STAY AWAY! Booked a car thru Hotwire "Hot Rate". My credit card company covers my rental insurance on every rental. I was advised by the agent that wasn't acceptable. They needed me to send my personal auto insurance policy declaration page to them which I did. When they received it - they said I didn't have enough coverage - I needed $500,000.00 coverage. I rent cars all over the world from many different companies and have never heard of such a thing. I asked the agent about this practice and where this was disclosed. I was told that this was not disclosed if I booked thru Hotwire hot rates. I was forced to buy their insurance or not rent a car. After hours of arguing, I just agreed to pay it and go. I couldn't fight anymore. I rented the car for 4 - 24 hour rental days but they required me to pay for 5 days of their "SCAM" insurance. I am disputing this with my credit card company. I work in the travel industry and this is the biggest scam I have ever experienced in my travels. STAY AWAY! Total ripoff!
Desired outcome: A full refund and the company needs to change their practice or go out of business
NU Car Rentals - Fraudulent practices in Miami
Hello NU Management Team,
I normally would not write a letter about a company but my experience in Miami with NU Car Rental was pretty horrifying. I was not the only one. I have learned that the company also goes by HorsPower Car Rental but NU is on the building and on the web. I felt your cooperate headquarters needed to know and I hope you take the time to look up reviews on this company using your name on google reviews and yep.
The Miami-based NU Horspower Car Rental is not a legitimate company (a Shady operation that stole my money). It is located in a back alley about a mile from the Miami car rental center. After paying in full online, they charge an "extra" $250 after arriving before letting you pick up your car and $350 upfront security deposit which I hope I get back.
The scheme they use is, you need to provide them with proof of insurance with coverage of at least 500K coverage. I happened to carry 500k insurance on my car. When they look at your coverage, (most people had to contact insurance companies that took hours), it was not good enough. They told me that their policy was that I also needed to have an umbrella policy and you had to buy it from them.
I asked for a refund, and they told me they do not give refunds. They would not even let me talk to a manager. Everyone that came in was there for hours and very upset. If you were a minority, they also charge an extra security deposit and say "too bad" if you can not pay. I watched this unfold as I waited in lime and could not believe my eyes. I only had to pay $350 for the security deposit for the short time I had the car. They ran my card and made me sign the receipt. I hope they don't steal that from me too. I watched people who were not white pay upwards of $500 in advance for their security deposit with the same amount of days I had rented. I could not believe my eyes. They were rude and have most people over a barrel.
I wanted you to know that I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and challenge the charges with my credit card company. I also wrote a bad review. They screw everyone, but you get it worse if you are not white. Since your name is one the company and used to advertise, I wanted you to know. Check out Google reviews and yelp. I am sure you will find this as disturbing as I did as your name is attached to this business.
Thanks for your time.
Jeff
Desired outcome: I would like a full refund
