Hi Sir,

I am writing this mail with respect to a malpractice which I have observed at Indian Oil Petrol Pump outlet in Pune. This is specifically related to a Petrol Pump situated at Parvati ( Dandekar Bridge ), also known as Parvati Petrol Pump.

The salesman at the Petrol Pump follow this practice : Let say the man before you has filled up petrol worth 20 Rs . Then when you come to fill the petrol , he will ask you how much petrol you want . You would say 100 Rs. Then the guy who is collecting money will take the money from you and will try to divert your attention by asking you whether you want oil with petrol or whether you want speed or whether you have 100 Rs change etc.Till that time the other guy will start filling the petrol without resetting the machine to zero.

Many times the machine will be set to zero but while filling the petrol they will divert your attention and fill the petrol only for 80 Rs if you asked for 100 Rs. This is mostly happening when ladies are filling up petrol there. They wont be showing you the meter which counts the petrol filled in , rather they will show you the meter where they entered how much petrol was to be filled.

Me and my friends have noticed this several times.I thought it would be nice to share this with you.I have sent a mail to Indian Oil officers but I think they dont pay attention.I would request the people not to fill petrol in such pumps and also ask other people not to do so.

Thanks,
KSL

This seems to be a common practice across all the Indian Oil Petrol bunks. I live in Bangalore and have faced similar issues at the 2 Indian Oil petrol pumps near where I stay, i.e, the one at B.E.L Circle near Jalahally and also the one on new B.E.L road. I am not sure how to bring this to the attention of the Indian Oil authorities.

Please let me know, if there is any board or place where an official complaint has been filed against any such malpractice. I was also a victim of such malpractice, where by without notifying actual zero's they have started the meter for quantification and given me less disel. The outlet is in Sambhalka (Before Panipat) on GT Road.

Same thing happened with me on NH-24, Mayur Vihar Vihar Phase-II, Indianoil Petrol pump. I asked for oil for Rs. 400/-. At first instance he filled for Rs. 100 and stopped. Then diverting my attention he filled without setting to zero for Rs. 300/- I was cheated by Rs. 100/-. I believe they are cheating hundreds of customers with this modus operandi. Let us do something to highlight this issue to the higher ups in Oil ministry.

I stay in Marathalli, bangalore. I have also faced a similar issue with Indian Oil Corporation petrol pump. One day while I was going to Hebbal in bike, I stopped at a IOC petrol pump before hebbal (not sure what the exact location is). I asked the person to fill up petrol for 200. Initially, he filled up petrol for only Rs. 50/- and stopped filling. The meter showed 50 and I told him that I wanted to fill for Rs. 200. Another guy, who was standing next to him, tried to divert my attention by asking whether you are going to pay by card or in cash. During this time, the guy filled up till the meter showed Rs. 150. I was sure that he did not reset as it I know very well the time it takes to fill up petrol for Rs. 200 as I am used to it. But I did not want to raise an alarm as I was going very urgently and was quite not sure about it. Whom should we contact to report such kind of issues?

These people are criminals ... Had many bad experience and worst was the one which happened on 4-Nov in Marathahalli Indian Oil Petrol pump. This this third experience. This time they tried to cheat Rs 200, and I caught them red handed. I told the so called manger that this is 3rd time I'm experiencing this issue. It was surprise to know that the this was done with the knowledge of manager also. Rather than taking action against the person, he tried to divert the subject and started telling about why I'm shouting. Since I caught them red handed, I did not lose Rs 200

We need to see appropriate action against them by IOC by terminating the license.

At this pump ( Marathahalli Indian Oil pump, which is the second petrol pump from Marathahalli Bridge towards old Airport, the fist one before HAL museum), hundreds of people are getting cheated by workers and owners on daily basis. They are very cultureless and I already sent a message to IOC. If some one know a proper channel for complaining this, please let me know.

I had a similar experience in the only petrol pump at Richards town on the road towards Lingarajpura. We need to take some action against these elements. I realised it that very moment but was not in a condition to shout and the surprising element is that they do it very cleanly. I would not be surprised if their managers are also involved in the malpractice.

I had the same experiences as you, but the reason for the local and federal police officer and the possibility of big losses in the countries income and the people would be out of jobs, begging while in the unemployment line
thats what I guess

Dear Sir,

I am writing this mail with respect to a malpractice which I have observed at Indian Oil Petrol Pump outlet in Meerut. This is specifically related to a Petrol Pump situated at Roorkee Road (Near Kuber School), also known as Sargodha Auto Fuel.

At this petrol pump there are 2 nos. of dispenser of filling petrol. 1 No. dispensor are in regulor use but at the 2nd dispensor we observed several times that they empty the pipe line & when any four wheeler comes they use to fill petrol from that dispensor. After filling of petrol same malpractise is going on regularly.

After many complaints the company is not taking any action. I thick some of company officials are also invoved in this scam.

Regards,

Vikas

I fill petrol regularly at the Indian Oil petrol bunk at Bull temple road, Basavangudi, this week when I went again to fill up full tank, I returned with one-third tank empty (realised it when I saw next day).

This is what they do (everywhere) - talk to the customer diverting their attention from looking at the meter and in the meanwhile race the meter to closing amount (don't know how, but almost all petrol bunks follow this trick).

Consumer has no way to prove them wrong at that moment, we don't even take bills as proof. I am 100% sure now that there are techniques to make the meter race to the end point without dispensing petrol. We need to bust them somehow and make it public.

Meanwhile, wrote to Indian Oil Corp, Bangalore; Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Corp (supposed to be their duty to inspect petrol bunks), Lokayukta and various public forums. Would like to know if anybody has filed a PIL on this matter.

Here's what one can do:

1. Don't take your eyes off the meter.
2. Ensure the meter is displaying zero before it starts, and diplays both the amount of money and petrol filled at the end of it, catch them red-handed if the liters are not displayed. Take a bill.
3. If you see that your tank is not filled up according to your estimation or usual level for that amount, raise an alarm with the attendants, if they feign ignorance, pick up the Company Sales Manager's number displayed at every bunk and call up to lodge a complaint about this.
4. You could also give a written complaint to the Company Sales Manager or State head and to Karanataka Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd., also write the complaint in the complaint book at the bunk maintained by the bunk.
5. You may also alert other consumers in the neighbourhood and online. Try to fill for x litres instead for x amount.

Dear Sir,
This is regarding the Petrol Pump at Kangra(H.P.).Regarding their services I wish to submit the following.
1. Most of the times their air -filling machine is non-working & whenever one parks his/her vehicle there for air none of their attendents bother to attend/tell about the malfunctioning of the machines .It is only after when after waiting for sometime, one gets down from the vehicle & goes to the (normally gossiping) attendants, that the consumer is informed about the malfunctioning air machine.
2. Quite sometimes i.e. after every 10-12 days the normal petrol filling pump gets out of order. The most surprising fact is that premium petrol filling pump is never out-of-order.Moreover whenever there is notified power cut or power failure for longer duration the normal petrol filling pump gets out of order.
3. The attendants are normally found gossipping beacause local people donot wish to visit this petrol pump due to the "allegedly" poor quality (adulterated) fuel.
It is hereby requested that u kindly look into above facts so that we get the proper service & u get the proper revenue from the above mentioned fuel sation.

I agree to the fact that these tricks are going on in almost every petrol station. But corruption is so rampant in India, I think we can hardly stop this practice...there's no way to prove they are wrong. I just hope these complaints fall on some true and faithful ear amongst the Indian oil officers and they bring about some change. My experience is related to Karve road Deccan petrol pump of Indian oil, and is no differnet from the above mentioned ones. I think there's no need to reiterate it.

It's a regular affair at the Jasola petrol pump in Noida, near Appolo hospital, to ask the consumer to start the car wiper and meanwhile, the stop the fuelling and say that the light has gone. They again start it then. This is the third time that it has happened with me, the pump manager also declined to give me the complaint book. Strict action should be taken against such malpractices.

Hi,

I got cheated at one Indian Oil Petrol Pump. Its name is "Kapoor Auto Service Station Patparganj Society Area, I.P. Extension, Delhi-92". They have a modus operandy for cheating people.

On 17th Jan 2009 at around 7:30 am. At this petrol pump where I got cheated I asked the attendant to fill Rs. 500/- Diesel in my Indigo. The attendant asked me to check zero mark. As I was a little off from the meter I got down from car and stood near the meter. Everything was going fine as I was monitoring the meter but suddenly when the meter was reading around 300 another attendant appeared from another direction and asked me to pay money and sign on the bill which I never asked. Within a fraction of a second as my attention was diverted the attendant who was filling diesel abruptly pressed some key on the meter and diesel stopped. On hearing the diesel stop sound I immediately turned towards the meter and it showed zero for some seconds and then 500. I got cheated. The attendant had reset the meter. At the rate at which the diesel was being filled into the tank I think I lost Rs. 150 or more. Petrol pump name is
"Kapoor Auto Service Station Patparganj Society Area, I.P. Extension, Delhi-92".

Never ever remove your attention from the meter till you see the full reading. Petrol pump attendants funda "Divert the attention (specially when you are alone) and cheat easily".

Certainly authorities must take action against these fraud petrol pumps.

This happened in PetrolPump next to Madiwala policastation
I asked petrol boys to fill for Rs. 500
They resetted meter to 000 and started filling..
meter reached 250 .suddenly power went off
they called another guy to switch on powerbackup system.
I remember the meter showing 000 again

Then they again started filling the remaining 250
so as per meter 250+250 --500
But actually they filled only for Rs.250 into my fueltank .
I don't understand what happened .Some trick they played .
My fuel meter was showing only half level than usual levels.

I am writing this mail with respect to a malpractice which I have observed at Indian Oil Petrol Pump outlet in Bangalore. This is specifically related to a Petrol Pump situated at Bhommanahalli (Indian Oil, On the left side from Electronic city to Madiwala) also known as Ganesh Fuel.

The salesman at the Petrol Pump follow this practice : Let say the man before you has filled up petrol worth 20 Rs . Then when you come to fill the petrol, he will ask you how much petrol you want . I have caught them several times but most of the time Manager is not available in the bunk. I went many times to meet and speak to the manager but I couldn’t.

I hope you will take up the matter and duly punish the people involved at the petrol station.
