Well that awful policy is alive and well. My 88 year old mother has been shopping there for many years. She mostly buys items and takes them home to try on. She then keeps items and returns what she doesn't want. The place where she lives provided transportation to/from the mall where the store is. So the amount of shopping time is limited. Again let me stress we are talking about an 88 year old woman with poor eyesight.
Now for the story - she returned items last week at the steinmart in boca raton on glades rd as she has done in the past. She then proceeds to purchase a couple of items she saw for me (her 61 year old daughter) quickly so she can make her transportation pickup. I come to visit and I take her to return those items as they did not fit. We we told we could not return them as she reached her limit of returns. They were rude and referred her to a "transaction" policy slip that printed out when this return was rejected. I could barely read the print out let alone my mom! This policy was never verbally explained to her when she got the "return warning" with her prior return the day before. Which she was unaware of - rude and dismissive associate at the register and manager. Their attitude was "don't shoot the messenger. We don't make the policy and we cannot override the system". Basically we are left with going thru a third party to make our case to see if they will override and let her return the items and get the credit put back on her credit card.
My mother is outraged and mad as hell! She has had a few sleepless nights over this - I am serious about that! I will attempt to follow through but based on this policy don't expect any positive result. Steinmart will be off the list of stores to shop at. I think the better business bureau should look into this or other agency. I will post the outcome so fellow steinmart shoppers are informed. Shameful!
