BlockShopper.com Revolting practices

They invade all of our privacy and make it so easy for identity thief. Yes, this is public information. They are correct. But who gives them the right to place it on the web for anyone to see. Just one click. Their opt out policy is a joke. YOU HAVE TO CONVINCE THEM THAT YOU ARE AT RISK. They want a police report? You must be joking. How money-grubbing is that? Deadbeats, perhaps, who are putting all of us at risk for their advertising monies. Shame on the three 'boys' of blockshoppers.

You can write Mr. Biedermann at [protected]@gmail.com and let him know how you feel. He thinks he has a way with words with his B.S. degree in journalism. Also Brian Timpone at [protected]@gmail.com. I'm sure they would love to hear from everyone. I've filed with the FTC and encourage those who feel they are at risk to do the same. I would also suggest calling all of their advertisers and realtors to voice your concern.

I am displeased with this as well -- did you have any luck with the FTC filing out of curiosity?

BlockShopper.com Published my personal information

Google your name. If you have done any real estate transaction, like buying or selling, getting permits for refurb, or refinancing, your name, home address, the names of all of your relatives, your age, your previous addresses, everything including photos of your house will pop up on Google.

Blockshopper.com publishes all of that information and it pops right up in Google. They hide behind the fact that it's public information. That information, however, has to be sought out and found in your County records. It's not easy, and your County records do not appear in Google when you put in your name. Once Blockshopper publishes it, anyone can find exactly where you live and everything about you and your family.

Blockshopper.com refuses to take the listing off their website. They were successfully sued by a big law firm, but they calculate that the average Joe won't go to the trouble to sue them.

The only way to stop them is to bring this to the attention of your Congressperson. If you don't like it, send your Congressperson a note.

read up on DMCA act and submit the infringing material to each search engine. just because they claim that something is public information DOES NOT give them the right to repost it. Google and the other search engines have a legal responsibility to take their entire site down.

BlockShopper.com Intimidation

An update on continued problems with Blockshopper.com. Although they posted a new privacy policy, they aren't following their own guidelines. I had a letter from my County Prosecuting Attorney's office, written by a Protection Order Advocate. In no uncertain terms, it stated that my name should be removed from blockshoppers site for safety reasons due to a stalker. It also had a copy of the protection order attached to it. Blockshopper apparently decided that because some info had been redacted (to protect what little privacy is left) that they weren't going to honor the request, and they continue to leave my name on their site. Interestingly enough- within days of receiving my letter- they had an attorney mail a letter to my home address threatening to sue me if I continued to speak out agains blockshopper.

I can honestly say that when I read previous postings that said websites & individuals had been threatened with lawsuits by this company, and had therefore disappeared, I wasn't so sure it was true. I presumed it was angry people getting a little bit dramatic. I offer apologies- as I am now one of the people that blockshopper is trying to intimidate while they continue to expose me to a safety threat. I couldn't fathom that any professional business would threaten people or ignore life-safety issues- but blockshopper has shown themselves to be beyond - way beyond- unprofessional.

Blockshopper is parasitic and eventually they'll be forced to change. Doesn't help the average person who is being harmed by them in the meantime

Hi 42sharlet, I totally understand how you fell. When I was around 25, I had a stalker and it was a nightmare. I did not own any property back then but I had to change my jobs and where I live. I also changed my phone number and only gave out my new number to my parents and very few very close friend. This stalker somehow still found me because of his powerful father. So I did this identify change all over again and only took cash jobs. This went on for about an year. Years have passed, but I am constantly under fear that this stalker will pop up again especially now with all this information available on the internet. I am usually very careful on what I register on line.

From what you posted, this website has abosolutely no idea the fear that people like we have to face. They do not understand how dangerous a stalker can be. This website totally ignores other people's safety so they can continue to make money. If one day their kids' safety are put in danger...maybe they will think twice of what they have done to people!

BlockShopper.com The Blockshopper joke

Brian Timpone - Chicago, Illinois
Ed Weinhaus - St. Louis, Missouri
Timothy Landon - Evanston, Illinois

www.blockshoppers.com

Funny thing is they are even turning profits on YOUR names everyone. So mail us all a check, even for the $0.25 or less when split up, that you owe all the people you refuse to remove. If the records are so public then point out the direct source. I read your FAQ and I encourage others to read it as well.. It's a load of BS with the basic tone of "I'm correct on this matter cause I'm correct".

I'm surprised no one has gone a head and sued these fools yet much less physically spam mailed them, use their names and addresses to register anything/everything, or even flat out stalked the ever loving crap out of them. Oh it is only a matter of time till this cup of idiocy, that is their operation, overfloweth with dilemma.

Attorney Sheldon Weinhaus is Blockshopper LLC registered agent in St. Louis MO According to Blockshopper's prostituting web site his January 2009 purchase of the million dollar home address is 10859 Picadily Square Dr. St. louis MO 63146 near his Creve Coure law office. located at 11500 Olive Blvd St. Louis 63141 telephone [protected]. Since BS (blockshopper) pooh-poohs the folks who protest being [censored]d out by BS perhaps direct contact with Mr. Weinhaus will get results, he seems like not a bad guy.

These guys will not entertain opt out requests or in the least removing your personal information from being indexed by the Google search crawler. As a result, when someone Googles your name, the first thing people see in the result page is the price of your property. This is wrong because most people Googling your name are not researching real estate...

BlockShopper.com Invasion of Privacy

This is a new complaint against Blockshopper.com. This website, which supposedly provides "content, " is actually scraping people's profiles, including PRIVATE, profiles. I write this as one of the people that they posted an article about. My issue and complaint is that the career info that was written in the article is clearly copied and pasted from my PRIVATE linked in profile. Obviously if this info was public (like the purchase price of house, seller, etc...) I would not have any issues.

I contacted scarlett (for complaints) and drew (editor) asking them to either provide me with their public sources of information or to remove the article immediately. I also stated that the information in the article was inaccurate. The only response I got is that I can send them updated and corrected info and that they would NOT remove it.

What set me off on this issue is that if you type my name into google, the 1st 4 pages of search results talk about my career as a film producer. I recently executive produced a film titled "The Beatnicks" (www.thebeatnicks.com)starring Norman Reedus (from "The Boondock Saints") and co starring Eric Roberts. My guess is that if they had actually done any research on me, that is the info that would have been published, as opposed to copying and pasting my PRIVATE profile. I know for a fact that this was the case because I have never had a public profile on linkedin.

Has anyone else had this issue? I am seeking council in the next week or so and have verified Terms of Service with linked in to make sure I am not misreading the situation. I would be thrilled to bring in anyone else and get into class action situation.

please contact me at [protected]@aslaninfotech.com if you have had this issue with Blockshopper.com as they can not and will not get away with it.

BRIAN TIMPONE AND PATRICIA TIMPONE (Blockshopper's owners) are crooks who profit from selling your private information without your consent. The person who replies to emails goes by the name Scarlett Simpton, but her real legal name is SCARLETT MELINDA CHAPMAN. Some of their associates are: Timothy Landon, Timothy O'Neil, Robert Navarre and Edward Weinhaus. These people have zero respect or concern for your safety or privacy and they refuse to remove your information from their website, even in extreme cases. There are many documented cases where people are victims of violent stalkers and the owners refused to honor their request to remove their address and name from their scummy site. They don't give a crap about the consequences to anyone. Just greedy, selfish a-holes that couldn't care less about the welfare of others. It doesn't come as a surprise that Brian Thomas Timpone is the son of disgraced & disbarred attorney Leonard T Timpone who filed for bankruptcy in 2005. Brian will soon end up like his father considering all the legal troubles he has amassed over the years.

Interestingly enough, they don't even list their own properties located at 922 LATHROP AVE, RIVER FOREST, IL [protected], 7141 N KEDZIE AVE APT 601, CHICAGO, IL [protected] and 705 DANIEL LN, WILLARD, MO 65781-8321on blockshopper.com. But everyone else – and every other property is ok to list? I guess privacy and security is a right only reserved to them.

BlockShopper.com Blockshopper has severely undermined Address Authentication [without ccv] for online purchases

Thanks to blockshopper.com, credit card fraud is easier than ever. There is no longer a need to hack into a database to get credit card numbers, names and addressses. All a criminal needs is a credit card number and name (or lots of them). Now simply google the name on the card, and they have your full, valid billing address. Combine the 2 together (name, credit card number and billing address), and the criminal can now conduct any fradulent transaction online so long as it does not require the ccv code on the back of the card. My research shows that 1/2 of large scale online merchants do not require the ccv. http://www.merchantaccountblog.com/284/only-half-of-top-ecommerce-sites-require-card-verification

FTC says this is all fine though, addresses are public domain. Their reaction to me was "Its legal, but I'll file your complaint anyway".

Even worse is that blockshopper.com makes automated fraud easier than ever! Who needs to google when one can write an automated program to gather addresses from blockshopper.com. They don't even require captcha codes (to prevent automated bots), no audit records required of who queried the data, and no opt-out option. The S___ is going to hit the fan, just wait and see.

Blockshopper is a company that is making tons of money selling people's personal information.
they say the information is public, however they are making money out of people's personal information by posting it and selling on the internet. By posting people's full name's, addresses, photos and other this company is putting peoples safety at risk. Blockshopper will not remove people's personal information from their website if requested.
I really don't understand why nobody is doing anything about this?. If addresses are public domains names are NOT.
They have no right to publish to the whole world one's personal information.
This site needs to have the option to opt out or to be shut down

BlockShopper.com Privacy and safety concerns--unsolicited publication of full names with addresses and home costs

Blockshopper.com website business model apparently places people at personal and professional risk to become targets of identity theft, stalking, and other serious crime. Though Jones Day and their Chicago Law firm filed suit against Blockshopper.com and this website's owners-TIMOTHY LANDON, BRIAN TIMPONE & EDWARD WEINHAUS about trademark infringement, the law firm was also victimized by Blockshopper.com by having their home addresses with their full names published and accessible in Blockshopper.com. Numerous concerns have been expressed by private citizens who in their joy of becoming homeowners were published on that unscrupulous website along with their addresses and real estate information, creating easy access to their information and positioning them to be victims of crime. It seems clear that the Blockshopper.com business model includes the unethical use of people's information for their own business profits and contributes to the crime opportunities and the rise in crime against US homeowners. Do these website business owners have an ethical responsibility to the US homeowners not to publish full names of the real estate information? Many people would agree. Do they have a legal obligation? The websites owners said they don't and will not remove homeowners' information (even just names) when requested. For the sake President Obama's success of stimulating the economy and homeownership, it is hoped that these website owners have a legal responsibility to remove when requested people's information from their website. Can the legal entities that be or the local, state, and/or federal government help citizens with these grave concerns?

Because Blockshopper pulls public records, and scrapes data off of other website, we have not found law that really helps. In regards to DMCA: The law is currently unsettled with regard to websites that contain links to infringing material; however, there have been a few lower-court decisions which have ruled against linking in some narrowly prescribed circumstances. One is when the owner of a website has already been issued an injunction against posting infringing material on their website and then links to the same material in an attempt to circumvent the injunction. Another area involves linking to software or devices which are designed to circumvent DRM (digital rights management) devices, or links from websites whose sole purpose is to circumvent copyright protection by linking to copyrighted material.

If any of you can point us in the direction of more specific law, that would be helpful. Unfortunately the DMCA really hasn't been updated since 1996; when public records were handled much differently, technology wasn't doing what it does today, and Facebook, Youtube and Twitter (popular sites for scraping data) did not exist.

gcbr Have you actually removed your info by using DMCA? I run several websites and have filed my fair share of DMCA complaints all of which were successful. However this is obviously a violation of our privacy but is it a copyright issue? I cant see how

you can do something about it! easily! you don't even need an attorney. you will affect them where it hurts the most.

google and other search engines will take them down.

read up on DMCA act and submit the infringing material to each search engine. just because they claim that something is public information DOES NOT give them the right to repost it. Google and the other search engines have a legal responsibility to take their entire site down.

good bye blockshopper. it's perfectly legal and there is nothing they can do. the entire site will be gone.

My name and personal data is also on Blockshopper. Seems to me that they violated the Real Estate code of ethics. Can someone find out if the Real Estate board can go after them. Im assuming that they are licensed real estate agents/brokers.

I'd like to add my comment to Privacy and Safety Concerns. After several attempts to have my name removed from their database- including sending them legal documentation regarding a stalker that I have had a protection order against- they still have not removed my info. When I began writing to their advertisers to tell them what the business practices of blockshopper are- I then received a letter from blockshopper's attorney threatening me with a lawsuit. So not only are they using information un-ethically, they are attempting to intimidate the people who are fighting against it!

Blockshopper.com gleens other websites to get real estate info to put on their site...for the sole purpose of selling advertising dollars. if you request to opt-out, they say no. they have put peoples' lives at risk and still, nothing. I have called the FTC today and reported them and will keep calling all their advertisers, realtors etc. to get them to...

Blockshopper reveals too much information, privacy and safety concerns. Our names were removed on listing but they continue to publish information.

BlockShopper.com invasion of privacy

They are publishing my name with my address for purposes of profiting off the information. I requested to have just my name not be published in association with my address and they told me it is public information. They are getting the information from the county assessor's office. If any one starts a class action lawsuit or needs a name to sign a petition to a congressional leaders, let me know. I would be happy to supply my name and address for the cause!

I've done a bit more home work...if we can't get blockshopper.com to remove our name, we can work from the other end to get the result of removing our names associated with our addresses off the web...we need to work with the county assessor's office. I called and and found out that if I set up a living trust, which will include my property, my name will not be identified, only the name of my living trust. And as a side bar there are other benefits to a living trust other than this one. Until the laws change, this is one way to prevent our names being associated with our addresses. And if your home phone number is published, all anyone needs to do is take your home address and go to whitepages.com and click on reverse address and your home phone number will appear if it is published. i asked the assessor's office about abbreviating my name or removing my name all together from the title and that is not possible if I am the owner of the property at least in Los Angeles county. You can change your name but that requires a legal name change! This is not what I'm looking to do. But the living trust idea is a good one to consider...what we have to do is work with our city/county and state officials to get some kind of law passed that makes our personal information from the assessor's office available to 3rd parties with our written permission.

I was horrified today when I googled just the street name of my address and to see my full name on Blockshopper.com. I was even more horrifed to see that if you search a name on this website, it will list every asset that person owns. And if you are one of the lucky ones, they even post which company you work for and your position. This is a total invasion to ones' privacy. Many people complained and Blockshopper finally put in an "opt-out" to let people's name be removed from their website. That is if you can prove that you are being stalked with policy records and etc...So basically this "opt-out" option is VERY VERY limited. I do not see this as a real "opt out."

The website kept saying all the records it published is "public records." Yes, it is public records if I known a particular address and I go to the government to request the information or I pay a fee to a private company. What blockshopper does it creates all these links and free indexing so that information about home owners can be obtained in a matter of a couple clicks and it is ALL FREE.

Phone numbers can be blocked why can't the home owners name and assets be blocked? It is one thing to post housing values such as zillow but it is very different when you tag on names and I mean full (legal) names. If I want to know where Joe Smith lives and how much properties he owns, all I need to do is google it and this website will tell you everything regardless where I am (I could be in China). I come from China and I always thought the Americans view privacy very high...I can not believe though that such website can exist. People want to live in a safe environment not being exposed like this on the cyberspace! Please someone start a legal action aganist them. There SHOULD BE LAW written to protect US citizens and residents! We clearly need new laws to govern what is considered "public information" on the internet!

Still very disturbed and shocked about this website. I will never search anything on this website because that will only encourage them to do what they are doing now...people making profit out of other peoples' safety is really not right!

I contend that posting my name, Hernandez, on my property or any legal activities that might be publicly received to potential buyers in the future would conceivably tarnish the value of said property by enabling prospective buyers to form personal opinions based on, race, gender, or historical legal issues, of said property owners, and neighbors, that my otherwise have not influenced them on whether or not the home in question was worthy of purchase.

Unfortunately the laws CURRENTLY allow this information to be public. The laws need to be changed so that companies like these cannot post the information on the internet and make it so readily available. But if they post copyrighted information such as photographs then you have a case and can make them take it down.

Changing the laws probably won't happen so is there anything we can do? YES!

The only reason Internet companies like BlockShopper exist is because they make money by selling advertising. The rate they can charge is based on how many hits they get so try to go to their site as little as possible. But one thing we can do is BOYCOTT any company that advertises with them. List the companies that advertise with them on every forum you can find and spread the word. Write to each company and explain that you are boycotting them because they advertise on BlockShopper who you feel is an unethical company. If they aren't making any money, they can't keep running their business.

If we get a living trust, will that mean they will need to remove our names and addresses? While I understand they can publish public information, I find it infuriating they are using our names for their profit. Don't we own our names? Can our names be used to sell a product we don't endorse and without our permission? I am in the process of contacting their advertisers (Target and Walmart) and their real estate agents. I don't know how much good it will do, but some may not want to be associated with slime.

Thanks for the info.
