doty, NMLS 242521. It was a thoroughly frustrating experience that ended up needlessly costing us hundreds of extra dollars and valuable time. If you're considering doing business with Doty, I highly recommend you keep reading...
My family lives in Chicago and, in 2009, we purchased a condo near Los Angeles. Doty's branch was one of only two financial companies authorized by our builder, so our choices were limited. First, Doty was slow in executing our mortgage application, which led to multiple delays in scheduling our closing. After it was finally scheduled, the problems continued. Following repeated assurances that everything was on track, we made plans to fly to California from Chicago to be present for the closing. We took a week's vacation and bought airline tickets. But once we arrived, we were stunned to learn that, according to Doty, our loan had been approved but not funded. Why he didn't have this information weeks, or even days, earlier is inexcusable. He assured us that the funding would come through while we were still in California. Days went by. Phone calls and emails to Doty went unreturned. You can probably guess how this ends.
The day before we were scheduled to leave California, Doty told us the documents he had earlier faxed to Metlife's underwriter were all blank due to fax machine problems. The underwriter did not bother to tell Doty, and he didn't bother to follow up. We left California without closing on the condo. Doty refused our request that he reimburse our travel costs, which we saw as an issue of principle, but what truly angered us is that he initially agreed, because of his screw-up, to pay the extra $150 notary public charge in Chicago incurred because we couldn't repeat a trip to California for the now-rescheduled closing. In the end, Doty failed to keep this simple promise as well, and we were charged for the use of the notary.
Since the closing, Doty has not returned our phone calls. We've also twice written MetLife and received no response. We're not sure if our lousy experience was the result of laziness, carelessness, incompetence, or all three - but in our opinion, Doty's inability to accomplish simple tasks - such as faxing documents, meeting his own stated deadlines on multiple occasions, and returning phone calls - should give any prospective client pause.
We're not sure why Doty is no longer affiliated with MetLife, but it would not surprise me if we weren't the only ones who've complained to the company. His resume online says PrimeLending is his third company in four years.
I am glad you had a positive experience with Doty because I do not wish our experience on anyone. Hopefully he has cleaned up his act. Still, for anyone dealing with this agent make sure you keep on him. This was home purchase number six for us, so we were not exactly novices. To this date, he has still never returned any of our phone calls.

fraud/predatory lending
Prime baited and switched us in a refinance loan. We were quoted a rate with countrywide. came to closing with significantly higher rate. They opened title co on xmas eve to close loan and gave back part of points promising we could refi out in a year - yeah right. Loan had to be bought back by prime because they screwed it up so badly. They certify in loan docs that they sell off all loans- we are an in house loan they cant sell. They are trying to foreclose and have treated us like s--t . Wouldnt allow us to repair our home from water damage with insurance company funds. They wanted to be contractor and we refused to turn over funds to them. They have accelerated our loan and a suing us to force us out and to hide their fraud. They are malicious and unlicensed. I have evidence of other fraud in their company were I appraised a property for a refinance. Jerry Frey their "loan officer" went ballistic when he did not get the predetermined value he wanted. He got some bozo to give him what he wanted and they [censored]d the appraisal by $300, 000. This went to chevy chase bank which was one of the baoil out banks - i wonder why? Their loan officers do not abide by USPAP, Hud, HVCC and have no scruples asking for predetermined values. They absolutely suckl! Avoid Prime Lending at all cost. Run Run Run

I was trying to purchase my first home earlier this year. I found a home in Terry and found a loan company to work with. At first I had good hopes, and everything seemed fine until about a month and a half later. My loan officer would tell me something and then change the story and it didn't sound right so I contacted Mississippi Home buyer's Advantage program myself to check on some of the things the loan officer told me, I found out he was lying and told me that the government change the law just to cover up that he didn't know what he was talking about. Several times I found myself contacting either the MS Home Buyer's program or the FHA to check on what my loan company was telling me. They were not helping me and working with me. I stayed with them only because I there was the $8, 000.00 Tax credit deadline and I didn't want to start over and miss the deadline. At first I was told I would only have to pay $500.00 down and then I was told the laws were changed and I would need $1, 500.00 down, so I had to scraped up over $3, 000. in one month to pay off a debt they told me needed to be paid off first and to cover the $1, 500. for my down payment. In the beginning they never told me that you had to have proof of the down payment before you could process the paperwork, I thought I would have time to save up the money. I had a couple of months where I did not have a bank account because of my debt problem and I was told the government grant programs would not accept cash, I called the FHA and the MS Home Buyer's Assoc. and found out that was not true. I was not told that I had to prove where every penny I deposited came from, so I had some problems explaining some cash deposits I made. I feel like I was just being given excuses because my loan officer didn't know what he was talking about. After about 3 months of stress, being broke and frustration I had all the paperwork I needed to process my loan. I asked them several questions or emailed to make sure they received some paperwork; no one would ever answer my questions or let me know that they got the paperwork. I got so frustrated I ended up filing a complaint to the BBB on them, after that I was told that my paperwork would be turned in but that my loan officer could not talk to me anymore. I felt like I was just being strung along and my time was being wasted. A couple of weeks later my real-estate agent emailed me and said in case I hadn't heard my loan was denied and she listed the reasons. I have yet to hear anything from the loan company stating that the loan was denied or receive a letter stating the reasons it was denied as I know they are legally supposed to do within 30 days. The reasons my real estate agent told me they denied me was because they did not have proper documentation of where certain deposits came from, I gave them proof of all of those deposits and some of the proof that they should have received from other people in emails, I kept asking if they received them and they would never answer me. I have since gotten another loan company and within a week I had my paperwork and it will probably be ready to close within the next couple of weeks. Because of the time I wasted with the first loan company I have lost the $8, 000.00 tax credit. My first home buying experience for the last six months has been one of the worst times of my life, when it should not be this hard. I have suffered stress, depression, money problems and more because of a company that does not know how to work with and treat its customers nicely. My second experience is going quickly and I am not having half as many problems. I feel that this company has done more illegal activity besides not contacting me to let me know I was denied.

I had a similar experience as the first poster. Phone calls and emails went unreturned. Zero follow up. Last minute rushed calls to provide documents that they could have asked for weeks earlier.
I found the above review of Craig Doty's services about a week after I had started talking to Craig about a home loan. My stomach sunk, Craig had been such a wonderful person to speak with on the phone, so reassuring, comforting and responsive to my calls/questions. But would this go away once we were locked in? I reached out to the people that had referred me to Craig and made sure they really liked doing business with him. Both said absolutely so, we gave it a go.
I am so glad I did. Yesterday, 7/18/2011, I closed on a home in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. During the whole process Craig returned my calls extremely quickly and emailed often with items he needed and/or updates. Every Friday, regardless of how much "new" information was available Craig sent out a "Friday Follow UP!" email that made sure all of the parties involved knew exactly where things stood.
Every date that was sent by Craig was met from the dates he said he'd send things to the underwriters, the dates the escrow company would get the loan packet and the date the loan would fund.
All of my interaction with Craig was done by phone and email. It wasn't until the day I was signing the notarized loan documents that I met Craig in person. Even though he didn't need to be there, Craig made himself available for the notarized loan doc signing just in case we had any questions.
I can't recommend Craig enough.
