I'm sorry I've taken so long to write. I have a suggestion that might benefit and store and also your customers.
Last Sunday I was at Dollar Tree Store #1924 on Lincoln in Anaheim. After I paid for my purchase, I picked up one of my bags, and unfortunately, it was so heavy, I dropped the bag and the all of the bottled drinks not only spilled out, but landed on my toes. I screamed bloody murder. Fortunately the store manager heard me and asked if I was all right. I said no. I limped to the bench behind me so I could take care of my foot. It was throbbing and the skin broke. There was a lump forming and it was starting to bruise.
I asked for my ice and she said there was none available. Also she said she was sorry but there was no first aid kit available either. I was quite surprised. Was I the only customer ever in a Dollar Tree Store that had ever been injured in all these years that there was no need for a first aid kit. She did offer to call the paramedics. I felt that if I just got home to put ice on it, it would be enough. My toe was not smashed and thought it would be all right. Since I had several bags, she said I could make several trips back and forth and I looked at her with probably a dumb look in my face. I said I was parked in one of the handicap spaces and that many trips with my limp was not feasible. She said she would take out the bags for me, for which I was grateful.
I am a senior citizen and I'm glad it wasn't worse. Maybe I was partly to blame to not tell the clerk to not overload my bags. But it might have been helpful if she noticed that I was not a youngster and maybe I shouldn't be carrying too many heavy things in one bag. It's hard enough we can't take the carts out, and I understand the reasoning behind it. I noticed there was only the clerk and the manager but maybe a clerk could offer to help take out the bags for an elderly person. They didn't know I was in a handicap spot, but using the cart would have been helpful also.
I guess if the injury were a lot more damaging, yes, the paramedics should have been called. But for minor (or not so minor) incidences a first aid kit should be available.
Thank you for listening to my complaint.
I didn't think about taking a picture until this morning. There is still a bit of a bruise left and still a small bump.
