used vehicle
I would definitely NOT recommend doing business with Legacy Auto Sales. I did a cash deal for a vehicle and discovered, after driving it for a few days, that it leaked gasoline. Legacy offered to do the repair on it but still decided to charge me for some of the work. “Leaking fuel, ” apparently, isn’t covered under their warranty. After they didn’t properly fix the problem the first time, I had to take the car back a second time so they could do more work and charge me more for repairs. After all was said and done, I was out $369 to fix the problem it shouldn’t have had in the first place and I didn’t have my car for a week and a half. Their communication was horrible during all of this process and, most importantly, it showed me they don’t have a good handle on the condition of their vehicles and don’t stand behind their products once sold. Also, the car I traded in was listed on their website soon after at 100, 000 miles less than it actually had on it.
Legacy Auto Sales, should be renamed Legacy Day Care
My girlfriend is leasing a 1999 Ford Mustang from Legacy Auto Sales. She has had the vehicle for roughly six weeks and has already had to have it serviced twice. The first time was for the check engine light that was linked back to a bad oxygen sensor. No biggie, John who apparently runs the place fixed it at no cost to her. Three weeks after that the check engine light came on again. Several calls were made to Legacy to get the vehicle in to them to again have it repaired. But no return calls were made to her by Legacy. With in a few days the car broke down completely. Legacy was again called and when contact was made they stated "they were too busy to get back to her". Real nice customer service there. Legacy was told that there was a busted hose, it sounded like there was a hole in the exhaust and then what ever was wrong that was causing it not to start. So the vehicle had to be towed to Legacy's shop for repairs. After the repairs were done (which was a hose replacement and a tune up) still nothing done to the exhaust. My girlfriend went to them to make her payment for the vehicle and was told that the vehicle was ready. But she couldnt have it until she paid 196 bucks for the repairs and tow bill. After just making the payment for the vehicle she didnt have enough left to pay the 196 bucks so she left without the car. I then went back to Legacy with her to see if there was some agreement that could be made to pay at a later date so she could have a car to get back and forth to work in. (NO CAR, NO WAY TO GET TO WORK... THEREFORE NO MONEY TO GIVE TO LEGACY...) I stated to this John guy that she has only had the car roughly six weeks, she shouldnt have problems out of it already. He immediately got defensive, stating that " its a used car... used cars have problems." Now I personally have had used vehicles in the past... I am driving one now in fact. And I have never had problems six weeks into owning any of my USED vehicles. So from there I informed him that I was aware that his company has had six complaints with the BBB. And holy hell the guy blew a gasket! He started throwing himself around and acting like a child who just had his blankie taken away. I mean really? A "professional businessman" acting like a child... So a request was then made to allow my girlfriend to get her belongings out of the vehicle. He storms out of the sales office, throwing his hands around and running his mouth. We get to the vehicle and my girlfriend starts to get her stuff out of the car. Which happens to be a few boxes of Girl Scout cookies. John then states "maybe you should eat some of those cookies, might make you happier." Really? Again a "professional businessman" making deroggatory comments about a person. To which I replied, "It's a shame she didnt realize what kind of businessman you were before she purchased a vehicle from you." That again ticked him off... I dont really know if it was the fact that a woman was standing up to him or the fact that I was throwing his poor business practices in his face... either way he was not a happy person.
This "man" really was a joke. I have never in my life dealt with someone who was so terribly bad at customer service. Terribly bad really is an understatement. This man should not be dealing with the general public for anything regarding to customer service. Really, he shouldnt be allowed to mingle around the general population. He seems like the type that can turn pyschotic at the drop of a hat.
Anyhow... point being, I have read similar stories about Legacy Auto and their poor business practices.. Dont buy/lease from them unless you really desire driving a piece of crap vehicle or being treated like crap... Either way you get crap from Legacy Auto Sales.

The only problem I've ever had with this place is they lied to me about fixing my car and lied about the in house warranty that I ever so smartly bought, or so I thought. I took my car in to have all the bushings replaced. After sitting in the waiting room in the back and listening to the vile conversations that was held up front and people screaming at the f*ing... Dogs up stairs. It was more than two hours and he said my car was fixed. I drove down the road and it was still doing the same thing... Problem not fixed. I went straight back and told the mechanic that the problem was still present. He then replied back with well of course it's going too. Me, standing with dumb look said, Umm, wasn't it fixed? His response, no it's going to continue to bounce hard to the side when you hit a bump because of your tires. Me, again with dumb look said, well I'm no mechanic but why the hell did I bring my car to get fixed if fixing what you fixed wasn't the problem in the first place? He told me to bring it back up another day and he would take another look. Considering the in house warranty I bought didn't cover tires. I took my car down to tire discounters who so nicely told me not a single bushing was replaced... Now my warranty that I bought was 50/50 and I paid 50% to have my bushings replaced. I paid 100 dollars and not a single one was replaced. I being a girl waited until my boyfriend was off work to handle this. He went to tire dis and they showed him. He then went back to legacy and they lied to him and said I was never there to have bushings replaced. Also we never bought a 50/50 warranty and they have no clue who I was. Seriously! I was up there not even 5 hours ago and they claim they've never seen me? Ok, well being the girl that I am I was bored waiting and took a picture of me sitting in the back waiting room on a nasty couch. He then showed them the picture and said she sent this to me today! Sitting on your couch. The lady then said oh yeah I remember her now ... Me standing right there as she said it! He demanded the money to be returned but she said the work was done and it wasn't. Needless to say we lost 100 dollars and will never do business with them again. Liars and crooks.
Sorry to hear sooo many complaints. I went online to look for a car from this place and submitted my application that night and that morning I was getting a call saying that they didn't have a 2012 but they have a 2008 equinox. I was surprised that with my credit that I was even approved. At the time there were ladies in the office and they had the best customer service I've ever seen. When I test drove, it was the smoothest ride ever. I fell in love. I still have my truck and never had to do any repairs besides the oil tune up brake etc. I thought I had a great experience. We can't win an all I guess and I really think I was blessed. They probably are scammers but they damn sure let a great one go. I ain't seen any more decent cars since. I've had this car for 3 yrs now and ran it like a rental. Be blessed.
When you buy a car off of craigslist from a private owner, if you have problems in 6 weeks after the fact do you contact them for repairs? No I don't think so. It makes me laugh how people think that when they buy a car the dealer is responsible for all repairs. When you buy a brand new car you get a warranty correct? Then why would you ever buy a used car without purchasing a extended warranty. If you are going through a lease to own program The company is taking a risk by loaning you there money and also having to fix every little problem. If things are put in writing then they should be fixed. If your doing bhph or lease to own then obviously you have not established credit or have bad credit. Get a co-signer and buy a new car or a late model used and purchase a warranty with a low interest rate. If not that's the price you have to pay unfortunately for having bad or no credit. Believe me if I'm taking the risk and loaning my money out. I would want as much of it back as possible. Buy a warranty and when issues arise they can be handled by any dealer at anytime.
Legacy Auto Sales advertised a 2003 Ford Explore on Craigslist for 3, 995 on 7/31/14 we was interested in this so we called on 8/1/14 and was told that they did have it and the price was 3, 995 we went that evening to look at it/buy it after we drove a hour to get there and when we got there we told him it was on Craigslist for 3, 995 we offered them 3, 500 cash the gentlemen said he had to ask his boss when he returned he said his boss said he could only take 4, 500 for it we told him that it was on Craigslist for 3, 995 and the gentlemen said he could only take 4, 500 so once we got there they jumped the price up 1, 000 dollars this place needs to be shut down for trying to scam people/false advertisement. To say the least we did not buy the 2003 ford explore.
It's called predatory lending, and it's illegal. Having worked for this company, I know first hand what greedy cheats these people are! I personally heard the co-owner, John McGrath, state that he could afford to pay more for a junker than what it was worth, because he'd sell it and get it back in 6 months, have it already paid off, and be able to sell it again and again, for 100% profit!
Everyone who has done business with them needs to contact the Ohio Attorney General's office and file a formal complaint. You can get back what these thieves stole from you, because they used a practice that is recognized as a crime in Ohio! Unfortunately these complaint boards can't stop them, but that one phone call can!
I agree 100%. The " LTO " program is designed to rip the customer off but you tell them the total opposit obviously. You can trade up you can trade down, you will never be sued for the balance you owe, we will work with you better then anyone else.. lol all bull crap! The vehicle that cost 1800 dollars somehow gets marked up to 13, o00 on the contract that you sign? and then you are told.. oh thats nothing that number means nothing at all... well, wrong! that number means everything.. you will never own that car! if you do.. u have paid WAY TO MUCH FOR IT .. but they mark it up so high knowing customers will eventually catch on and just quit paying that way they get the car back and they can put it out agian on the same program.. off 1 car they can put it out as many times as they can get it back in.. its a scam. It should be called rent-a-car that you will never own because that is exactly what it is. Not to mention they knowingly sell the car with repairs needing to be done but once you sign and it rolls off the lot its your car and your problem. Make sure your smart... be very specific on the " we owe " statement or you will be in big trouble with repairs. They have junk cars up there that are beat up and put back out to be beat up agian.. and this is what you are paying 13, 000 for? be careful. Bad business and bad people. I LEARNED THE HARD WAY
No title for automobile
I purchased a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu on August 25, 2008 from Legacy Auto Sales. I was issued a 30 day temporay tag from the State of Ohio. In the State of Ohio, the state holds the original title until the vehicle is paid in full, however I live in Kentucky. In Kentucky, the person who the vehicle is registered to holds the original title regardless if there is a lein on it or not. When my 30 day Ohio Temp Tag expired, I had still not received the Title Certificate from the dealer so that I could get my Kentucky plates. I called the dealer the day before the tag expired and they said that they had not received it from the State of Ohio and would call me when it came in, said they were running about 45 days. I went to the Kenton County, Kentucky court house and paid $2.00 to get a 30 day temp tag from them. No problem! Well, that tag expired today, October 23, 2008 and still no title certificate from the dealer! I went again to Kentucky, who says you can only be issued one (1) 30 day temp tag! I was able to get a 7 day temp tag from them for the same price, $2.00! I called the dealer at 11:03am today and they said that they don't have it would call me back. As of 3:30pm, they had not called! I called them back, they put me on hold for about 15 minutes and finally said that the State of Ohio had forwarded it to the finance company! Said that they are mailing it to me today! We shall see!
