I went online to refill a prescription on September 22 2022 for Shoppers Drug Store # 1037 as I have done for years.
The prescription in question is a diabetic glucose monitoring device called "Freestyle Libre 2" which is an electronic glucose monitoring system which is worn on the upper arm. The prescription is set up to dispense 4 units at a time. Each unit should last 2 weeks each. One device was inadvertently ripped off my arm when I rubbed against a door jam, and another device was activated and then two hours later, the device said that it had expired and needed replacement. These were the last two units of my last prescription. Hence needing to refill my prescription
The refill request was rejected. I went into the store to inquire as to why this happened. I was told by the pharmacist that I was 25 days too early for a refill. I have 50 refills available to me. The pharmacist continued to say, if he was audited he would be in trouble. Now, I could completely understand if the prescription in question was a controlled narcotic, but this is certainly not the case. I was told to contact the manufacture and figure it out. Or, I could purchase a single device off the shelf for $119 dollars, which still would not last me the 25 days I have to wait to refill (lasts for 2 weeks). I have been coming to this pharmacy for 27 years. Recently, it has changed ownership and I have noticed a shift in attitude as well as a few other mistakes and transgressions. The only reason I have continued to spend my money here is that it's close to my house. I am not happy and may very well take my business elsewhere.
Desired outcome: Use some professional judgement and exercise some latitude in certain situations to work with a customer to resolve an issue, not just brush me off.
Shoppers Drug Mart - encouraged to use self checkout
I am a senior citizen and was shopping in the chatham ontario Queen street shoppers drug mart today and when I went to the checkout to pay for my goods I was asked, "are you paying with debit or credit?" I answered ‘Debit'. The cashier then advised me that I had to follow her to the self-checkout. I asked her why? She stated that employees are being advised to encourage customers to use the self checkout, it was part of her job. I stated that I prefer to use a cashier rather than a self checkout . She said, if you absolutely refuse to use the self check-out then she will take me at the regular check-out. I felt so bad for her, I let her put me through the self checkout because there were other customers in line at the cashier checkout and no other employees around and I did not want to cause a scene or make others wait because I was disputing this ‘new practice'. I feel that encouraging people to do something that they do Not wish to do is wrong. If this happens to me again, I will be changing my drug store to Rexall or another drug store. I refuse to do self checkout and putting a human being out of work and miss the joy of talking to another human while I end my shopping day.
