I have been trying without success to contact Nationwide Building Society UK regarding two Dormant Tessa Accounts with Portman Building Society who they apparently took over in 2007, both myself Stefan Brant Wickenden and my wife Angela Lucille Elliott had a Tessa savings accounts with Portman in 2002. Nationwide Building Society Contacting Nationwide Building Society following payment problem.

August 25th 2023 Birmingham Airport. I was in the UK for a brief visit, when I tried to pay for an item the card was refused. On checking the account today I have £300 on account but only £48 available. On trying to contact the customer services, to understand why - a gentleman named Hassan (who barely spoke English was very unhelpful and didn't seem understand my English. Any ideas anyone or explanations ?.

Desired outcome: To understand why the account has money which is not available.

Nationwide Building Society Look elsewhere for a Professional Bank / building society! NOT Nationwide!

Your Customers Deserve Much better!

I had reason to Phone Nationwide Customer service again, it is Always hit and miss situation whether or not You’ll get an appropriate, Professional, Respectful response?

I could not access my On-line Nationwide bank account and the information assumed by the ‘Customer service’ staff was Wrong!

After trying in vain to clarify the point I was met with indifference, talking over me and then the ‘customer service’ terminated the call Literally put the phone down on me!

I had to call up again go through the lengthy system requirements and wait for another ‘customer service’ personal answer and more security questions only to find that the ‘customer service’ person did not know her job and had to put me on hold to ask someone else!

I was finally given the simple answer!

Because the whole experience was distressful and upsetting to a mature ill man and Not wishing for a repeat of this to any other customer I contacted the Financial Ombudsman and a thorough investigation took place where the phone calls were listened too and the Financial Ombudsman Investigator who did such a professional job found in my favour informing the Nationwide Building society of the clear reasons why, and awarding me £50 as a token compensation for all the time and distress it created.

Sadly Nationwide Building society it appears chose to ignore the Independent Professional advice of the financial Ombudsman Investigations and Pay me that small (to them) token reward of £50 to-date.

My Advice if Ever Your Require a Professional Bank Building society that Listen to its customers, Care for the Customers in a way they would not Hang up on you, and Believe in True Customer service, Respect for their customer and the Investigations of an Independent Financial Ombudsman investigation DO NOT Open and account with Nationwide Building Society!

There are Many better more Customer care Orientated Banks Building society’s out there !

Nationwide Building Society Wrongful suspension of current account

I have a current account with Nationwide Building Society which I have held for 10 years +, this account has both mine and my husbands wages going into it and all direct debits relating to the household come out of it - i dont hold any other accounts. I also have a credit card with the Society and have had unforseen difficulties in repaying this card and others so have entered onto a Debt Management plan to get myself back on my feet.

Nationwide have decided that they will not cooperate with the debt management company and without notice have suspended my current account so i have no access to any money whatsoever and have had to send 2 out of my 3 children to school without dinner money, i have no milk in the house and barely any food. I found out that the account was suspended when i visited asda to do my weekly shop 2 days ago and my debit card was declined even though the account is in credit.

I now have no means of paying my mortgage, gas, electric, council tax, car finance etc so i authorised them by telephone to take the £440 from the account on 27/11 so it could be re-activated but to date this still has not been done and so my kids have gone to school once more without any money and i have no means of feeding them when they return from school.

The company is well aware of my predicament and have offered no empathy whatsoever and i am now facing further charges for non payment of direct debits ie. mortgage not paid - £35 which in turn is plunging me further into debt.
