Unauthorized use of my credit card
Looking at my credit card statement on line today I found an amount of $35.00 for TWX Magazine (Bird Talk) which I did not order. I do take a watered down version of Bird Talk which I paid for by personal check several months ago. Before disputing the claim I called this service and told them I did not authorize payment, nor did I order the new subscription since I already had one for two years. The gentleman (?) told me I must have forgotten, I told him I didn't forget just a matter of one week ago. We argued some what. He then said the service would credit my account but it would take two months? What? He claimed I was sent an email by another magazine I had ordered. I am not sure how this service got my Credit Card number but am glad it's not a debit card. I believe it give Bird Talk Magazine a black eye and any other magazine for that matter. I would think it would be illegal for other magazines to sell credit card numbers.

KUDOS TO LISA, who had the number to contact a person to take cake of this mess. i was charged $32.oo to my account for magazines i didn't order.i apparently was on a survey, they say. And Lisa was right, they tried and tried and tried to get me to get more magazines.i must say the young lady i got was very nice. but i was firm! you must be FIRM! here is the phone number again to anyone who missed it...[protected]...thank you again.be careful of anything online.thank you for this site, otherwise i never would have got my money back.

So, I did the whole "free" thing and then I never received one of those magazines that were "free" and was then billed for them. I was also automatically signed up for other magazines and have been getting charges for magazines that I have not been receiving. This company is bogus, and should seriously be sued by all of the people it screws over. I have to close my bank account now because every time I "cancel" my account more charges show up, and that is after I just straight up cancel and not do one of the cancel and get stuff plans. Seriously, this is stealing and stealing is illegal. It is the unlawful use of someone's bank account information to steal their money. I would also like to let you FYE know that they were/are helping a company steal from their customers...thats kind of bad for business.

This is a total scam and everyone should be warned not to trust this company. I will take legal action against them & i will get my money back. I purchased a DVD for my husband in August, I was offered the free magazines, so I accepted after being told that I wouldn't be charged and that it was free for 3 months, after that, I was told I would be notified if I wanted to renew the subscription. In October, my account was charged for $49.00 and was never notified! I just checked my bank statement this morning and there was another $49.00 charge that I NEVER authorized! I called and I actually got an operator after about 5 minutes of automated CRAP. This is the number that I called [protected] I hope this helps the people who have become victims of this horrid company as I have.
They say nothing in this world is free. And this company certainly makes sure of that. It happened with small purchase made at our Local Best Buy store. For simply making the purchase I was to recieve a years worth of three magazines of my choice. There was a small $2.00 service charge that was billed to a seldom used credit card. I made a mental note to look for any automatic renewal charges on subsequent bills so that I could cancel them. Sure enough in my September statement the charges appeared for $55.00, $22.00 and $22.00. for the three magazines. I immediately contacted the 1-800 number that appeared with each charge. It was one of those really frustrating phone trees that made you wish for the impossible, that being to speak to an actual human being. Halfway through the cancellation process you were being given an additional sales pitch via the automated process to renew the subscriptions. It seemed incredible considering that I had chosen to cancel my subscription. By the time it was done I was literally yelling answers into the mouthpiece of my phone to get the cancellation completed. Worse was having to go through the SAME process for each individual magazine. It took a little over 30 minutes to complete. So early last week I was doing the household bills. I located the credit card bill and looked for the refund. None was noted. I checked online to see if their had been any newer refunds that might have appeared after the credit card completed billing for the month. Nothing was found. I called back the only number I had listed which was the same 1-800 number I had been using to cancel the magazines. I really ONLY wanted to speak to a human being. I took a chance halfway through the process and though it was not given a choice I dialed zero at one of the prompts. The phone began ringing and voice informed me that all of their customer representatives were currently busy and it could a long time to wait. They suggested I continue my efforts with the automated calling feature. Instead I placed the phone on speaker and proceeded to complete my bills. Fortunately I only waited 10 minutes or so on the line. The representative greeted me warmly and of course requested ALL the information I had provided the automated service all over again. But I remained patient. They then informed me that the $2.00 renewal service charge had been cancelled and would not appear in any subsequent billings. I asked then why I was not refunded any partial amounts for the magazines. It was explained that during my phone call the month before that all I had accomplished was to remove the $2.00 renewal fee but had not cancelled the magazines. That was when I realized indeed that NOTHING is free in this land. I was able to cancel the magazines and recieved a partial pro-rated refund for the amount but not without a tremendous amount of angst. The moral of this story is be very leary of Best Buys free magazine offers. They may not be all that free after all.
I read A LOT of bad things about this company when I looked into it after I saw a temporary charge to my credit card for some magazines. I actually am quite happy with their service. I recieved 3 great magazines for one year all for under $5 (a $75 value even if I bought them at the discounted prices offered through the magazines themselves).
When I saw the charges, I realized that it must have been in the fine print that I would get automatic renewals, so I didn't freak out. I did have trouble finding a valid phone number, but the one above is the one my bank gave me and I was able to call and cancel, recieving a full refund for the charges. The person I spoke with was kind and helpful (just press "0" to get to a person).

I was billed for Health and Ladies Home Journals renewals without my requesting same. My credit card was charged $16.00 for each magazine and the "automatic" center said I would be refunded $13.98. THIS IS FRAUD. What protection do we have from this disgusting scam?
This company charged two magazines to my credit card without my authorization.
For two years in a row this company has hammered us with renewal notices and then when we didn't respond, took it upon themselves to charge my original card that I used for the first subscription 4 years ago (I haven't renewed since). Last year, about this time, this company, TWX MAGAZINES charged me for a year's subscription without my approval.
Guess what? They just did it again!?!?!?!?! Does anyone have any links where I can report them to the BBB or some other regulating agency? How do these telemarketers think they can get away with charging for things I didn't ask for? I can only imagine the $100, 000's of $1, 000's these snakes are raking in from the people who don't look to closely at their statements. How can they live with their slimy selves?

magazine's last year, came time to renew she filled out cancle card sent to us with last magazine, we have not recieved any more magazine's however last week alot of my auto pays for gas, elect, phone etc. were declined for nsf i called my credit card company and was told several charges were made for opera, maxium, cosmo, womens day magazine's and was advised i must call twx for refund, called twx and found out they charged my card# not my wife's (?) i canceled anything they had on me twx said it would take 72 hrs for credit to be issued back on card... we'll see.

In regards to free subscriptions, notice your expiration date to avoid charges
I noticed a pending charge of $2.09 from TWX Magazine posted to my bank account this morning. A year ago I had subscribed to Match.com and was offered a free promotion to receive a magazine of my choice. I choose InStyle. Here is what you need to know if you choose a free magazine:
When the magazine is delivered to you, notice the expiration date on the upper right-hand corner of the address label. Mine says DEC09. TWX will post $2.09 to your account three months before the expiration date to make sure your account is still active/valid. This money will absolutely be deducted from your account! If you take no action, your account with TWX will automatically renew and you will be charged the full amount of the magazine.
When you notice the $2.09 charge to your account, simply call [protected]. Tell the person who answers the phone that you noticed the charge, would like to cancel your subscription and reimbursed the $2.09.

Unable to cancel free subscription
Through entering a running race I was elegible to sign up for 3 free months of 4 magazines, which I did. I was given a cancellation number which I was informed could be called to cancel all magazines. Upon calling the number, instead I was taking to, in effect, a phone sweepstakes and the "chance to win money". There was no way to ghet to a live person and therefore actually cancel the magazines.
One by one I was able to track down the individual magazines and cancel subscriptions but obviously hadn't cancelled them all as I was just charged $25 to my account for "TWX Magazines"
It's just not worth the hassel for 3 months of magazines.

I would not order any magazines from TWX. I paid for a renewall and a gift subscription and they only paid the magazine company part of the money. I did not get my order and they had no record of were I paid. I payed with my pal pal account, and the woman on the phone did not understand what Paypal was...how stupid. NOw I have to wait for them to find out where my money went...I paid in July and it is now Sept. I would have never known but my magazine kept sending me bills. They are a rip off. free subscription - unfamiliar credit card charge
I just spoke with a rep at TWX Magazine (I used the 800 number found here) who explained to me the nature of the unfamiliar pending charge that I had noticed on my credit card today. This is very interesting: I subscribed to MATCH.com and got a promotional free subscription to Rolling Stone Magazine which they coordinate and offer to active credit card holders only. I was told the pending charge should disappear by tomorrow and I would not be charged, as stated in the promotion. The reason they place that allegedly temporary pending charge is to confirm I am indeed a credit card holder, that is that the card is active. The charge was $2.01 and I will update my post if it's not gone by tomorrow.

Wow.. This company really is NOT that bad. I got a 90 day free trial from an fye store. The terms and conditions were right on the receipt (which responsible people actually read), I got them free for three months, and then I got a postcard in the mail letting me know I was going to be charged with the full price and the # to call, so I called and they hooked me up with 16 issues for like 6$, and they told me over the phone I'd be charged agian after that was over, so I called back a few days later and they set it up so it would never charge me again, no problem... I mean, honestly, most of the complaining I'm seeing is because people got charged.. how naive do you have to be to think that a for-profit company is just going to keep giving you stuff for free?
Ok, I took advantage of the offer to check out some magazines on a trial basis but Nowhere did it say that my subscription would automatically be renewed nor did I receive anything in the mail stating that it would.The automated service took forever but after hitting the pound sign over, over and over I got an agent on the line.She kept trying to get me to renew, which I'm aware is her job, but finally she refunded the charges.You also have to tell the agent to cancel any other magazines you have with them because they won't ask!
When I checked my bank account I noticed a charge for $2.01 from TWX. I have never given my information or purchased any magazine subscription. I am not sure how they got my information but when I called the number it was automated and they didn't recognize my name. Go figure since I have never signed up for them. Because they didn't recognize my name I was unable to cancel or get my money refunded or even talk to a live person. I had to go through my bank's fraud department to get this stopped.
They have debited/credited my account for a magazine subscription that I have cancelled with the magazine itself. The first time I called them and told them that I did not want the magazine(s) renewed. They returned my money but now they have done so again. I do not want any magazines at this time and I did not authorize them to take money from my account. Also, the first time I knew which magazines they were attempting to renew but today they have opted to leave the name of the magazine out of the subject line. I am going to call my bank and see if they can help me. What can I do in the future if they attempt to do this again? Surely this company can be kept from debiting/crediting people's accounts without their express permission.
I was surprised to see a 22.00 debit being taken out from my checking account by twx. I have never ordered any magazine(s) and they are stealing from me. I have contacted the local police and they are forwarding it to the FBI internet fraud Dept. I suggest you all make police reports and take a copy of this site and show them that they are ripping you off. I have called the 800 number and I always get hung up on before I even get to talk to anyone. Anyone else getting anywhere? Since this was a debit they will not refund money. I stopped my debit card.
I ordered something from Delia's online store, and at check-out there was an offer for 3 free trial magazine subscriptions for 3 months. So I decided to try it, and 3 days later I check my online bill statement and have a charge for $2.01 from TWX Magazine. First I call Delia's, which has horrible customer service as their listed customer service number does not even work, and they give me the number for TWX Magazine. The number they gave me does not even exist! So I came here and tried the different numbers posted and finally got through to them. I told them to take off the $2.01 charge and to completely cancel my subscriptions. They said they only do a pending transaction of $2.01 to make sure the account works. This transaction (the woman at TWX said the $2.01 would not be taken from my account) was not even authorized! I didn't give TWX the permission to use my credit card. Now I am going to have to close my bank account and open a new one at a different bank. ### YOU TWX! But thanks to all of you who warned everyone about TWX and other charges they have made to your account.
I never even heard about this magazine. Somehow I have a charge this month for the amount of $22.00, who are these people that they can just go into your account and charge for things that you have never ordered!

This company is nothing but a huge scam...They tried to say that i ordered a magazine two years ago and never canceled, but i was never charged anything until now Sept 11th, 2017. Two years later, so i had to cancel my credit card number because of this stupid ###ing company! This company should be shut down now!
Purchased from Stein Mart and was informed that I "won" 3 months of free magazines. I initially said no, but the clerk insisted that there were no strings attached. I would be sent the OPTION to renew if I wanted to - I would not have to cancel. Well now I have a $58.95 charge to my debit card with no authorization from me. Shame on them for not at least contacting me. I might have kept one of the magazines that I really enjoyed, but no way now - at least not from this company. How is it possible to debit from someone's checking account without prior authorization? Their business practices are deceptive, and they should be stopped.
How to Reach Real Live Person!!!
I have been receiving $2.01 charges on my account from this company a few times over the past few months. Every time they come up I would call cutomer service to cancel my subscription. Then I would be charged again! I was so frustrated that I could not get a real person on the phone.
It was only because of the magazine "Real Simple" (ironic, I know) that I found my answer. They have helpful hints about a lot of different things. This tidbit was about how to get a real person on customer service lines. Every company is different, so I tried everything... saying "customer service", saying "help", pressing 0 continually, nothing worked except being totally silent on the phone until they transferred my call to a real live peron!
So, if you want to talk to someone, which you should to make sure everything is cancelled, call the phone number and do not make a sound until they transfer you. It took me about 5 minutes before they transferred me and then I had to wait a few additional minutes on hold. I just did this today, so hopefully I won't be charged anymore, but I think when I kept repeating to the woman on the phone "I don't want anything, and I don't want to see any more chrages on my account" she got the picture. I felt a little bad for her, because she works for an aweful company and she has to offer me several different magazines. Oh well. Anyway, I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Ordered a book for my son for college, another window popped up asking me to rate the web, then was told thank you. You "qualified" for 4 free mag subscriptions. Then noticed that money was being taken out of my account by twx magazines. How they got my card number is a mystery to me, since I never entered it except on the page I ordered school books on. Was able to find a number on a blog with instructions on how to cancel & get my money back, thank goodness. But it's bull that the did this.
Thanks to the blog that gave me the info I needed to get this fixed & my money back. Wish authorities could do something though. Doesn't seem right how they received my card info.

I received an offer for a 6 month subscription to a magazine for $1.00, as an addition to a Match.com subscription that I purchased online. All the "back-issue" magazines I recieved came in a 2 month period. Now, 3 months after I agreed to the ONE DOLLAR charge, I have recieved all 6 months worth of the magazines and they are drafting the full year subscription price from my checking acct. There was no link to any information about the company from the small window that the offer popped up in, nor waas there any "fine print" or "charge agreement" other than the ONE DOLLAR ammount agreed upon. These "piece of crap" people should be exploited for the cowardly thieves they are and have to pay for their swindelous acts. There are 5 phone numbers for the company that I know of; they are all automated voice recordings and are of no help. DO NOT TRUST THIS "COMPANY"!

On 11/15/2008 had 2 charges taken from my bank account for magazine subscriptions: 1 amount for - $24.00, another charge foe $29.00 which I did not make either. I will be turning this over to the legal dpartment of my bank for futher investigation, and possible fraudulent charges against this company thru the Police department! Please note: there are numerous complaints
all over the internet against this magazine company accessing individual's bank account information! One person had to even change his bank / credit card in order to correct this problem!
I cancelled through the automated system but I wanted to speak to a live person to verify that the entire amount I was charged ($117) would be credited. I called [protected] also and got right through. He could see that I had gone through the automated system. He also did not give me a sales pitch for more magazines. The rep assured me the charges would come off in 72 hours. We will see.
This TWX place really is sneaky. I was called back a few months ago and was told I would receive a few magazines free just for taking a survey over the phone and then now I have been getting charges for those so called 'free' magazines. I called the number that showed up next to the charge statement [protected]) on my bank account and did the silent treatment thru the automated service and it got me thru to a real person in like 3 mins and she was really nice and canceled me out of all 3 of the magazine subscriptions that I was suddenly being charged for. If someone calls me again saying I can get free magazines for takin a survey over the phone for them I will defently decline.

[protected] This was a number that went through right away, canceling subscriptions that had a TWX prefix on my debit card. I got snookered into this through Biz Rate. The service rep was very nice, but just be careful when you are offered any subscriptions for a killer price. They count on you forgetting and letting it slip through the cracks. $85 is a huge hit for me.
I was charged for four magazine (two of two different dates) they costed $23, $31, $38 and $38. And of course how the economy is going and gas skyrocketing I know of no one who can just accept over $100 being taken out of their account for 4magazines (which most of the time I never get to read because i work ssssoooooooo much.) I searched this morning for the code billed to my account and was given Time Warner Magazine as a possible culprit. Thank God I found this site and proceeded to write down the two numbers. I expected a long wait so got a drink and a sandwich with my cellphone (for games and music). If I had to wait I was going to be prepared. I called [protected]), it rang, I got a message that the customer service people were busy so I will have to wait. I knew that would happen. But less than one minute, Angela (the customer service officer) was on the phone. She was polite however respectfully persistent with offers to keep the magazines. She assured me that the charges will be reversed in one to two billing cycles (basically one to two weeks). We will see. But the customer service get it done was excellent. Actually has me thinking I may get the mags when money is no longer tight.
I was hit with a $56 charge for one mag and $51 for another. The charges were still pending on my card, so I called [protected] and I reached a person immediately. No phone prompts, no long wait (maybe 30 seconds). The gentleman I spoke with was very easy to deal with. I just explained that I saw the charges on my card, I was aware that my card would be automatically charged if I didn't cancel within a timeframe and that I did cancel a couple months earlier. He canceled all of my subscriptions (I had 4 total) and reversed the two charges on my card. Use that phone number! It works and the people seem willing to oblige.
Unauthorized Charge to My Bank Account
Today I noticed a series of charges on my bank account totaling $115 for magazines. I never ordered magazines and am outraged that these charges could be pushed through my account without consent!

This happened to me today as well, charges for 27.27 showed up on my statement due to a trip to ULTA months ago. I called the number listed on my statement [protected], and after about 5 minutes I got a rep on the line who gave me no trouble about getting a refund, probably because they receive calls all day long about this crap. I don't find ULTA to be anything special and do not need to go back but I probably would have dropped in once in a while prior to this. They've lost a customer for good because they misrepresented this magazine offer as being FREE and that I would get invoiced via mail in regards to receiving more than the 2 free magazines offered at checkout.

I PURCHASED THE HIP HOP ABS DVD, AND WAS OFFERED THREE FREE MAGAZINES FOR THREE MONTHS. I CHECKED MY BANK STATEMENT I WAS CHARGED $6.03 FOR SOMETHING FROM TWX MAGAZINE. I DID NOT AUTHORIZE TWX TO CHARGE MY BANK CARD FOR ANYTHING EXCEPT THE HIP HOP ABS. I WANT MY $6.03 CREDITED BACK TO MY ACCOUNT. I CALLED AND CANCELLED THESE MAGAZINES EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY OF THEM. I JUST WANT MY MONEY BACK.

READ THIS--instructions on how to get your money back
i'm skipping the complaint because i'm assuming you already know from the others available. this is to help you get most of your money back. i got their CONTACT INFO by asking my bank. their phone number is [protected]. customer service is a machine. ask for information on your order, because they do these things in packs. that first charge may be just the first to come. if you cancel just the FIRST charged magazine, another charge for another magazine will pop up later. get the names of ALL the magazines they're charging you by asking for information on your particular charge, then asking for 'more details.' cancel one magazine first. STAY ON THE LINE. MAKE SURE when they ask, "do you want to receive the magazines you've already paid for?" SAY NO! DON'T RECEIVE THE MAGAZINES ALREADY PAID FOR! saying 'no' gets you your refund for whatever magazines you haven't received yet. you can't take it back once you say 'yes' to receiving the magazines you've paid for and forever forfeit the possibility of a refund. if you say 'no' they say they'll process your refund but that the money won't show back up in your account for a month or two. once you've gotten your cancellation number and refund promise, you have to repeat the whole process to cancel each magazine. i hung up and called back because of the offers they try to sell you as you cancel. GOOD LUCK!

Co. charge credit card w/o authorization
After my free trial magazine subscription...I recived my last 3 mags with a big card stateing LAST issue. A month later I receive the 3 mags in the mail. I looked up my account and it states cancelled. They charged my credit card $83.00 and I have been trying to speak to a human being at their co. for the last 3 days. I finally gavce up and e-mailed their "contact us" they will get back to me in 5 days !

I ordered something on line, and told I would receive 4 magazines free for my order . I have received the 4 magazines, and I do not want any more magazines. Do not send any more.
To my surprise my Bank Card was charged 58.50 for People mag that was suppose to be a free trial. I purchased something from The Avenue they ask me did I want to sign up and I said no. It's a hassle to cancel. She said no you can cancel right now and my information would not go anywhere. Imagine my surprise when I saw the charges. Then I called the 800 number after 3 attempts and holding for about 15 minutes I spoke with Colby. He finally agreed to refund all the charges and would be 72 hours so I said so 3 days. He says no working hours so that would be 5-7 days...Not sure why he didn't just say 5-7 days? It's a scam...I should have just went to my bank and reported it. No money yet and I really don't expect to see any. They did try to get me to keep my "free" mag that I am entitled to till April and they would send me a "free" gift. I said thanks but no thanks...
I was totally ripped off by the O magazine website also - talk about false advertising - It says quite clearly that you get 3 yrs of subscriptions for $25 - imagine my surprise when I selected this option and then it charged my mastercard $140! Wow I feel like the worlds biggest idiot now - I would have thought someone like Operah who supposively cares about people would be in charge of such an irresponsible company with false adversitsing clearly out to rip ordinary people off - what a scam! Sorry Operah you just lost my vote permanently - you can stick your 'free tote bag'...

As stated above, I'm making a complaint regarding placing a paid subscription to "O Magazine" with the written promise of receiving a FREE BUNUS GIFT of a tote bag. I have received my first magazine issue but no tote bag. After seeking information on this, I find I am one of many with the same problem. Please read initial complaint above and advise me. I do consider this a false advertisement and want to see an immediate correction of this problem.
I'm making an attempt to use any and all means to complain about the false advertising concerning "O MAGAZINE". I ordered "O Magazine" with the understanding I was to receive a free tote bag with my paid subscription. I have received the magazine but NO TOTE BAG. Looking in various areas online, I find I am one of many with the same problem. I consider this false advertising and wish to have a means of correcting this. I either want the tote bag or my money back. I also hear it is almost impossible to find a means of speaking to anyone in any customer service department. Oprah is extremely wealthy and should be in a position to hire employees to cover a complaint department! Please advise.

The company says were should have been aware of this coming down 13 months ago. My memory is declining and I find that reasoning unacceptable.
Never authorize a business to use your account information for renewal.
they will try to offer you only a partial refund or something like that. don't settle for that - that's how these scam companies make their $$. they will also put you on hold forever. best thing to do is cancel through your credit card company - it will take less time, you will get a full refund. and you will probably get the magazines until the fraudulent company figures it all out. we as consumers must find a way to not let these scams make profits, or they will keep doing it!
i woke up and found out i was missing $40 out of my bank account for some free 3 month magazine. yeah i'm pissed and have no way to contact anyone to get my money back
If you call the customer service number again (the phone number on your bank statement) and do not talk at all they will eventually transfer you to a live human being! I can feel your same frustration. Just ask them to cancel everything that they have on file for you. I thought I was only being charged for two magazines when it was really Six! Good luck to you...
False charges against my credit card
To the "obviously thorough" people who keep writing in suggesting that people are not paying attention. Not reading the fine print, or whatever, I suggesst that you pay a little closer attention to what the complainants are saying. Chances are that you have "no" idea what the complaintants situation is. And if so many people are complaining, then there is definately a consumer problem with both parties from the selling side.

Bought books at Books A Million and was told I could have magazines for free and that I was "STUPID" to not take them up on the offer. ..now I am being charged 25$ every other month for magazines that I didn't want in the first place. I've now cancelled the magazines TWICE! How crappy of BAM to push this scam!

Charged my checking account $37.00 for magazines I did not order. I did not receive a notice of any kind this would be happening. i contacted the company and they gave me credit and canceled the magazines. I told them to never charge my account for anything again and read some of the complaints I found on them the rep i was talking to. She seen not to care. They must be use to it by now.
This company got my card number and sent magazines to a faudulent address.

TWX Magazine withdrew $22.50 from my account and i want them to stop withdrawing money from my account.
I started checking my debit card transactions and noticed that TWX Magazine was on the transactions. I had never heard of these people, nor have I subscribed to their magazines. They began taking from my debit card on May 05, 2009. A total of $74.85 has been taken. I want my money returned!
I have been receiving charges to my credit card of amounts around $30. I did not authorize to purchase nor did I receive any magazines.

Scam - Rip Off
IF YOU WANT TO CONTAC THESE PEOPLE, THE PHONE NUMBER IS: [protected]. They have another number but it is automated and hard to get a person. I just called this number and cancelled everything with them. These people keep "giving" you subscriptions to magazines and then later you get huge amounts of money charged to your bank account. The first charge is for $2.01 and when I called to see what this is they said it is just a charge to make sure your account is still active and will be taken off in 24 hours. I guess this is so that in a month or two they can charge the larger amount to your account when your subscription "renews" without your permission. .

Don't stop checking your account, folks. I've called and gotten refunds and yet they still come back 6-9 months later! Sneaky little things. Sure, they're all polite. They know they'll ba baaaaaaaaaack!
Thank you for the telephone number. It was helpful and hopefully the cancellation takes place and a credit to my charge card. These people certainly are tricky at what they do. I received a call from the Harris Group who stated that they were putting together a year book from the college I attended. Now I wonder if that is bull as well. I guess only time will tell.
settle down people - this is how many businesses work - they get you with the good deal (mine was $2 for a whole year each for 4 magazines), then when it comes time to renew - they just do it automatically. It's not a SCAM, it's up to you to cancel the subscription after a year if you don't want to continue. Thank you however, for posting the phone number so I could cancel mine as well. I just called them, and they were very polite, and had no problem refunding me the full amount, and within 72 hrs I might add, which is very short compared to most places! They actually even refunded me 50 cents when I canceled one of the magazines early!
I needed to add sorry I just found this out. Go under www.bbb.org (better business bureau). don't put in zip but click USA site, than go to BBB for consumers and click check out a business, put under name TWX (the rep. told me their name was Synapse Group). The first one should do. Now go under their complaint history you would not believe how many issues they had but still get a good rating (I guess since they give some refunds or cancellations they keep a good grade).

I called the 800 number that you gave and it took me to a live rep. I adviced him I was recording the conversation on my phone and he was nice until I asked him to verify everything he promised. He said it would take him 78 business hours to refund me and I should have gotten a cancelation postcard in 2008 for the magazines. This is horrible. Why in the world would a company send a postcard so important through the mail. It should have been in an envelope but needless to say I never received anything and was not told they would renew without my approval. This is not acceptable. I told him I needed his promises in writing. He said they don't do that. I adviced him again I was recording him and needed to have someone with authority to verify this. He put me on hold and said a manager said they would send a letter in 30-45 days. I said no this is unacceptable. When I asked who he spoke to he said the guy next to him and a manager. I said let me speak to the manager. The manager said that was not true he would send the letter in 3-5 business days and refund me in 72 business hours with cancelling anything they had me down for. I never ever will except a verbal agreement I need it in writing for my records. I am not dumb and I read everything and I also listen and repeat what I hear to verify I heard correctly. I was never told they would make charges on my account I allowed another company to send magazines free under a trial basis and than for a total of one year no obligations to renew after that. This is what I was told and I agreed. I would not want more than one year unless it was a magazine I was familiar with and they were not. The manager also advised me I had a third magazine he would cancel, one I never received and had no clue I was being charged for it.

I remembered subscribing to a whole year abonnement for only 2$ per magazine (which was true) but when I saw today (a year later) on my online banking account that they charged me 44$ without notifying me, I called them and told them I wanted to cancel my account and get a refund.. because they never gave me a chance to decide whether or not I want to extent this membership.
The woman on the phone said they would notify people 2 weeks prior via postcard but I told her I never got such a notification.
After another "special offer" talk, she accepted my request to cancel my account completely and assured me to refund me as well.
It was rather easy.
So don't do it through your bank (filing a claim), just call this number [protected]) and you'll be fine. :)

I went through three numbers and tried to cancel four magazines, one of which I had never received anyway, and kept getting messages that I would receive no future billings after my current term. Only once did I hear a refund amount. I really appreciate getting this number because they were billing me $160 for magazines I could have gotten for about $50 tops! I am hoping the refunds all come through... Like Jason, I never got anything telling me to call to cancel. The guy who answered the phone was so helful so quickly that I am sure they know what a rip-off they are.

unauthorized charges
On November 26th, I received two charges from twx magazine on my Visa account: one in the amount of $71.00, the other 119.95. I did not authorize any such transactions nor have I ever ordered anything from this company.
If you google twx, the first thing that pops up is SCAM!
Just noticed the two charges on my account, I remember getting a free three month subscription to three magazines of my choice, but I never sent anything to them to renew my subscriptions and it hasn't been the three months I was promised. Very upset about this, can anyone tell me if they are able to get their money back and how? I might just end up having to cancel my card, I'd hate to have to do that but based on what other people have said I might have to.

I just got charged 29, 59 and 65 on our account. Must be a real problem because our bank (Wachovia) didn't blink an eye to refund our money. All banks should flag this company and the only way an order can go through is if the bank calls the card holder.
The only magazines I order are those I pay for with a check not a credit card.

I ordered from Frederick of hollywood clothing and they offer me 3 months i get free magazines .After half months i called them and told they stop sending me magazines.When I checked my credit card twx charged me for 38 dolars.When i called frederick of hollywood they told me they don't know anything about that.I have to close my bank account because them.
I also had charges come through on my card. One for $49 and one for $24. I called the number listed with the charges. Their automative system is a bit of a pain, but I hit "zero" almost right away to try to get to an operator. They try to tell you it will be a long wait and try to use the automative system. I said "no" and was on hold only a few minutes. The lady I spoke was actually very helpful. She told me what the charges were for. (I signed up for free magazines and they automatically renewed) I simply asked if she could cancel the magazines and give me a refund. She said yes, she could do that. They then try to get you to sign up for another magazine or a few free months. I suggest saying "no" so no other renewals happen. I then asked for a confirmation number for the refunded money. I just called today, so we'll see how long the money takes to return. I also filed an inquiry with my bank right away, just to have it on file. Hope this helps.

This morning I got a call from my credit card company saying they had declined a $2.18 charge to my card from TWX Magazine and asked me to confirm if this was an authorized transaction. I told them it was not and I was told that the only reason it was declined was because the company did not have the expiration date on the card. It was a close shave. I have no idea how they got my credit card number but obviously I have never authorized them to charge me for anything. Why doesn't someone jail them for fraud and such obvious scams?

unauthorized purchase
Looked at bank statement today and saw an unauthorize purchase from TWX Magazine in the amount of $2.01. I never bought any magazine subscription. I googled TWX magazine and all that came up was scam after scam of unauthorized purchases. Rather than call the magazine, I called the bank to report it and the cusomer service rep advised we close the card and issue a new one as the purchase was done against my check card. Before it got any worse, I agreed and closed card for a new one. It is an inconvenience to do this, but better safe than sorry. Stupid scammers. UGH.
I just checked my bank account and I have a $1.00 charge from this TWX magazine. I haven't ever ordered anything from this place and just like KJ, I google it and this is what came up. Now I know it's only a dollar, but I'm afraid that there will be future charges to my account. I'm calling my bank first thing tomorrow about this crap.
I noticed 2 charges for $1 each three days ago and then this morning I had 2 charges of $18.99 with some TWX Magazine, I got nothing but automated answers until I pushed the button that asked if I had an order to place, finally they put me through and then the guy told me some horse**** story that he was updating and couldn't help me, gave me a bull**** number and I never got another human to talk to. I have NO idea how to fix this problem, but the charges are coming off a visa that contains the account for my child support...this is not good for me.
Scam/Fraud
I purchased a used CD at a local FYE store and paid with my debit card. The clerk informed me that since I used my debit card I was entitled to 3 magazines for 3 months free. I told him no thanks, but he bugged the crap out of me saying they were free and what did I have to loose that I said ok. He gave me a form to pick the "free" magazines from and after I got out of the store I notice on the bottom of my CD recipt that the mags were free for the first 3 months and that you needed to cancell the subscription before the 3 months were up or else it would be charged to your card. I went back into the store and told the clerk to remove the subscriptions and he said he could not and that I would have to cancell it when I got my frist free magazine. I never got the free magazines but I sure got the charges. $24.50 each. There is a phone number on your bank statement but it is strictly automated and according to it they have no record of any account for me. I really would love to know how to get my money back but most important how to avoid them renewing again. This really makes me mad becuase I have yet to see any magazine. I do believes this falls under fraud. Needless to say I will never shop at FYE.
I was checking the balance on my seldom used checking account to make sure I had enough in it to pay for an Ebay purchase, and for the 3rd time within a year, these people have charged me for renewal of magazine subscriptions that I did not renew. After having to call and go through the 15 minutes of recorded prompting, I finally pressed the "O" twice on my phoone number pad and got a person to talk to. (I read somewhere to try that to get out of many selections given from a phone prompt. I only had to state my situation and they said my money will be refunded, and I told them I want anything pertaining to my name and address removed from their computer. The money has always been given back to me, but as I said, I hardly use this checking account so I keep the balance pretty low. Then the TWX request for payment is deducted, putting me into an overdrawn situation. My bank must be used to this unscrupulous company, they always remove any charges incurred by these idiots. They have reported many times to the BBB, but I fail to see how they stay in business.

saw the charge "VISA - TWX*INSTYLE MAG SU $34.95" show up on my debit card. Same scam my wife bought something at Ulta and they jammed this subscription. I saw it and called my bank to get the phone number for the charging party - was given [protected]. I called the number and they quickly located the subscription and cancelled it, they assured me they would delete my acct info and refund the entire amount in the next 5 to 7 days ( we'll see how that works) hopefully they will follow through.
I have two charges that I didnt authorize to my knowledge! one for 58.50 and one for 10. They are supposed to be putting it back in my account by tomorrow!
I also got scammed by the Magazine Service Center via ULTA. They got me for 2 renewals, so $60.00! I called magazine service center's customer service line at [protected] and was told that the agent's computer was down, but she promised she'd cancel and refund my money! I'll believe that when I see it! I plan to call them everyday until I get a satisfactory outcome. I also called to report MSC and ULTA to the Federal Trade Commission [protected]) and the BBB. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else anymore!

I don't think it's a scam except for the part of hitting your credit card automatically. The salesclerk at Ulta told me it would not happen. I spoke to customer service at the magazine and she was happy to cancel. Now I will wait and see how long it takes for the amount to be refunded.

I got scammed to by Ulta/mag and I called and reported it to the Federal Trade Commission office [protected]) All of you guys need to call and report it! so they can do what they need to do to fix problem... I had charges on my account from this retailer but it was very easy to get the mags canceled and the charges refunded. Phone number [protected]. Getting to a real person takes awhile (keep pressing # or 0) but once you get through, just decline all other offers (unless you really want them) and get your refund. Simple...
More of the same here. Had a strange charge on my credit card yesterday 3/23/2011. I did buy a years subscription as a gift for a friend, but only one year. I was never contacted to renew and since it was a gift I'm sure I would not have signed up for auto renew. DO NOT buy from this company. Now I have to deal with fighting the charge.
