Today is October 30th, 2022. On July 30th, 2022 we hired Contractor, Thomas Moran of Mante Backing, for deck repair work due to a very large and heavy tree limb falling on our deck (not from a storm). The tree was approximately 70 feet tall and we hired a different company to remove the tree. Thomas Moran's paperwork has address 410 Sunrise Highway Babylon NY 11704. That address belongs to a different company, StairGlide NY Medical Supply in West Babylon NY 11704. We went to this location to inquire if Thomas Moran was an employee and they said they do not know anyone by that name. Then we checked the seal on the paperwork. The seal says Mant Backing Corporation April 2022 New York. (spelled without the 'e') registered at 55 Jenkins Avenue, N. Babylon, NY 11703. This address is a neighbor around the block, Theo, who claimed not to know Thomas Moran too well, but told us that he had birthday cake for Thomas' Mom on his deck after the deck work was finished. Our deck work is not yet completed, waiting 3 months, and Thomas Moran keeps rescheduling work dates. Paperwork marked PAID IN FULL for $2,695 and we are still waiting for it to be completed. While deck work was in progress, we discovered there was an issue with the roof, that the tree limb hit the roof first and bounced off to the deck with heavy impact. Thomas Moran assessed the damage and found a split rafter. He then provided an estimate for the roof work and wrote the paperwork up PAID IN FULL, $8,750. This paperwork was submitted to our insurance company, The Hartford. An insurance inspector came to our home and analyzed the damage, he found 5 rafters split, not just the one Thomas Moran identified. The insurance company will now be sending an Engineer because there are several split rafters, structural damage. We have learned that Thomas Moran has deceived us and cannot be trusted. We have instructed him, via his email address [protected]@gmail.com and via his mobile phone [protected], to NOT come onto our property and to NOT contact OUR insurance agent.
Another item paid for was an attic fan and electrician, $700.00, this work never materialized either with Thomas Moran constantly rescheduling. We do not have a receipt for this item.
As we await the insurance company Engineer to arrive and determine the full scope of the damage, we are in the process of getting roof estimates to have this work done by someone else.
Thomas Moran was paid in full, and 3 attachments show what I have described here. Total $12,145.00.
Desired outcome: If T. Moran is not able to be held responsible, then Mant Backing, 55 Jenkins Ave NY Seal this work was done under, should assume responsibility.
