Multiple calls and unauthorized charges
Over the past few months I've received several calls (to a number registered with DO NOT CALL) from an agency wanting to "verify I am receiving the magazines I ordered." My standard answer was, "I didn't order any magazines, take me off your list." Today I received a similar call from a "Nicole" at "Readers Services" (number on caller ID was [protected]) asking the same thing. She said I had signed up for a set of magazines including GLAMOUR, ROLLING STONE, SHAPE, ELLE, and others, for 5 YEARS, and a monthly charge of around $69. I told her I never did that; she said she could reduce it but not cancel it, again because "the magazines are preordered from the publisher." So she did that, agreed to send me all the details in the mail (she said it would come from Ft Meyers, FL) and sent me to "John" her supervisor. John asked me to verify my credit card number; he gave me the expiration date of 2017 but none of my cards have that expiration date. I refused to give him a credit card number. But he said he could not process the "reduction" without a valid card and without a valid card they would report me to a collections agency so, yes, I finally caved and gave him one. Then he passed me to his "bookkeeper" who proceeded to ask me a number of questions. He said he needed them to process my reduction. He kept starting over because he said my answers exceeded the time allowed by the recording (I didn't want to agree to anything he said!). Finally I refused to answer one about my income; he said he needed a number so I said $100/month. He said he couldn't process my reduction if I was going to "play games." At that point I told him I did not have to answer his questions and I hung up on him.
I then called my credit card company and learned that these people had charged me $59 (though they said the first payment would not be charged until the 1st of next month). I put a freeze on my card and will call tomorrow to dispute that charge and have future ones blocked. I have since filed several complaints with various agencies.

Unfortunately I cannot call her back because the _ symbols above indicate unintellible portions of the voice message, and caller ID indicated the call came from the number 249 which obviously did not work when I tried to call it back. Calling the original number, [protected] gave unsatisfactory results as it simply takes me to my wireless provider's toll-free directory assistance.

Credit Card Scam
Today I got 3 calls to tell me that I had won a $1, 000 gift certificate and I will have to use the selectyourgifts.com website to purchase gifts for myself or others for this amount. That will just cost me a small amount for each order. But the other part was that I had also to subscribe to 5 Magazines and that will cost me $3.80 per week. The first person Andrea said $15 and some changes per month. Then with the 2nd and 3rd person (Georgia and Lisa) the story had changed it was 39.99 per month for the first 20 months then I can enjoy the 5 magazines for free for the rest of the time (40 months)! I asked if these magazines were weekly to the 1st person which I half did the selection with. I could not get a firm yes, but I got her to tell me the name of the 5 magazines: America, American heritage, Popular Science, Shape and Prevention. The 2nd person got my debit card information. Then the 3rd person got me into repeating on the phone what I had to say and answer certain questions by yes, or no. When I check the list of Magazines after these 3 calls, because I was a little suspicious, I discover that these magazines were not weekly except one, and the total amount of the sub-s was $618.80 for 5 years at the price of today (March 5th, 2010) compare to the cost of 799.80 ($39.99 time 20...). I had also check the checking account associates with my card and saw that "Readers Services" had charge my debit card of $39.00 (the charge was in hold with something else I had purchased on internet after). My concern really started when I could not find an address with the toll free # that they gave me which I had just made confirm with the 3rd person. But I find it when I put "Publisher" and part of the phone # "269 4179". What I find was a ton of scam complainers about a "Blue Whale Publications" Company with this toll free number. My account will be charge on the 10 of every month of $39.99 but the magazine will only arrive within 3 or 4 months. And the toll free number was to be used to change any magazine I wish or the date of the charge for my debit card... The three call were shorts particularly the last one, where I was given a tract #, without knowing nothing for what it was for. So I may have to ask my bank tomorrow to send me another debit card before they use it for anything else! My impression is that I should not pay anything.

Iam trying to cancel my account they keep tell me i dont have one but yet they debited my account trying to get my money back iwas told i would recieve these magazines for 3 month and the other payments were up to me well they took 38 dollars for my bank account without authorization for me i want it to stop!
My 82 Year Old Dad got sucked into one of their scam letters to buy a magazine subscrition for $10.00. They automatically took 89.77 from his bank account. I called to cancel the order and get a refund. They said I would get the money back within two weeks. Then they had the gall to call here and verify his subcription after I had canceled. I called the numbers on caller ID and they " do not accept calls at this time, call back later". This is 6 months later and nothing! When I try to call them back I get a message always says the "Mailbox is Full, Call Back Later"

I have been getting phone calls from this company and the last person I spoke with was a lady named Alyssa. She asked me how are my magazines getting to me are they ok. I told her that I havent recieved anything from them and I am tired of getting these phone calls and she said that my account will be turned over to collection and I told her that I didn't owe anything and she hung up on me. The first phone call I got was from a lady and she asked me the same thing and I heard somebody in the back ground telling her what to say and I was scared what was going on and so I hung up that was last week. I tried to get the phone number by dialing *69 and it was unavailable.
