I just got a call that I was being served tomorrow for owing CashNet (Cash1) from years ago. I did one of those payday loans, (borrow $250, pay $300) I paid it every month re-upping the loan. If I was one day late, I would get a call (I was planning on coming in that day). I paid off the loan in full and did not re-up. I paid the $300 and did not sign anything that I was getting $250 because I didn't. It was PAID OFF. Now 3-4 years later, after NO phone calls, NO emails I am getting served tomorrow. It's as if they wait 3-4 years and hope people don't have their receipts any longer. I have my conscience that I paid them off, I hope the scammer CashNet can get a conscience.
Recommendation: Don't get a loan through them. If you do, keep all receipts for 10 years.
Immediately request written proof of the debt from CashNet, as they are required by law to provide it under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Document every interaction with them and the details of your original loan, especially if you no longer have the receipt. If you believe the debt is illegitimate or a scam, consider contacting an attorney or your local consumer protection agency for assistance. Also, report the situation to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and your state’s attorney general, as these aggressive collection practices may be illegal. Keep all correspondence as evidence for future steps.
