I was contacted by a recruiter regarding a position that aligned with my skillset. After a few pleasantry emails and submitting my resume, I was formed than it was not ATS optimized. Therefore she recommended me to use a person that she said was an expert in that field and would deliver strong results. After email that 'expert' I was given a price range for his services of which are truly very expensive. I asked for a sample resume from that expert and never heard back from him. Mind you the emails between myself and the recruiter and the 'expert' were quite quickly responded to. Except for when I asked of the sample resume.
I decided to go a different route and paid for a professional service to optimize my resume for the specific government agency. That is their specialty. I sent the newly formatted resume to the recruiter not mentioning what agency did the formatting, within 2 minutes I received an email stating that it was still not ATS formatted and that she recommended (again) to use the expert. This sounds like a scam to me.
