Covenant Transport is guilty of what is said out here and so much more. New employees are given little information, only false hopes. During training if the new driver is fortunate enough to get a favored trainer, they will get adequate miles. After training however, they are on their own.
If they fit into the underground culture chances are good for surviving, but for those who do not want any part of drugs, drinking, and have nothing to offer in return... a home in a vacation area large enough for entertaining; sexual favors from females; gifts to dispatch;... the company's motto is 'give us enough of your time to get government funds for hiring you and then go away, this is a private party'.
It's a mill for running students through, and the most entertaining last the longest. There is a minority of those who do seem to live a Christian life in the Administration, but are blind sheep. Some drivers manage to break all laws concerning hours of service while others are starved out of their jobs, lucky to get a bus ticket home. DOT does a ridiculously poor job of monitoring or comparing hours ran.
I personally was told by TN Dept of Labor it takes 3 joint complaints to file at Federal level and there are no protections for employees at State level. It's very difficult to find 3 employees willing to risk what they think they have in a job, until they've moved on separated from those met.
It's scary to even have conversations with those who are there because so many long term employees will tell on anyone who speaks negatively about the company and short termers don't have much as much vested, are desperately trying to fit in, while being warned about 'negative people'. Rumors abound that listening devices are installed in rooms, trucks and common areas.
If anyone were to get a class action suit going against Covenant that is open to both present and past employees, they would certainly shake down the house. So many come and go. I would be the first in line to sign up. But like so many others I'm afraid to put too many identifying remarks out here. Is easy to say just find another job, but that's not easy in today's economy and too many jobs on record is damaging. Prisoner of the road.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am a 30 year veteran of trucking. I have been an owner / operator, and also ran a truck shop in the past. I live in Chattanooga, and thought I would go to work for Covenant, after I sold my trucks. At my previous company, I was always in the top 10% on miles, and earnings. Covenant is absolutely a nightmare to work for. Absolutely terrible communication between drivers, and management. Wasted time, wasted money, I could run a sizeable company on just what is wasted at Covenant. A bunch of kids, that are underpaid for dispatch, and have little knowledge of what there doing. And they treat their drivers like Jews, in Germany around 1940. From an old school driver, if you want to drive a truck, don't go to Covenant, you'll do better sacking groceries, or flipping burgers.
I can agree with your statement. I drove actively from 2001 until 2005, when I got out of driving to give my wife a chance to expand her career, and education. Fast forward to the present... I was hired by Covenant in May 2011, went through orientation, and was in the process of putting my belongings in my Trainers truck, when Teresa from the Safety dept called my cell phone. I went in, and she asked why my sleep apnea wasn't listed on my physical, I explained that I had my physical done BEFORE I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. She then sent me to Steve Frazier who asked the same thing, and got the same answer. I also explained to him that it was against Federal law for them to ask me about it when they didn't have me sign a HIPAA release. They sent me home to have a sleep study, and get a letter from my doc. I went back 2 weeks ago, went through orientation again, and then set in that ### motel they have for a week before coming home for thanksgiving. They are now concerned about a medication I am taking... I wonder what David Parker would think if I filed a lawsuit against Covenant?
The day i got back home, I received a job offer from another company, and I think I'm gonna take it.
I am a student at Roadmaster and am "allegedly" already hired with Covenant. I am pretty scared now of what is to REALLY come after reading literally 50 complaints. All I can say is that they better hold up their end of the bargain or else I will be visiting that "white house" in Chattanooga. I am in the hole now 6990$ for my Class A schooling and even they are painting a freaking Rockwell portrait about all the benefits and money I will be making at Covenant. If they screw me I will likely be in Jail for disorderly conduct. I am hopeful though and giving them some rope. It's up to them if they wanna hang themselves. They will get my very best and I hope for the same in return.
Do not work for this company. They are very shady and only concerned about money. They just fired my husband because he prevented a fatal accident. He was driving in New Jersey rush hour traffic in the rain when a car tried to come into his lane. He went over to the shoulder, did go down the guardrail with the truck, but prevented a potential fatal accident. The Safety Committee told him he was wrong for "not holding his lane" and terminated him. He was a trainer. He has over 2 million accident free miles. We are going to file a lawsuit, contact the media, etc. This type of behavior cannot be tolerated. If anyone wants to join us, please let us know.

It's up to the driver to get out of his career what direction it takes. Most these 20 year olds expect to start at the top without earning it. Suck it up work like a man get paid like a man, if you can't handle that go home to mommy. Or ask Obama for your free food and cell phone.
