Fixya Unauthorized billing

I had trouble connecting my laptop to the internet. I located FixYa on the web and paid $19.95 for live chat with a so-called expert named 'jonniewalker'. He ran me through several basic steps that i could have done myself. It appeared that he had only very basic computer knowledge. He would give me steps to follow and repeatedly said 'Thank you and Godbless' prior to the computer being fixed. The computer was not fixed and he quit answering my messages.

I should have known better...johnnie****!

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

The online info stated that if this group couldn't fix the problem that the $19.95 would not be charged. The first "expert" hung up on me. The second was unable to solve the computer problem. I emailed the second guy and let him know that his suggestion hadn't worked and that I would like a refund of the charges to my credit card. I rec'd an email from...

Fixya Scam and cheating

I want to explain how this rip off internet company operates. They have online experts who claim to have education and experience that does not exist. I really believe it is fraud to present information that is untrue. Or to charge for services that sometimes the advice given by these so called experts could lead a customer to injury or death. When I brought this up to the attention of Alex their community manager it terrified him so much he felt obligated to just simply delete my account. At this time I am in the process of summarizing the information I have collected to turn over to the Business Ethics Commission, and the S.E.C. as well since fixya is a public traded company. At some point people like this need to be held responsible for ripping innocent people off and misleading them, to separate them from their monies. Let me ask is it not a crime to mislead services for monetary gain. (example : One expert claims to have a degree in electrical engineering but lacks the ability to answer simple engineering questions) These unqualified experts give advice on some items that have capacitors that carry in excess of up to 3000 volts without any warnings of this or the required knowledge to protect the end user from hurting or killing themselves. So in closing what I am really getting at is before you try this service just ponder the thought you are asking advice from someone who lives in a third world country, with very broken english skills, and feels that if he can plug in a cord to an outlet he has the abilities of an engineer without spending the 4 to 8 or up years to gain this knowledge.

I helped a guy from Ohio last night perform a factory reset his tablet. The call took 17 minutes, and he paid $5 - and ended the call happy. If he had walked into Best Buy, this service would have cost him a $199 yearly subscription.

But go on - please tell me how this is a scam.

I'm a 41 yr old woman who recently started her own online business. Buy and sell. I come accross many different items, some I'm familiar with and some that may as well be from Mars.
I'm okay at firguring things out, like when my boyfriend didnt know why the air conditioner wasnt working, I asked if he checked the batteries is the thermostat...
I've even managed to create my own nobs for this dj mixtrack controller :) so proud
But today I've been searching everywhere to find WHERE I CAN GET A DAMN FUSE FOR MY DEWALT BATTERY CHARGER THAT BLINKS RED AND SQUEEKS AT ME WHEN I TRY TI CHARGE MY BATTERY.
I saw this, read your comments and now I'm going to go pay a fixya expert to help me with this annoying problem.
Some of us are real, some of us don't know what a fuse in a battery charger even looks like nd we want to do it ourselves. With a little guidance. I'd be most appreciative to anyone who helped me. So don't give up fixya experts. I need help amd I'll pay. To me it's worth it. So thank you. Honestly, I trust advice I'm paying for more than an opinion given on a forum by whomever...

Hi everyone, I was ready to purchase the most popular $7.95 plan but now that I've read that help is provided by third world country experts, from people who hardly can speak English, and do not emphasize the dangers of high voltage, my decision is not to try this service. Another red flag is, their is no month-to-month trial period, to gain the trust of the subscribers who want to try out the service and decide whether or not to keep it. I noticed there is no way to contact Fixya.com to ask what their return policy after you pay for the entire year. I am suspicious of blindly paying for any service unless I can at least try it, speak to a representative and know if there is a binding contract that works only in the favor of Fixya company. If this is truly a legitimate service, then remove the cloak of uncertainty and mystery. I would feel that the public is owed that much of an explanation if we are going to pay for a service that is reluctant to post more information than just a great story and how much it cost.

I provide answer to many question submitted on fixya site ---no money required --free --gratius
When a question contains exacting details including make and mode, year type of equipment, what was done, when it was done, then a person answering that question can get close to an answer that solves the problem, can answer with experience on a similar product or can create an "outside of the square thinking" that the person who is asking the question can think about and so fix the problem
Most experts who are answering questions for free or payment will all say that the there is a very low level of intelligence shown by the people asking the questions ( just plugged 100 volts into a 220 volt outlet --What happened ?) or a common one-- dropped my phone into water, why WANT it work or for cars --it WANT start.) People who do not understand the english language, have no idea of what they want to ask, cannot describe the part or problem properly post photos of themselves or are just generally brain dead have very little right to complain about the service that fixa site gives to genuine people who genuinely seek information
To those who pay for advice --go pay a shop and then you can argue the response OTHERWISE SHUT UP--to those who ask a question, shoot the expert, and say that they are expert tv technicians, car mechanics and the like, why are you asking a question on fixya site if you are trained in your field in the first place
Free advice whether from an expert, someone who has experienced that same problem and has had it fixed or form some one who is suggesting possible answers to provoke thought is just that--- FREE ----and if you pay for advice then remember you are talking to people from around the world so you have to be very exact or the end result will be that you feel "ripped off"
and yes --There are shops out there in the real world that will tell customers who are rude crude or just plain stupid to go somewhere else and waste that shops time --JUST LIKE MANY QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE WHO USE THE FIXYA SITE

I just got SPAM from Fixya.com telling me 87 people benefited from my solution. I never heard of Fixya.com until I saw the SPAM in my SPAM folder, therefore, I never posted any solution. I was afraid to visit the site to see what it was about so I did a search and found this site. Why would I want to participate in a site that uses such dishonest, deceptive and deceitful business practices?

Agree with complaint, information they provide is inaccurate and damaging to products and they subsequently and conviently offer products and services that can fix problems their advice created.

I the author of this post must understand that, with some knowledge in English language won't make a TV to set it right. ABCD... alphabets have no use when repairing a TV. I'm doing this work since 40 years. I know better than this author how a TV works, and what part to have replaced to certain symptoms. Can locate it within 10 minutes. I challenge whether this author can. He must understand one thing. "An Ounce of Practical Experience; in any technical field is more than a Ton Of Theory" What this author do understand from an LCD TV, which shows only "Green Raster" all time when it is switched ON? Do he rectify this fault with some English words? Check this link my brother. See it once. You won't understand anything. I bet. By the way, what is the fault with all who lives in Third world country? Who live in the 1st world country. You? All of you are cheaters who never say any truth your entire lifetime. What is your specialy. Aren't you a human being. A wizard? A Rhino? Really a Tortoise I should say. Eat, Drink, enjoy with women. Isn't it all of you does. Work for food. Then you'll understand the value of life. check this electronicshelponline.blogspot.com site. You will get an idea of what a man live in a third world country, you uplifts here. You can't never come to use by anyway till you die. OK.

They are a scam, when you search google for problems they spam results that look like it's related to your problem but when you click the page you find that they have taken a word here and a word there from different posts so there is nothing even related to your question on the site!

Fixya Zero support after they took my $

I am having trouble with my Motorola V9m, so I googled to find if others have had problems. Up popped fixya.com, promising to offer "expert advice." I entered my query, and paid $9.95 for what I thought would be fast response from at least one, possibly several "expert opinions." I received one question, which I answered within minutes. Since then -- silence. Buyer Beware.

Fixya.com is so worthless. I wonder why, whenever I use a search engine to find information, that stupid site is there with the first 10-15 results. Why is that?
There is never any information on that site regarding my search so why am I getting results to it?

This kind of search engine link farming should be punished and all results removed.

I also was dropped after they took 29.99 from me (I was supposed to be charged 9.99 per month after my 7 day "free" trial) Contacted them for an explanation, waited 72 hours for response. 6 days later-nothing! Also, my problem was not fixed. The tech offered me a solution, it didn't work-when I emailed back--nothing. SCAM!

My experience with a problem has yielded NO results and some pretty stupid and sophomoric recommendations. Clearly the "advisors" in general have no real experience or product knowledge. Their service is very poor and the advice offered of no real value. Save your money and look elsewhere!

why they expect experts to come to their house, 10.000 miles away and repair for free a black box and then get kicked. Like hey, cell phones are throw-aways no matter what price category. Would I try to solder that the bill would be 10x a new phone. Next time just put up a free question and get this free sound advice from a lot of experts.

you expect miracles that don't happen. Come with a 1000 phones on a pallet then we might talk.

One expert advice like outside FIXYA shopping repair centers, same risk, same problem but there it costs always and it is your part of the deal to choose where to buy or let it repair.

Most of FIXYA service is for free trying to help the down and out or totally unknowledgable. You want priority devotion, you pay.
Time is spent on you. 99% of the time experts devote their advice for free.

only 10% thank you's, 40% don't even read their answers.
10% want social contacts and only chat (yep), 5% abusers.

Some of the worlds best mechanics, technicians and engineers operate on FIXYA for fun. We also have lesser gods. And some problems can't be solved from the distance and although clarification is asked, more question marks come back and we drive on. 30/day is an average
