Poor or nonexistent service for a steep fee already paid.
I am paying $65.00 a month for internet service that is unavailable more than it is available. I pay on the front end, so this company is receiving payment for poor or non-existent service. This is the biggest fraud I have ever been associated with. From what I hear from other soldiers, this is the norm rather than the exception.

Rip off
I am a soldier in the U.S. Army, currently deployed to Iraq. The telecommunications company, Magic Island Technologies, that monopolizes our internet options here provides the worst service and price out of any ISP I have ever come across. Charging $65 for thirty days, or a meager 5 gigabytes of bandwidth, whichever comes first, their service is barely faster than dial-up most times of the day, making it increasingly difficult to reach loved ones back home.
To give a disclaimer on my report, I do realize that in past years of the war that internet connectivity was extremely limited or nonexistent. I also realize that the issues with speed are understandable given the large amount of people on the network, which is powered by satellites. However, now that we are in this stage of the war, internet connectivity *is* ubquitous here, and I believe that it should be provided properly. At the very least, I wonder why with all the hundreds of soldiers paying the ridiculous amount for monthly service, why MIT hasn't been able to make enhancements to their networks in order to provide us with at least marginally better performance and speed.
Added to that, I have talked to several of my fellow soldiers who have tried to contact the company continually for support, only to be threatened by the support staff for bothering them.
For a company that is supposed to be providing a line of communication back home to our families and loved ones, MIT does a horrible job and insults the work we do here with their overpriced and inadequate service.

It seems that the only service you can count on is MIT taking your money. MIT service is the worst that I have ever experienced. Forget downloading files and go make some coffee or take a walk while waiting for a page to open. The guy at the service desk barely speaks english and the boss always seems to be away for a week, , , , come back then. WHATEVER! Some may say to consider where we are and be glad to have any internet but I disagree. If a company sells a product, it should work where it is being sold. Maybe if they invested a little of the money that the customer pays them into equipment that worked they wouldn't have so many pissed off customers.
I understand both sides of the spectrum here, I have been here for 11 months, and I feel the prices are steep, for the amount of GB you are alloted. Regardless how much they pay for bandwidth per month, they get that back, 10 fold. I think they should at least increase the amount of GB per month, then maybe fellow soldiers would appreciate the service better.
It is SATELLITE Internet service and costs about $3, 000 per Mb per month for JUST the bandwidth! Get some facts straight and cut the BS! The base is full of strong competing RF signals, so there are places where disruption is common, but they have hard wired my hooch to avoid that problem and it works!
I agree one hundred and ten percent, this company is a ###ing rip off, MIT stands for My Internet Is Teribble, I have always been told if your gonna do something do it right, well MIT certainlly has never heard that, if your gonna give soldiers internet at least make it worth using, many of my friends get so frustrated because they cant even log into yahoo messenger to talk to loved ones back home, it should be a privlage to have internet here not an annoying ###in service that makes you want to pull your hair out
Amen brother... tell it like it is... this company is ripping off the soldiers that allow them the freedom to even have a business like this. $65 a month for less than dial up speed sometimes is ridiculous. If you were paying that much a month for internet connection back home then you would have it made with a much faster connection.
