i saw this complaint and i checked it and it is true
recently a ad on indian news papers posted by sabu kurian and stmarysirl say that there is direct medical program with no donation etc. and promises USA equivalency MD education. THIS IS A LIE. He is advising people to study at AIMU(American International Medical Univeristy), AIMU is a "medical school" in a caribean island not in the usa. Students from there pretty much have no chance of getting a US MD program because they will not be able to get residency in USA. AIMU is run by a tamil nadu man name dr. raj, he is not even a real doctor. Some of my friends went to his school. They or none of their classmates were able to complete their education in the USA. PEOPLE WHO STUDY THERE WILL HAVE NO EQUIVALENCY TO INDIA, UK, OR CANADA. if you study there us hospitals will not take you for residency because it is a bad caribbean medical school. Only caribean medical school like Ross, St.johns, AUC, and one other medical school is approved to practise in US. You will only have a 5 percent chance of getting US md degree if u go to AIMU.

AIMU is an accredited institution. The institution conducts many training and outreach community programs such as medical camps. These medical camps are organised in collaboration with various local organisations, which promote a hand-on approach to learning.

Strongly agree with this complaint. Everyone please beware of "samronald" and "US docotrs". The guy claiming to have received top notch education from AIMU can't even spell doctors right. That should tell you guys something. These guys have been on multiple forums saying the same thing. AIMU doesn't have a single student doing residency. AIMU is a substandard school. I was a student there so I can tell you. The school has potential for growth, but any good teacher is fired by the admin. The admin is basically 3 people, Raj Babu, Umarani Natesan and Sasi. They all have Dr in front of their names, but frankly no one knows why.

They run the school with some weird logic. Students who ask questions and raise issues are belittled and treated like crap. Raj never answer questions directly and avoids confrontation with parents. He and Sasi lie about students who ask questions - making up fake accusation and failing them. Any student will attest to this. They fire top notch faculty because they either support students or question them.

In any institutions, there may be some positive faculty and some time negative guys, any admin want to run their institution positively with good intention . The positive guys stick to the job negative guys leave and go not to one school several school .These guys never happy in one place, it is their attitude . If they talk negative, it is their problem it is not institution problem .

i am verry sad to say i am a citizen of st lucia, my wife and many other friends attended this school and it was a wast of money i am being verry honest dont wast your time and come to AIMU the reason the government has not shut down this school is because people in the area getting a rent from some indians and african students who has been treated like they live in a cradle . the Classes are not standard every cemester the courses would change teachers dont stay, one teacher begin a subject, next thing you know, hes fired or gone another continue a different subject, this is just madness in this school. I had to get my wife out of there, I have surched while my wife was there for the two years we enquired asd surched and found no one who succesfully completed the medical and is working well for sure no doctors working St. Lucia who studied at AIMU, If i am not telling the truth i would like some one to cast the first stone and whoever cast the first stone as a citizen of st lucia, then will i expose AIMU so u dare not! . these students were kicked out of the hospitals here for AIMU not paying dues and this is a fact my close friend was one, she is home now and not even sure weather she will have to go start her five years all over again, most of the students has transfered to Spatan health science in Vieuxfort st lucia which is far better with known doctors working here and abroad, so dont waste your time with AIMU best you Go spartan medical school or find another place . THATS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

I`m a student in AIMU . I agree with the cheap attitude of management . It used to be like that . As someone mentioned above, now the University is using its potential . Now aimu has very good teachers . The administration has changed, before it was more like a family business . Now they have qualified staffs . u mentioned ``PEOPLE WHO STUDY THERE WILL HAVE NO EQUIVALENCY TO INDIA, UK, OR CANADA", u r almost right about it . But not fully . If u study in AIMU or SGU(one of the best Caribbean university ), u need to be successful in the licencing exam in any country u wants to work . caribbean universities provides u the opportunity to do clinical rotation in different part of the world .I can prove the validity of the program . say i am planing to settle in canada . 1st step ) visit the official site of medical council of canada and check the requirements . http://mcc.ca/examinations/mccee/application-information/ is the official site . see the eligibility :
1)
You must be a student in the final 20 months of your medical school program or a medical graduate
2)Your school must be listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED)

ok now u can check if AIMU has listed in imed in https://imed.faimer.org/

Enter college details, now u can see this : https://imed.faimer.org/results.asp?country=306&school=American+International+Medical+University&currpage=1&cname=SAINT+LUCIA&city=Gros+Islet®ion=CA&rname=Central+America%2FCaribbean&psize=25

Now u r eligible for appearing the exam . as far as i know imed is an universally trusted list so that any college in the list have valid/internationally accepted course .
i found the same in uk and us residency program eligibility . it`s ur fault that u cannot pass the exam .

the most important problem is when anyone wants to take admission in AIMU, they might do research about the college but they won`t do any research anything about educational system. many of my friends left the college because they didn`t know anything about USMLE . after coming here they came to know about it . then they weren`t ready to put the effort to study for the usmle. USMLE is not an easy exam, and it asks u for many things for the matching . one requirement, the md degree with proper accreditation and credit hours is providing by the university . if u really know what usmle is u would have taken any bs before md program and kaplan coaching while ur studies . some students join AIMU to do usmle without even knowing usmle has 3 steps and second step has again 2 parts . the main problem of AIMU is that hey are taking students without passion .
visit website of aimu : http://www.aimu.us/

currently i`m doing basic science, i`m about to start my arrangements to start my clinical rotation in the USA .
http://www.wmsi-edu.us/bs-md-mph-program/ NOW i can do masters in public health in monroe college New York along with my clinical rotations if i want to .

And for nursing program, a lot of st.lucian students there .

India. During the year 2007

while in Andhra Pradesh, India; via a newspaper advertisement I learnt of AIM-U.

The advertisement indicated that the school was located in (USA) United States of

America. Study MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Science) in USA for

13.65 Lacs (this is equal to 35, 000.00USD). There was a contact number on the

advertisement. I can’t remember the contact number. I called the contact number and

spoke to someone who identified himself as Deena. He asked me to come to his office

in Bangalore, India. When I got to the office I was introduced about the school by

Raju Babu Saravanan. Raju Babu Saravanan told me that the school was an old school

and there have senior students there. He gave me a couple of numbers for students in

Saint Lucia. I called the numbers and the students spoke well about the school. They

said there have good facility at the school and there was a teaching hospital. Raju

Babu Saravanan then gave me application forms and vouchers for AIM-U. When I

met Raju Babu Saravanan he had a Compaq laptop and his screen desktop background

is the world map. It showed the Saint Lucia as part of USA. There is a line below

Saint Lucia and he said above the line is USA and below is the Caribbean. At the time

I believed Saint Lucia was part of USA. After talking to Raju Babu Saravanan I

returned to my home which is about twenty hours away. I discussed the school with

my family. We did not decide as yet if I would go to the school. I got a number of

calls from the office in Bangalore, India where I met Raju Babu Saravanan. When

they called they would ask me if I would join and what’s the problem and when am I

going to join. I said I would call them back on each occasion. One day I discussed

AIM-U with one of my friends; he was also interested to join AIM-U. He asked me

more details about AIM-U. His father insisted to me to go to the Bangalore office and

find out more about AIM-U. I then travelled with my friends to the Bangalore office.

Raju Babu Saravanan who introduced himself as IAS (Indian Administration Service)

Officer and also he said that he is and Indian Scientist and Neuro Surgeon. He then

spoke about the school. My friend and his dad wanted my friend to take admission but

wanted me to also take admission so I can join his son too. So at that point I called to

my mom and told her of the school expenditure and asked her if she can support me to

take the admission. Then she said go ahead fill the application and pay the fees. My

friends dad paid my registration fees and later collected from me when I went back

home. We went back to home after completing the registration. This happened

sometime in March or April 2007. One day I got a call from Raju Babu Saravanan to

assist him in my city. He came to my city to advertise his school. At that time allot of

people came to know about the school. About seven people took admission at that

time. Raju Babu Saravanan then went back to his city. He called me back one month

later. Since I was already registered as a student he wanted to show them that he

already took an admission. Then about sixty plus students took admission for AIM-U.

One day I got a call from the school saying that I need to apply for a United Kingdom

transit visa to reach to Saint Lucia. I then traveled to Chennai to apply for the visa. I

met Raju Babu Saravanan sister’s husband who I know as Elango Babu. He received

me and five other students. Then he did the visa processing for us. Before leaving the

visa embassy, he took an authorization letter from us, which will allow him to collect

the passports for us from the embassy. Sometime after I left the embassy I got a call

from AIM-U school office. The person told me that the visa is refused and I need to

travel through Amsterdam. I was just waiting to Travel to Saint Lucia along with the

other students who registered for AIM-U. Sometime in August 2007 I received an

Airplane ticket via mail from Raju Babu Saravanan which was for Saint Lucia. They

then contacted me and told me that the ticket was concealed. This a number of

occasions. Twice in August. It also occurred in September and October too. They

used to send the ticket then say it was concealed for some issues. On November 3rd

2007, I got a ticket in a mail and the same mail asked me to report to the office in

Bangalore, India. When I got to the office in Bangalore, India; there was about sixty

plus students. The same story about some issues which prevented us from travelling;

so we were asked to go back. We all went to the Airport to travel and was told that the

ticket was not genuine. So I went back to the office and everyone is talking to each

other and the school people. A couple of parents were there and were not happy. A

couple of parents’ man handled Raju Babu Saravanan because since August he is

telling us wait and it’s like he was playing games. At that time he made a story to us,

saying that one of the students called to the airport authority people and said that there

is a terrorist in the group of students who are travelling, that’s the reason why we were

not able to travel and the ticket is cancelled. The parents are still not happy with the

reason he gave and made him to buy tickets for five people to travel the following

day. About ten people travelled to Saint Lucia in the next couple of days. I did not

travel with them. They gave some students accommodation in the Bangalore office.

Finally I got to travel to Saint Lucia on November 25th 2007. I think I got to Saint

Lucia on the 27th of November 2007. After arriving at Saint Lucia Airport; I came to

know that I came to a Caribbean island and not the United States of America. Ms.

Theresa Pollen came to meet other students and me at the Vigie Airport with a bus

and took us to a five bedroom house in Gros Islet. We used to live with about sixty

people in that five bedroom house. In each bedroom had about six to eight people. I

stayed in the hall of the house with Santosh tirupathi, sasidhar mittapalli, shravan

mutayapu, maram phani kumar and venkatesh. Based on the category of the room or

place you stayed would indicate the price. For staying in the hall they charged

175USD per person for one month. We did not have keys for the house. We just had

to closed the house and leave it unlocked. There was also a security for the house. He

would be at the entrance of the house which is located at the ground floor. The house

hand two floors. A ground floor and first floor. The whole house is just five

bedrooms. We occupied the whole house. We are not supposed to go out anywhere

after six in the evening. We are not supposed to talk to Saint Lucians. They said not to

go anywhere without informing the school authorities. If we went out after six or left

without the school knows, they would threaten us that they would deport us or they

would make us pay some monetary fine. Sometimes they would fine 500USD. They

would call our parents and tell them that we are doing bad things and are not listening

to the teachers. That cause all of us to just do as the school said. School started

sometime in December. It was only orientation. When the school started classes all we

had is about 4 teachers, chairs and boards in the class. There was nothing more. There

was no books, no labs, no Cadavers nothing. Almost fifteen days past in December

and we had Christmas celebration in the school. The whole ministry was in AIM-U at

that time. Stephenson King the UWP Prime minister was there and other members of

the ministry. After the Christmas celebrations two girls got in a car accident. The

students were walking on the road and a vehicle hit them. They were injured very

badly. They were not able to get proper treatment or food. They were not able to get

medical treatment. One of the girls among the two who got hit by the vehicle moved

to the house of an Indian helper who lives in Saint Lucia. This was not liked by Raju

Babu. He started spreading bad rumors about the girl at the school. The girl who got

hit by the car made a complaint to the Indian embassy in India and Surinam. The

school came to know that the case is serious and they came to know that some people

from Indian government were coming to inspect the school. So Raju Babu made a

meeting with the students and he instructed a couple of things to follow. Since he

know the Indian government is coming to check the school and the school had nothing

that is needed in the medical school, he immediately brought some old books and

made a small library. He also brought microscopes and made it look like a biology

lab. He did a couple more things to make the school look like a medical school. Then

he told tell us to tell to the people, that the girl is not good. She came to here to study

and she never used to come to study at the school and used to work in the guy’s house

for money (the guy she went to live with). If you’ll guys do not help the school will be

in trouble and will be closed and we will be sent back home. He choose a couple of

students who are very good to the school and made them to talk to the officials who

came to inspect the school. The girl left the island. She put a case in India and won

some money from him. He name is Jaspreet Kaur. A couple of months passed

without any difficulties. Then Raju Babu used to pressure us for more money. He used

to increase the school fees and used to ask for more money for the house rent and

stuff. The school was providing food for us. It was bad and we wanted stop eating

from the school. When we took the admission they made us to pay for

accommodation and food for one year. They made us to eat in the school and we had

no other choice. I personally paid fees back in India and during school they gave me a

letter indicating that I have not paid any fees and I need to pay the fees to the school. I

brought my receipt to them. After a couple of the investigation by them, they said it

was ok and then collected extra money for my air ticket. Some of the students just

came to do their schooling in Saint Lucia. They finished part of their education at

some other school and transferred to AIM-U to complete the rest of their education.

They were supposed to learn from the hospitals in Saint Lucia. Since the school does

not have any affiliation or agreement with the hospital; Raju Babu made them to study

the same class for two years. He said that they did not do well in the subject and had

to repeat the classes. He made allot of money between this time because people used

pay to come to Saint Lucia to study at AIM-U and would have to go back home

because of the financial difficulty and the school had no proper schedule to run the

school. The school was being taught like a primary school. Couple tried to transfer to

Spartan University, with the help of one of the students who is in AIM-U. AIM-U

people came to know that this guy was helping the students so they put him in jail for

two days with the help of some Police officers in Gros Islet; saying that these students

is using drugs. Raju Babu himself went back to get the student from the Gros Islet

police Station and sent him back to India. The student name is Venkatesh. I personal

faced allot of difficulties because I was not supported by my parents for my food and

expenditure. Back in India during my application process Raju Babu promised me that

I can do part time jobs and make money while I am studying in Saint Lucia. After

coming to Saint Lucia He said it is illegal to work here. I used to suffer allot to eat. I

hardly used to eat every day. When the school started they used to give breakfast

lunch and dinner. After a couple of months they stopped breakfast and only gave

lunch and dinner in limited quantity and used to collect allot of money for the food as

part of our fees. With all these difficulties I was not able to continue my studies

anymore. Raju Babu gave me a part time job in the kitchen so that they will give me

the food. That used to cover my food. Somehow I completed half of my education and

I was not able to continue the rest because they increased the fees from 35, 000.00USD

to 80, 000.00 USD for no reason. I took some break from the school because I was not

able to pay that much for the school. I did some part time jobs where ever I could

have found and paid my school bit by bit. I also begged them to allow me to finish the

school. Raju Babu sent someone to the place I got to do the part time job and asked

them to remove me from work because I am working there illegally. He also sent a

document to the Ministry of Labour saying I am working illegally. I got help from one

of the ministers to get an exemption work permit. The minister wanted to help me but

he clearly mentioned to me that school don’t want the ministry to help anyone of the

students. So I was refused the help from the ministry because of this. I can’t

remember that minister name. He used to work for the UWP (United Workers Party)

at the time. Every time I go for help at the Indian representative in Saint Lucia for

help; Assani used to call the school and tell them that I came to him and talked bad

about the school. Raju Babu would then threaten me and saying that I will never finish

my education if I continue saying bad things about the school. Initially they said you

can pay a little bit and continue your education. After a while they said the money I

was paying was not enough and they made me too wait for two years and did nothing

for me. They did not give me any transcripts for the period of school I attended. They

used to tell bad things about me to all the students. Whenever the new students come

there would always be a meeting in the school and the students would be told not to

talk to me. I used to tell the students all the problem I was having with the school. My

education discontinued. I was able to get some help from Atlantic university and was

able to get an admission from them and continued my studies. When I took the

admission in Atlantic University. Raju Babu called me and asked me to come back to

AIM-U and they will help me with the school fees by making me pay less of the

amount on one condition. The condition was that I need to encourage students to

come to the school. He wanted me to recruit students for him. He offered me 3, 000.00

USD for every student. I refused because I was thinking about the students’ future.

While all that was going on with me I came to know that Raju Babu made the police

arrest a couple of students and staffs saying some false allegations. The allegation for

one student was that the student was missing the documents of the school and made

him get arrested for a couple of days. That student name is Deepak. Raju Babu

himself made the student get released and made him to go back to India. There was

another lady who used to work for the school. Raju Babu used to never pay her good

and treat her good. She wanted to go back to India. He did not want her to back and

made false accusation on her saying that she is doing prostitution and made her get

arrested. He later went to the police, go her release and then got her deported. In 2013,

when I moved to Atlantic about thirty students who followed me and moved to

Atlantic so for this reason Raju Babu used to threaten me and used to send some

people to beat me and harass me. The people he sent to beat me kept on threatening

me and told me to leave the island. Raju Babu even offered me my degree without

completing it. He even offered me a ticket for me to leave the island. I did not accept.

I made reports to the Police each time and nothing happened. At the time I made

reports to Guard at CID. A male officer named Mathurin took the statement from me.

He helped me during that time. I even got a call that time from a guy who is

threatening me while I was with the Police giving statement. I place the phone on loud
speaker and the guy told me to come meet him. Mathurin came with me to meet the

guy who was threatening me. Mathurin told him to leave me alone and let me finish

my education. In 2014, Raju Babu made one girl and a boy who left AIM-U for

Atlantic got arrested for nothing for two days. These students are Ramya Chinta and

Tarun. They are still attending Atlantic University. During 2014, Hadded who is the

owner of the hostel where the AIM-U students live; he came to my home and he

threatened me. He hold my shirt and told me that Raju Babu sent him to beat me up.

He said since he knows me well he is not going to beat me, instead he advised me to

leave the island. I left the island on August 8th 2014. I returned to Saint Lucia

November 2014, to attend school at Atlantic University. Raju Babu his friends still

used to trouble me. After I requested my transcripts for AIM-U. Sahana who works at

AIM-U gave me a transcript. I found out the transcript was fake because they failed

me in three subjects and they put a disciplinary dismissal in it. I am still struggling to

finish my schooling in Saint Lucia. I submitted my transcripts from India to AIM-U

and when I asked for it, I never got it back. When I was working in the school

cafeteria I used to see allot of ministers on weekends coming to the school for dinner.

I also know during elections Raju Babu used to support the parts. ……………………

As a student of AIMU I can say that things are definitely improving. Its been almost 2 years for me now. When I compare how it was from the beginning to now, I can definitely say that things have improved. Also, the students are more responsible for these problems than the school itselff. A dedicated, driven and inspired student will always be able to perform no mater the surroundings. When students, especially Indian, come here hoping to be spoonfed like in India and t hat they can easily pass USMLE Step 1 with just college teaching, then they definitely will have problems. The above statement is justified when you look at the students who claim to have "problems". About the faculty, AIMU has probably the best or one of the best set of Doctors and teachers in the Caribbean. Currently, there are famous doctors of various nationalities from very famous institutions in the USA, UK and India. They are so accessible that a good student would never have any problems academically. Infrastructure could be improved further but it seems to be a work under progress which is definitely good for the upcoming students. Also, the university will soon be one of th few Caribbean schools to get CAAM-HP accreditation which will allow students to practice in the Caribbean and the USA with much more ease than before. So on the whole, AIMU is a developing school and will definitely be a great school if it can continue with the same faculty. Of ocurse there is much room for improvement but it definitely seems like there are much better days ahead. Finally, a very important point for all upcoming students, being able to clear USMLE Steps depends COMPLETELY on the STUDENT and NOT as much on the institution because these are very tough, challenging and unpredictable exams. I hope some of the myths about this college and USMLE are busted with my message. There will always be people with good and bad experiences. Due to 2-3 bad students or students with bad experiences, the whole school and students itself cannot be black marked. There are much better days ahead for the school, DEFINITELY.

AIMU is a med school that is just good enough to make you eligible for US residency program. They provide good Clinical sites in the US. I know students who is currently doing residency in the US. Like someone mentioned earlier, a lot of students come here not knowing anything about the steps so they eventually go back to India and clear licencing exam there. I can't give the names of students in a public comment. If anyone got questions WhatsApp me @ +[protected].
I just graduated and preparing for MCI licencing exam. My point is, for the fees you pay in AIMU, it provides basic education which is accredited by MCI, MCC and ECFMG. And currently AIMU is trying for Carebbian Regional accreditation.
