I tested a Simmons Beautyrest mattress in Kirschmans Furniture Store in Metarie, La. The bed was wonderful in the store. I had the bed delivered on Jan. 17, 2004. It was a Simmons Beautyrest Avenue edition bed. Also purchased was the recommended bed frame and mattress pad. The bed was fine for about two months, then I noticed that it started to sag and cause back aches. I contacted Kirschmans about the problem several times, as the recorded info for Simmons warranty advises you to do. I received no response. This went on for about 2 years. I finally got someone from Kirschmans to assign a service ticket for the bed to be inspected. No one showed up nor called.
I since had to move from La., due to hurricane Katrina, to California. I contacted Simmons directly and filed the claim. Simmons sent someone out from Sleepteks to inspect the bed. The inspector used a metal measuring tool, placed it across the bed and specifically told my finance and I that there was "definitely a defect with this bed." He further advised that we should call Simmons if we don't hear from them within a weeks time.
I received a letter from Simmons stating that they would not warranty the bed because the there was a red tint on the surface of the mattress. This tint was cause from using red sheets on the bed. Furthermore, they stated that they would not warranty the bed due to it not being in an approved frame, even though the bed was used in a frame recommended by the furniture store. We purchased a new bedroom set approximately 3 months prior to the inspection, which has more cross member support than the metal frame it was purchased with. Simmons further stated that the bed depression wasn't sufficient enough to warrant replacing the bed. I asked to have the tech report sent to me which Simmons denied. They stated that it was property of Simmons and "none of my business."
Simmons is only looking for ways to not cover their product. When we buy merchandise we as consumers should feel confident that we are buying quality and have the assurance of the warranty, which is one of the selling points. I feel that Simmons has misrepresented itself and feel that their actions are despicable.
Additional note: After telling Simmons reps about the conversation with Sleepteks rep. They said that he was not supposed to tell anyone about the findings and that they would look to have him fired. I believe that there is something to hide with that statement alone.
Please respond with further complaints or any advise on this matter smb!
Bait and switch on a mattress I thought I was getting. Wouldn't return my money, said they would give me another mattress with a store credit, I refused their offer. Don’t buy from Beautyrest Simmons!
I have really bad back problems, which is actually why we bought the Simmons Beautyrest Hudson Hi-Loft Pillowtop in the first place. In the store, it was the only one that didn't give me pain sleeping on my side. (I have fairly large hips, and get shoulder/hip dislocation problems when I sleep)
At first, this bed was a blessing. A couple months later and it started to move. My boyfriends slight movements can keep me up all night, and the jerkiness of the bed readjusts my neck and I wake up from the pain. I had to stop working because my back got so bad, and now I have to take sleeping pills just to get through the night.
We tried tightening the bed frame, thinking that was the culprit moving the bed, but even after putting both the mattress and box spring directly on the floor, the bed STILL SHAKES! I only sleep well when I sleep alone, and even then I still wake up at least 4 or 5 times from my own body shaking the bed.
I used to own a waterbed and it was the best sleep of my life - moving while sleeping isn't usually an issue for me. But this Simmons Beautyrest... the movements are so jerky, I wake up in so so much pain. It feels like someone is actually physically shaking/vibrating the bed every couple seconds. Ugh.
Enough of my rant - now for my question:
Has anyone here found a better mattress for motion transfer and back pain?
I'm looking for something super-soft so I can still sleep on my side (I can't sleep on my back because of breathing problems-waiting to see a surgeon)
I've had allergic reactions to the tempurpedic mattresses, so that's not really an option for us (also, super expensive)
Thanks a lot & good luck everyone!
Unfortunately, buying a mattress is harder than buying nearly anything. There are no unbiased reviews. They are all just ads posing as reviews. I have spent hours and hours doing research on the internet and what one "review" says is the best, another says is the worst. I did read one thing that is consistent among all these reviews which is that the tempurpedic ones hold up much longer than a coil-spring one. But I hate the foam ones as does my husband. And I put a lot of the salespeople in the same category as used car salespeople which may be unfair but no one else who ever tries to sell me anything does it so aggressively as the ones I've dealt with (and they are on commission). We might as well just have our cat go around to all these stores and lie on them and decide. I bet it wouldn't make any difference.
Unfortunately, this is how companies GO OUT OF BUSINESS. I have been researching mattress to find the best mattress company with exceptional CUSTOMER SUPPORT. My results: DENVER MATTRESS COMPANY - hands down. Best service, best customer support, and best warranty. SIMMONS has been losing market share rapidly - and will likely file bankruptcy protection in the years ahead - all because they did not back their product or their distributors.
Hard to close and close after reclining
The cable that connects the recliner mechanism to the release button broke . I just need a new cable I've had the recliner for less than a year. Not a big deal stuff happens I just need the part.
