My partner and I stayed in a bungalow No 50 at St Margarets Bay, Deal, 29th April for 4 nights. First night found ants nest, texted reception, put orange peel down. Next day I was woken my a strange man in a leather jacket, bald head entering my bedroom, while I lay half dressed. He left, and I was shocked not knowing who he was and why he was there. I waited then went into the bedroom to check my laptop hadn't been stolen. I then picked up my phone to ring partner and police, and found text message from Linda at Parkdean reception, stating they'd send someone round. I texted back that an unknown man had just walked into my bedroom while I was in bed. She replied that he was there checking for ants. I said so people can come into the bungalow without permission. She apologised. I told my partner and he said he'd talk to the manager when he returned on the Wednesday. However, the manager who was Lisa was not there so he had to wait till Thursday, I had also reported the ants nest via the booking site, and email with footage. My partner spoke to Lisa but she was still defending the point as if the only reason it had been a problem was because I hadn't answered when he knocked, not that this man had a set of keys and had let himself in coming into my bedroom without any prior permission of the occupant. I also made it very clear that if we hadn't been there we would still have been angry as when we lock the door we expect it to stay that way. On returning I made a formal complaint, again the manager Lisa replied, justifying the entry under "need to carry out emergency maintenance." I replied that an ants nest would not been deemed as an emergency, water leek, fire yes, ants nest? No. I did point out that it was such an emergency they had done nothing about the ants nest for the rest of the week. Since this they have ignored me when I've requested escalating the complaint. So there was no honest apology regarding the fact that one of her male staff had entered without my permission and so seeing me half dressed and how vulnerable, and unsafe that made me feel. So no chance of preventing it either. I wrote a number of reviews on Trustpilot but she has requested their removal so clearly they do not want others to know. I find it deeply concerning that not only has this been allowed and falsely justified, but that as a result some other holiday maker could end up in exactly the same situation just for going about their private business in their holiday home.
