Life Policy
I'm currently paying R3700.00 at Discovery Life (policy [protected]) for a Life and dread disease policy. I obtained an equivalent policy quotation from BrightRock (actually better because it includes disability as well) This quote is for R2200.00 - that's R1500.00 LESS PER MONTH ! or 41% LESS ! I went straight to Discovery to give them the opportunity to respond and have been given the run around ever since. Weeks now! They don't come back to you, feed you incorrect information to try and keep you... Simple question, "How can BrightRock be so much cheaper"? I'm tired of waiting for a response again, I've sent them the BrightRock policy as requested, twice, emailed them again, spoken to them again, to no avail... They don't seem interested. Is this just another company ripping off the little guy? Joyce, who is my only contact isn't to blame, it's Discovery Life management, hiding behind her skirts so they don't have to, or because they don't know how to, respond! I have had this policy for over 10 years and feel really cheated.
Payment
i have sent in a request for withdrawal 2 weeks ago. then on the 19th of May i sent in the forms as they requested. Till today i have not received payment. Yesterday when i contacted discovery they advised that the tax directive will be in the afternoon and today when i call they say they have not even submitted it yet. So there is lies and deceit here. Im am so frustrated with the service. I got an email last week stating that payment will be done during the course of this week and today i get told it will be done on the 2nd of june. Discovery is full of lies. i would never deal with them again
Discovery Life has processed 2 debit orders against my bank account without authorization. I am now trying to get this reversed and with no commitment or feedback from Discovery. This is tantamount to fraud as I have not signed or authorized these transactions.
Debit orders after policy has been canceled
I cancelled my Health Plan Protector policy with Discover Life in Dec 09. The last payment should have been in Dec 09. Since then 3 payments have gone off as debit orders from my account. I phoned in to inquire why, have the payments reversed and ensure that it does not happen again. I was told that I have to fax bank statements, wait 48 hours for a migration to another system etc. The long and short was 'we have your money and if you don't jump through the hoops your not getting it back'. As I did not authorize the payments (since my policy was cancelled) I find it unacceptable. Discovery can check and verify that they took the money and then pay me back, IMMEDIATELY! I explained this to the credit controller who then very reluctantly agreed to investigate and contact me by 10am 4 March. This has not happened. So not only do you take money that is not yours, you want to make it the customers problem to do the leg work t get it back and then you also do not keep to your promises.

Well done, I've done the same, after finding I was double insured and needed to re-do my insurance.
Since Feb 2018 - till now, I'm still trying to resolve my query. It seems when Discovery owes money they ignore you, but financial advisers all call to re-instate policies and to sell you new products. Discovery are loosing clients due to poor service.
