Our kitty died two days ago in the ER. He suffered from Hemobartonella infection, and also the vet suspected FIP. Since the first day we bought him he had runny nose, eyes, black wax in the ears. Kitty weighted 4.5 lbs being 8 mo old. However, we were reassured that kitty is healthy. Two weeks later we took him to the vet. He prescribed course of antibiotics. Our kitty was always sleepy, he did not want to play. After we finished treatment, the symptoms returned. We noticed that he started loosing weight despite we gave him vitamins, natural dry and wet food. So we took him to the vet again and again he prescribed new oral antibiotic and antibiotic for the ears infection. Soon after we finished the course of the antibiotic we noticed that kitty is having difficulty breathing, and has green pus coming out of his nose. We took him to the vet again, and the diagnosis was Hemobartonella! We were shocked. Our kitty was an indoor cat. He said it is possible that the disease was transmitted from the mother or other cats in the house. Poor kitty started Doxy, Prednisone, IV saline... but the autoimmune anemia was resistant, he progressively was becoming yellow and was diagnosed with jandice, he had nystagmus, became lethargic... and died in the ER. I am heartbroken. I want to warn you not to trust breeders and always check the health of kitty in the vet clinic with a comprehensive check (ie CBC, FIV, feline leukemia, infectious peritonitis, etc.). This breeder had many short nosed devon rex's (selective breeding?). The kitties had running eyes, due to the absence of lacrymal ducts. PLEASE, BE AWARE OF THIS BREEDER (DEVINE DEVONS). Keep your eyes open, and do not let your emotions make the decision. Some breeders want just money and they interbreed between cats, do your research. Otherwise, your heart will be broken and your beloved kitty will die in your arms.

Any person having a problem with a kitten they have adopted needs to contact the breeder asap. This complaint does not tell you anything other than the kitten for some unknown reason did not thrive.

Nothing has been resolved because no one has contacted me, and I am the breeder being slandered in this posting. This is serious and false accusations should not be permitted nor tolerated. No kitten ever leaves our home in the condition stated here!

We placed 2 kittens in April and both owners have been contacted by me and the owners tell me that their kittens are doing well. I have these emails saved and printed.

The name used here, Lemmon, to post this, is bogus. We never adopted a kitten to anyone by that name.

Only Real People with Real complaints should be allowed to post Real concerns on boards such as this.
What happened to treating others as we want to be treated? Have some forgotten the Golden Rule? False people, documenting negative comments, compromising a breeder's integrity (this is illegal), without the breeder knowing there was ever a problem, if there was actually a problem? The person posting isn't even honest enough to tell us who they are?

In our kitten contract, the adopting person(s) is/are instructed to vet the kitten within 72 hours. This is so their vet can assure them the kitten they received is healthy. From that point on, it is up to the pet owner to assure the health of the kitten/cat. There is also a health guarantee in the contract they receive and sign at the time of adoption. When a kitten leaves this cattery is has seen a licensed DVM, is altered(spayed/neutered), and guaranteed to be healthy. Why would anyone pay for and take home a sick kitten?

We know that things can go wrong and we hope that never happens and we want to know if there are any problems with a kitten we have placed in any home (and the health guarantee in the contract is there to be used in the event something unpredictable happens that is related to the cat's genetics). Anyone who has been to our home knows all this. But for someone to publicly make false statements and suggest we inbreed and have problems is not only unfair but damaging. We work hard to better the breed and our Show Achievements can attest to this. We breed for Health, Temperament, and Type (CFA Standards), in that order. Judges, exhibitors, and spectators all handle our Devons. Anyone requesting references, please contact me.

I am hopeful this person steps forward and contacts me so I can better understand what happened here. It is important that anytime we have a kitten fail we know why. How else can we try to prevent this from reoccurring? I know this was not an infectious feline disease because we test for all those. This person has made assumptions without having all the facts. We cannot keep all offspring to know the possibilities of unforeseen problems. We need to work with each other because we do so much out-crossing to keep the genetic lines diverse and healthy that we may not know what other genetic traits we have added. I only wish I knew who this was - did we really have a kitten pass or is this just someone causing trouble?

I am very sorry for any heartache this person may have endured (if they exist), we've all experienced that when we sincerely love our pets, and my sincere condolences if this complaint is real. Please contact me at your earliest convenience, maybe I can help.
