I thought I did all the right research in looking for a reputable breeder. One can never tell from just a website so I went to see her in person. The owner comes across very pleasent and answered all my questions. I was told the dogs were health tested, yet I was never shown any copies of documentation. Now I know I should have asked!
We picked up our puppy at 7 weeks of age and took him home. We were told that the puppy might have some diarrhea due to stress which all made sense to me so I didnt panic when that night the puppy had liquid poo's. We took him into our vet the next day and told them about the stool issue. Our vet immediately ran a stool sample and it came back positive for coccidia. I emailed the breeder as the contract stated you are recieving a happy, healthy puppy and it was apparent I was not. I realize that coccidia is easily treatable but I wanted to make the breeder aware that the rest of the litter will most likely be affected. My email was never returned.
Our puppy was treated and recovered beautifully. At a year of age we had our dog neutered as per our contract. I emailed a copy of the neuter certificate and even mailed a hardcopy to her home. After 2 months I had not heard from Landos so I sent a 2nd and 3rd email asking when to expect my CKC papers. I also tried to follow up with multiple phone calls, no one ever picked up the phone or returned my messages. I ended up calling the CKC 6 mths later and had to get them involved. FINALLY I got my papers. Now fast forward 2 years later. We started noticing that our 2.5 yr old dog was very stiff when he woke up and he was having issues with stairs and such. At first we thought he pulled a muscle so the vet put him on some pain meds and anti-inflammatories. He just wasnt getting any better and it seemed to be both of his legs. We ended up having x-rays done and sent off to the USA to be read. It came back as being hip dysplasia. Again we tried to contact the breeder as we had a 3 yr health guarantee on our dog for hips and heart. They never returnd any of the multiple emails or countless phone calls. BIG SURPRISE! We opted for surgery and had both hips repaired, thank god we had pet insurance. Our dog is now almost 4 and we just got more horrible news, as if what we have gone through wasn't enough. Last week our dog was playing in the backyard with his ball and just fell over. Tests have revealed he has Cardiomyopathy. There is no point in contacting his breeder again, his health guarantee is over with and she never responded to his hip issues. All I can do is warn as many people as possible about this breeder. Since dealing with Landos I have met several people with their own personal horror story. Hip and heart issues seem to be a common thing. They claim they guarantee hips and heart but good luck getting a hold of them.

I saw that she was on that show and was absolutely amazed and disgusted! It wasnt even filmed at her house! BaldWookie, please tell your story. This is the only way others will know. I never want anyone to go through what we are going through. It does not surprise me that 2 other people have already commented on this complaint. I just wonder how many more victims are out there?

When looking to purchase a Boxer puppy, please do your research. Look for a reputable breeder and ask questions.

I have read some of the more recent posts and my heart goes out to all those who have lost their puppy. I posted on here over a year ago about my 2.5 year old boxer puppy “Byron” from Landos that died of heart failure. I had an awful experience and can’t believe how common this still seems to be with Landos. We ended up getting a new puppy from Tanoak Boxers in Barrie a year ago and she is doing great. Our CKC paperwork arrived soon after we brought her home, and Helga (breeder) even kept in touch to see how things were going. Please everyone do your research, there are lots of good breeders out there.

I just wanted to chime in with my experience with Linda and Lando's boxers.

My husband and I purchased our male from Landos in fall 2007. He has grown to be a healthy and happy 8 year old boy. Any health issues that we have come across with him have been minor and are common to the breed. When we went to pick out our boy from his litter and later returned to bring him home, her home and kennels were clean and happy environment for her dogs.

I am very sorry to hear that many of you have had health issues with your dogs. My husband and I love boxers, yet we know that the breed unfortunately comes with a number of potential health issues. I have contacted Linda years after picking up our pup with questions and she has always made time to respond to me. We are currently in the motions of bringing home a second pup from Linda.

I understand how devastating it is to lose your family pet. A couple months ago we had to put down our female boxer (from other breeder) due to liver cancer. It's incredibly hard. However, to blame a breeder for cancer in your animal (especially when cancer/tumors are common in the breed) is ridiculous.

As far as the papers go...I can not speak to that. We opted not to have the papers provided to us. It wasn't of concern to us to have his papers. We is a family pet, we had no intention to show or breed him.

Also, I just want to add that I have contacted CKC myself to inquire if Landos is registered with them. Please see the response I got below:

"A breeder does not have to be a CKC member to register dogs, but we are pleased to inform you that the breeder you have requested membership status on LANDOS BOXERS is currently a member in good standing for 16 years with our organization."

The emailed is dated April 10, 2015

My family bought a beautiful, playful, loving puppy from Landos Boxers in January of 2006.. We were told he was health tested for everything. Guaranteed for three years. I was requested by Linda at the time to consider breeding with him. I would receive a puppy or the cost of a puppy ( I paid $1200). I told her I would think about it. Two and a half years went by and he was getting stiff in the hind end. We had him xrayed and one hip was a little off. He was not considered 'certified' for breeding. But we were not going to take back a dog that was part of our family. Then Linda called about breeding with a fostered girl. We agreed and we fell in love with the loving little girl, (she was 2.5yrs old) and became friends with the 'owners'. The first litter produced 5 girls and we were not prepared to have a second dog at that time. I asked about the money and again, like others here, no answers. The poor girl had a nervous breakdown after her puppies left. The 'owners' were besides themselves and requested that they not have to breed her again but the very next heat Linda wanted another breeding with our dog. The other puppies went like wild fire apparently. We talked it over and decided to do it. There were 3 girls and 3 boys. Still no money, finally after emails and calls we went to CKC and they called her. I got $600 from her for 2 breedings, not $2400 as promised BUT what disgusted me the most was the 72 puppies, YES 72 PUPPIES on the ground at the same time! 33 at her house alone! You can't tell me that is not puppy mill material! The sad part was the poor girl again had a breakdown and Linda refused to have her fixed. The contact states 2-3 breedings and she was getting her third breeding from this poor dog! The people who loving raised her had no other choice but to give her back as they could not watch the heartache again. They had a vet, dog counsellor, even their lawyer write to her but she came to their house and took her. Once Linda has her back she contacted me to breed again and I refused! I still wonder where that poor girl ended up going. As for our boy, he had a heart murmur, the left hip was never right, and he past away just before his 9th birthday this past November of a cancerous tumor on his spleen. I never did get the CKC papers everyone talks about because I refused to get him fixed after the fiasco. He was the love of my life I wouldn't change a thing about him. I do know a couple of his offsprings' owners. Their pups appear healthy so far. But would I buy another dog from Linda at Landos Boxers, the answer is NO WAY! Find a reputable breeder, this one is not in my opinion. PS would love to hear from anyone with a Maketa and Bosco pup.

She does not vet-check her puppies but offers "ten year guarantees" as for obtaining CKC Papers. I bought my dog in 2013. It's now 2016...so good luck.

My family also just put down our 6 year old boxer purchased from Landos. Just as many others have described, he just dropped while standing in our front hallway one night. We rushed him to the emergency vet and they told us he had Cardiomyopathy. We kept him going on a number of medications which seemed to help and allowed him to live another 7 months without issue, but in the last few weeks we noticed a quick decline. He was huffing and puffing after only walking up one flight of stairs. This morning he collapsed again twice in a row. With broken hearts we opted to put him down as we saw the decline and didn't want to put him in a situation where he was home alone when he had another episode. He was an absolutely wonderful dog and will be missed.

I bought a puppy in 2011. She was sick her whole life. It started with boxer colitis, Then when I had her fixed I requested an xray of her hips and one was displaced. Some times after 2 years of age she developed arthritis in her back and started moving like an old dog. Around 3 she developed terrible allergies. Finally she had to be put down at 7.5 years with a brain tumour.
