Jack In The Box - choking on your breakfast jack and poor customer service

I ordered 6 Breakfast Jacks + more, 1 breakfast burrito, and orange juice for my family on Sunday, December 29th, 2019. We're typically McDonald's customers but recently switched to Jack in the Box because of the better value/cost.

All was fine until we found that one of the Breakfast Jacks had at least half or more of ane eggshell cooked into it which was very unpleasant and disturbing, not to mention a choking hazard. Our nice morning was interrupted upon our discovery and I had to return to the store to report the issue and ask for a full refund. By this point, the only thing that would make a difference would be a full refund on my entire order as my thoughts began to take over... "Was this a prank?"

The more I thought about my son spitting out the sandwich, the more I realized the danger it would have caused for anyone of us, an elderly, child, or someone who might have difficulty swallowing or chewing. Not to mention my son who was highly disturbed by his mouthful of eggs, bread, sausage, and eggshell with every bite. Not a fun surprise at all.

I would assume that the manager of the establishment would be empathetic and run to my assistance to do whatever possible to make things right... To my dismay, there was NO apology or any sign of empathy given except a bargain offer to reimburse for the eggshell sandwich as if that was enough to make up for the trouble this caused me and my family to have to go and settle this disturbing inconvenience. And who knew if we were to find more eggshells in the other items? Isn't the one sandwich bad enough?

As I requested, the reluctant and cold manager reimbursed the whole order which totaled around $19. Her lack of kindness was uncomfortable and she acted "obliged" to settle the problem. All the while standing behind her was the unapologetic cook recalling that he "scraped away a small piece of eggshell" from the egg while he was cooking it and confirming the order of 6 Breakfast Jacks along with a breakfast burrito. He then continued to whisper to his co-worker that it was just a "small" piece of shell insinuating that I was completely exaggerating and overreacting. This made me upset to have 3 service workers looking at me like I was wrong and they were in the right.

I corrected the cook by stating that there was almost a full eggshell in the sandwich and that my family had to stop eating while one of our family members was practically choking and spitting out his sandwich after trying several bites coming to the conclusion that it there was so much eggshell uneatable and nauseating. By the way, this isn't about "one small piece of eggshell" the problem has now evolved into horrible customer service.

I would only hope that Jack in the Box employees would be held to a higher standard of work ethic and pride itself in optimum customer service in addition to serving quality safe food. The cook's mistake (or prank) is in itself serious, not to mention not being treated as a valued customer is a good reason for my family to stop patronizing your fast-food chain. We travel a lot and have many mouths to feed not to mention friends and other families to whom we will share our story. To lose our business is significant and I hope you would agree since losing business in a competitive market of fast-food chains is something most would want to avoid.

On another note, my very first job back in the 1970s was at Jack in the Box in Northern California. The training in optimal customer service was a major point that was drilled into new employees. "The customer is always right" and to give a high priority to customer satisfaction is a great business practice for all generations then and now. We all deserve in order to keep moving forward and making the workplace and world a better place. Don't you think?

Please improve your customer service at this Buellton store and while you're at it check out all the poor reviews on YELP about the Buellton store. If it's important enough to YOU to keep your doors open, and before it's too late because of the lack of attention to what's important to sustain a thriving business, Take care of YOUR CUSTOMERS well and please pay attention to what I've written since I care enough to contact you.
