Does not meet industry standard
Paralegal Studies Program offered by Westervelt is one to avoid. In researching complaints it becomes obvious that the management is not listening to the students. The September 2012 enrollment students are still faced with policies and facilities stuck in the stone ages. They recently added wifi that works very poorly, if at all, and only within limited hours. The student lounge was over crowded and still does not have anything to enable the students options for healthy nourishment. The policy about not having laptops in classrooms remains in place while most other real colleges are equipped and encourage students to make use of these things. A class room was opened as a study space but is often found to be locked. Tests results are posted or returned for such a short period of time that students can not properly learn from errors. Exams are not offered for review at all and are apparently shredded in short order. One teacher in particular has been complained about by many students with no results. I was told to expect class size around 15 which was a factor in deciding to take the risk but it was closer to 40. Having already made a change in lifestyle to accommodate being in school for a year, I was trapped, but had circumstances been different, I would have withdrawn from the program immediately. Several students that enrolled in 2012 plan to join together and pursue complaints with Second Careers, the Law Society, and MTCU. This school should not be accredited by anyone.
Amazing College
First and foremost - Westervelt College is an amazing school! I'm extremely proud of my education and highly recommend the College. Those of you speaking differently, need to take responsibility for your lives rather than blaming others. Some of my fellow grads who have read the negative posts actually feel sorry for those people, resorting to such foul language and unprofessional methods.
I would like to express my appreciation to the staff for the very positive experience I had. I decided to make a career change, and was drawn to Westervelt because of its excellent reputation for professionalism, quality instruction, and job search training. From the moment I walked in the door, I felt as if I was part of a big family. I was not just a number. The moral support is excellent, the teachers are great, and the courses are practical and up-to-date. The best lesson I have learned is, "Have a positive attitude and you will succeed!" This applies to school, the workplace, as well as my personal life.
Westervelt gave me the tools and training to launch a very successful career, and I made lifelong friends.
I am a successful graduate and proud to be among the network of 48, 000 others.

This is the best school I have gone too. Learned a lot and enjoyed the year tremendously.
This is the guy that started the original complaint on here 3 years ago. Yeah, the guy that was SILENCED by the scammers that run this so-called 'school'. I still haven't forgotten how awful my teacher was, or how rotten I was treated.
After having lived in Sudbury for a few years now, and having completed some welder training at a real school, I can safely say that Westervelt was even worse than I originally thought it was. I just LOVE how they won't let you review your tests, you just have to take their word for it. Or how the administration is all in cahoots with the awful teachers here.
I say this once again, to any prospective students of this 'school', please don't make the mistake I and so many others have made. They don't care about you, only how much OSAP or government funding they can squeeze out of you before they throw you aside.
Education is not something you can fast track. If you don't have what it takes to get into a real institution like Fanshawe or Cambrian, go back to school at either Wheable or the Centre for Lifelong Learning, and then apply.
Furthermore, the way they silenced me and the others on this thread, does that sound like a business that you want to associate with? Any business that is legitimate would want to listen to the critics and try to right what is wrong, but these guys just sweep everything under the bloody rug. No WONDER you can't find anything negative about them online.
Westervelt College London Ontario Canada.
1st you do not need to attend Police Foundations to be a Police Officer.
2nd Before you decided being a Police Officer research everything there is to know about it.
3rd If your a visible minority you have a better chance of getting a job as a Police officer.
4th ATS Testing is required and costs money, it's not cheap.
5th Westervelt College will give you an entrance test, but no one fails, you will be accepted to your program of choice.
6th Westervelt College is a for profit business, they are registered with the better business bureau.
7th Go to a Gov't College or University, in my opinion it is the better educational choice.
ComplaintsBoard is a consumer COMPLAINT site! I am becoming increasingly annoyed with people using this consumer complaint site as a portal for advertising, and reviews of products or services, almost all of them in which are faked.
hahah...
So I'm at work and a co-worker notices my old "London Knights" tshirt I have on (I work on a production line, no sense in wearing nice new clothes right?)and we get talking. Turns out, he's from London as well. He told me that his ex-girlfriend moved back home for financial reasons, and ended up enrolling at Westervelt just in September for the Accounting program. One teacher in particular this poor girl is having a problem with. When she bombed a test, she asked for help because she didn't understand the unit they were on. What was his response a basica "I don't give a ###".
This is so true with Westervelt. They roll out that red carpet for youwhen you come into the place to inquire about their programs or to register, but after they get your OSAP money, government funding, or whatever you pay out of your own pocket, they couldn't give a ### about you. If this weren't true, there wouldn't be so many unhappy customers.
LOL... I want to know who wrote this up. Was it Mrs. Teetzel, that stupid useless ### that sits in her office all day doing jack ###? Or how about creepy obvious pedophile sales guy (I'm being nice here and not saying his name) using this website as a way to market the 'school' ?
"From the moment I walked in the door, I felt as if I was part of a big family. I was not just a number. "
Obvious sales pitch is obvious.
I rest my case.
The school is awful according to my friend that was silenced. It is such a joke trying to get a job.
We are boycotting the school soon, stay tuned.
Okay, this is getting to be pathetic. We can see through your ### here Westervelt admin staff. First you started with your fake posts praising the school. (My favorite was the "if you see me patrolling the streets, smile because you had a part in me getting here".) - You use that very same catch phrase as an advertisement for the police foundations program. Then you were too ###ing stupid to log out and create another account when you posted some copy pasta for yet another fake student. I guess you realized you done goofed, and then created even more obvious fake accounts. Then the owner of the school comes on and posts a form letter response on two threads, none of which addresses either one of the OP's concerns. On top of that, you're having all your critics SILENCED. - Even anyone that agrees with them.
And then you have the nerve to say that if we weren't able to find work in our chosen feild of study, that it's OUR fault? How about the fault of the school for not teaching students properly? I showed up everyday, did all my homework, assignemnts and excelled in my tests & exams, only to end up with a worthless piece of paper in the end. The reality is, private career institutions(I hate even referring to them as institutions) are bad news, and aren't taken seriously anywhere. Bottom line is this, if it comes down to a public college grad or a private one, the former will ALWLAYS be the top choice. - I actually did a little bit of office work while I was on light duty for a short while, and overheard this from an HR person at the place where I work.
For anyone considering attending, DON'T. Does this look like a legitmate institution to you? (I refuse to call this place a college) Take the extra time it takes to get your diploma at Fanshawe, St. Claire, or that one college in Sarnia. (Huron I think it is?) You will be glad you did in the end.
Beware!
This place is effed. I went in and had to sit through the sales-shpeel and get the tour only to be told they had no open spots for me. Gardiner said he'd get an update and call me the next day. 10 days later I called only to have him say "Oh yeah, we have a few spaces open for that." I figured it was all part of their antiquated sales techniques. So he ask...

That school is a joke. It's sad to see that not much has changed in years. I went there a while back and made a complaint on this site. Suddenly people from the staff were writing fake reviews and stuff. Check it out:
