In late 2008 I bought a brand new Legacy Heritage mobile home to replace one lost to hurricane Ike. I soon discovered structural problems. It began with humps in the floors and bad floor seams and has since progressed to bowed walls and cracked siding. Now I have black mold growing in the walls where the siding cracks have allowed rain water to enter. After several futile attempts to have Legacy address these problems whole they were still relatively small, I filed a complaint with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA). Following an inspection which Legacy chose not to attend, TDHCA issued Legacy Housing LTD. of Fort Worth Texas orders to repair my home. After Legacy failed to do so by the extended deadline issued by TDHCA, the case was turned over to TDHCA's enforcement division who issued another deadline. This time Legacy sent Gary Hiar (an unlicensed contractor) who installed perimeter blocking that my home was not designed for. According to TDHCA, this caused the siding cracks I contend led to the mold. I believe the mold is what makes my daughter and two year old grandson sick if they spend any time in their rooms. Now my daughter sleeps in the den and my grandson sleeps with my wife and me. After one of his visits Mr. Hiar submitted a falsified work order which Legacy passed on to TDHCA and proclaimed the issues resolved.TDHCA has inspected my home three times and has found Legacy responsible each time. TDHCA has even levied a fine against Legacy for failure to comply with TDHCA orders. Legacy has claimed (on various occasions) that my problems did not exist, that they were only cosmetic, that they were not responsible, and that they were fixed. During the most recent "repair visit", on May 15, 2010. a crew from the factory, led by Legacy's production supervisor (Jerry Hill) came with a work order instructing them to make repairs to some of the problem areas (not all of them) and to prove to me that some other problems were in my imagination. That apparent arrogance was proven wrong and Mr. Hill's crew repaired a bad seam in my living room floor. They also pulled down some floor joists. That made the floors flat in two of the problem areas. The problem with those repairs is not only that they lasted less than a week, but that the crew did a very sloppy job of closing up the repair site. They did not put back the insulation, or even tape the opening closed. All this leads me to a couple of conclusions. I now no longer believe that Legacy ever had any intention of doing the right thing and I no longer believe that TDHCA can or will enforce its rulings. I will never buy anything else from Legacy and would urge anyone else considering such a purchase to remember what has happened to me. I do not think I'm the only one Legacy will treat this way.
I purchased a 2009 home from legacy and that was in may 8th 2009, This is july 26th 2010 and my home has not been fixed yet. I've dealt with Jerry and he is an ###, along with Walter and several Mexicans. They do nothing but make bad matters worse. The State is involved in my case too. How can we start a class action lawsuit against Legacy. Mr. Reed from the State sais he just did another inspection on a Legacy home today. Can't we do something about this. All my problems were claimed to be comestic also and now the front door and back door and bathroom window is leaking. I'm so sick of all this. Martha Hartfield
Legacy is a rip-off. The house they sold me is so poorly built that it's a joke. I paid extra money to get their highest levels of insulation (R33 in ceiling, R22 in floors, and R11 in walls). What I got was a fraction of that. That is actually their biggest secret. There is not even enough room in the ceiling to put in enough insulation to get it anywhere close to R33. Also, the house came with a cheap, plastic door that could be pushed open by anyone. I did not get the carpet pad that I paid extra for, and none of the windows opened more than a couple of inches. To top if all off, the jerk who sold it to me charged me for a refrigerator and a stove, and then he stole the appliances from the house before it was delivered to me. In other words, the Production Order which I signed had no appliances on it (as I had requested), but the Production Order that he sent to the factor had the appliances on them, so they installed them. I found this out after I moved in and discovered the warranty cards in a kitchen drawer which the jerk had forgotten to pick up. There were so many problems with the house, it was ridiculous. Even now, over a year later, I am still having to see them out here. They are liars. They are thieves. Their idea of "fixing" something is to send some idiot Mexican handyman who knows nothing and leaves his trash all over your yard. Please contact me at: [removed]. I am putting together a list of people who have complaints about Legacy, so we can all work together to get these problems resolved properly, or else put them out of business.
We also have the same problems. Doors don't open or close correctly. Electrical problems, there is no electric plug for washer. One bathroom electric outlet works when it wants to.
The kitchen floor has a paper cover not wood. Windows are not right. This is a cheap built home and legacy mobile homes ripped us of. We couldn't get them to fix repairs. It took them 5 months to deliver air conditioning unit. Then 7 months to deliver skirting ( real cheap) plus problems with hook ups. It has been a year now and the nightmare continues.
I need to know how to contact the owners of Legacy ... not the cheesy salesmen that promise the bs ...the two men Ken Shipley, and Curtis Hodgson that started Legacy Homes ... it is their name that these jerks are running into the ground. WTH are they! I would like to speak with them! I have been out of my previous home ... it wasn't pretty but it was mine ... that they took on January the 8th, and I have been homeless every since. I am beyond furious ... WHERE THE H are Ken & Curtis?
I have been lied to every step of this process. I cannot believe I am sitting here typing on this page ... I am seeking an attorney next week ...I will list everything later ... I had trees that were supposed to be cut down, culverts that were supposed to be put in, I wound up having to pay out of pocket for ... I have been essentially homeless for 5 months, and these people have been excruciating to work with. I am sick to death to think that the repurcussions of this will be long lasting!
If you are looking for a reputable company that will do what they say they will do for you then look somewhere else. I bought and paid cash for a 2015 Legacy doublewide. It was to be delivered ASAP by the paperwork. I was told it would be delivered in 2 days. 2 weeks later I had to call an threaten a fraud suit to get them to deliver it. Then it took another month to get anyone one out here to set it up. I told them BEFORE they left that the doors did not shut properly and I was told they would be back to re-level it. Instead someone adjusted the screws on the door hinges to make them fit. So now I am happy...not...the doors of my kitchen cabinets started falling off the wall. I have a large walk in pantry that has a full length door that fell completely off the hinges. I have made several requests from the Company from the sales man Don to the PRESIDENT of the Company Brent to Charles at the manufacture in Fort Worth, Texas. I get the run around. I have a $75, 000. POS that is not worth scraping. Oh did I mention that the counter top fell off the sink base, the refrigerator is not working correctly, the trim in all of the rooms has fallen off, there are holes in the ceiling that were patched but not very well, the floor creeks when you walk on it, the carpet is bunched up and has wads of padding that was not put in correctly. Did I mention that my POS was delivered on April 15, 2015. I have been in contact with someone with Legacy, Wisdom or the BBB almost every week since. Trying to get something fixed. I have been getting your in line to be repaired since June 9, 2015 it is now August 21, 2015. This should tell you that if it takes this long to get anyone to even come look that they have to many problems to fix. So do your homework and go somewhere else to buy your dream home. This is not the company.
Hello,I am happy to come across your story and page. If you don't mind me asking what was the outcome? I am in the same boat with my ONLY 5 month old legacy and it is completely totaled from defects and I get the regular run around as everyone else. I do have a lawyer and plan on filing suit, but was just curious of your story. Thanks.
I've been trying to get someone out to fix our leaking windows since April of 2014 before we moved in and all I get from Kyle Morris and the others there is the run around. We (my husband and I) thought we fixed the problem with caulking but they still leak, so we've concluded that it's coming from the roof.
We have other things wrong that need fixing but they just ignore you as well as the dealer that sold us it, El Reno Home Center. That place switched out our appliances we paid extra for and resold our old moldy home to someone, when we paid for it to go to the dump.
Do not buy from this dealer or manufacturer because you will regret it.
We have filed suit and looking for people to testify on your poor quality Legacy home. email rainiedayz@ymail.com
How can this become a class act lawsuit?
My Legacy home is terrible and it’s only three years old all the windows leak they won’t do any work past the first year that you own it and when they do replace something it’s worse than it was when you started
I’m having the same issues the home is defective . No one will fix the problems
davescarpets@outlook.com please send info. Thanks David Mobley
Mine is horrible also. First of all they delivered the wrong home to me and when they moved it in the tires on the axles were blown. The transport person said it would be fine that nothing is messed up, the whole back corner of my home where the tires were has separated. The windows leaked from day one. The drawers do not slide in properly. It has split mini haier ac's that have both lost the freon 4 times, so I finally stopped using them and got window units. The whole bathroom floor is falling through and the drain on my bath tub is not connected. My home was purchased in 2018. I would never recommend them or purchase another home from them. They have the most HATEFUL ppl that work in the customer service office that i have ever spoken with.
Wow I thought my legacy home was built terrible; have you been able to do anything to reach recompense? half of my windows leak And some already need replacing the house is only three years old.
The windows heat up so much during the day in the master bedroom they melted the original blinds and I can’t stand the smell of the plastic in there when the house heats up. I’m having Anderson windows installed in the bedrooms soon but it will cost a fortune.
I’m having the same issues . No one will fix any thing this was a replacement home for hurricane Irma and the home they gave me is in worse condition than the home that was damaged by the hurricane!
I am fighting with them as well my whole home is considered totaled at this point and I was curious if you ever got any thing done with yours.
Hi! Are you in Florida? I received a Legacy Mobile Home after Hurricane Michael and have had similar issues. I involved the State and, at this point, Legacy has refused to make repairs to defects.
Same deal with me in Lakeland. I didn't even sign off on a Legacy. Timberline switched on me at last minute. After waiting forever, with horrible communication. Basically everything had to b switched out. From toilets to roof trusses, windows. On and on. Still nothing square or level in house. Including cabinets. Horrible workmanship
