Buyer beware! Stay away from maks unless you want to lose 700 thb for some bogus cleaning fee for a little bit of dust on the dash! Really!
I have rented 3 times from them in the last year. First two times for a month each 15k thb then recently a week (7000 thb) and paid for delivery at the airport. And I arrive early with a full tank of gas with the car in perfect condition.. And he tells me there is a problem with the car and I need to go get it cleaned. Granted, both times I dropped off the monthly rentals I paid 200 thb for car care and the guy at maks told me it was "unnecessary" and no one ever does that... So this time I didn't, since I only had it for a week and was paying 1000+ thb per day plus 1600 delivery. And he told me I either give him 700thb or go get it cleaned. I took photos to prove it was clean. I explained I have only every used maks in pattaya to rent a car and was planning on picking up a car for a month in a couple week and if he really wanted to lose a longtime customer over 700thb.. He said.. "I could care less."
Is this a joke? I thought he was joking. He wiped his hand along the passenger side dash and said this is too dirty!
Never again maks!
Please.. Unless you want to be gypped big time for a bogus car cleaning fee at the end of your rental seven hundred baht.. Stick with any of the other car rental places in thailand!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer's satisfaction.
I agree... I rented a car for 7 days, and unfortunately just over 150 kms out of Pattaya a large lorry sent a stone onto the windshield and a small crack appeared.
I contacted MAKS and they asked me to send photos. I did and then was sent a message that it was going to cost me 5000 baht as if it was my fault! I will never use them again and would recommend to use a company who insure you correctly and no offer to replace windowscreen until I returned the car which made the car dangerous to drive as the crack got longer each day would attach the text which i received but no facility to do it! And they just pay people 5% discount on rental for writing FAKE reviews on Facebook!
Hello Graham,
If stone makes crack on windowscreen there is no insurance coverage (standart CDW+LDW insurance for rental proposes in Thailand).
All rental company in Thailand (AVIS, HERTZ, Budget and etc.) use same type of insurance.
To be in a safe side customer can buy extra SCDW insurance, that covers such cases.
This is described in FAQ question #12 (http://thai-rent-car.com/faq/)
We give 5% discount code for customers, who rented our cars, but we do not ask them to make 5 star.
We ask them to share experience to work with us to make our service better.
I'm glad I found this! I had the same situation with MAKS Car Rent in Pattaya! I can't believe you were charged 700 Baht! I was only charged 300 Baht and I thought that was crazy! I cannot recommend this company at all! I rent a car for 2 weeks and there was rainy weather. Is it not normal that there can be sand on the mats? This company is here to rip you off only! I have never been charged a cleaning fee for anything like this with any car rental company in the world! And when you look at all the positive reviews, they look fake!
Mr. Hans,
You were charged 300 baht not only for the foot mats with clay(!), but also for the dirty car.
Usually we do not require clean car. But If car is so dirty that we can not do visual inspection of the car, we require a car wash. In your case it was difficult (see picture: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1y9V3YzptKp7wACnMo2CQn75WRZrjbSTN/view?usp=sharing).
Besides, we offered you to go to a car wash by yourself, but you refused our suggestion.
That’s why you were charged 300 baht (~ 9USD) in office.
In addition, the car was equipped with rubber mats, in case of rain and dirt, but the customer did not use them, put them in the trunk.
Stay away from this company if you don't want to be cheated. This is a lying company that cheats people and then claims people aren't renters and offers a discount for good reviews... I have always rented cars from maks car when in pattaya..(admin) so don't tell people that I am not in ur database.. u r thugs.u cheat people of there deposit because there was water fallen from half of a half liter bottle and u wanted to dry it for 3days..and how can u ask me more than 5k bhat when I am liable only for 5k..stop being thieves in such a touristic place..and people who rent from maks take 4 to 5 people to get ur deposit back because there r people waiting for u to cheat..
Dear Lakshmikanth
Oh, nice to hear from you.
Last time you rented from us Toyota Yaris Ativ for 12 days ( 03.10.18 – 15.10.18). Unfortunately, the car that you returned was flooded. The interior carpet floor was wet and smelly! The car required extra dry cleaning and could not be given to another client in such awful condition.
Your deposit 5000 baht was kept to cover the expenses to bring the car in the order.
Besides, on the 03.10.18 you received the car with the full tank of patrol but on 15.10.18 returned it with only 30% and ran away without paying.
For you to know, 5000 deposit covered our expenses for car dry cleaning after YOU, but did not cover expenses for 70% of patrol.
For now, your debt for unpaid but used patrol is 1400 thb!
Looking forward for your payment.
About a year ago I rented from Maks Pattaya Car Rental service and had 5000 baht STOLEN FROM ME! They claimed there was a scratch that WAS THERE WHEN I RENTED! I wish I saw all the negative reviews back then! Run as far away from this cheeky company as you can. They are frauds!
Hello Felix,
To all our customers we recommend to make video or photo registration of rented cars to avoid such complains.
We are saving all history of cars/contracts to easy determine new scratches. Manager can show previous contracts.
