When there is a lapse in insurance coverage, the DMV will charge you a fine of $50 per vehicle, even when the vehicles are all on the same policy. If that fine is not paid in a certain number of days, the fine doubles. When there are multiple vehicles on one policy that adds up. If a person has a lapse, it is because they are having financial issues. Charging a fee is punishing them for their hardship. If they are having trouble paying insurance, then they are going to have trouble paying fees. To get a hearing regarding the situation, you have to pay $60. They are just taking the consumers money.

Desired outcome: Would like the DMV to stop charging fees for lapses and hearings. The insurance company requires a lapse fee but they charge one fee per policy not per vehicle.
