I worked at a Ross store in Kaneohe started March of 2018, tiniest one in HAWAII I liked it. I was listening to Marla one of the managers and she was saying management material can miss 1 day a year so I missed none for a year. 6 months into that year I was diagnosed w a kidney stone that will eventually need to be removed, itold my boss Nancy and asked for full time. it being a tiny store no full time positions. I needed insurance because my goal at the time was to get off of welfare so I had no insurance. my husband just started his job too. Nancy came up to me and asked if I wanted to move to the Windward Mall it was a brand new store I would be one of the first to get full time BIG store., mean time the whole year not one review not one cent more than the 12 $ I was hired at. mind you I thought that was an excellent starting rate. so in around the beginning of 2019 I was transferred. Chesere a Philippine that I was told to check in with to get my reviews and raises I missed out on at the first store. its my first job I didn't know you had to ask for them!? she was nowhere to be found for the first 4 months we had make shift TEAM leaders and other store managers checking in on us. mean time never missing a day nor late still I got ahold of Chesere told her my situation and asked her if she could do my direct deposit papers for ADP. She said yes she would get to the paperwork and to hold on a while longer and she would have a full time for me. As the months turned into a year Chesere gave full time positions to people coming in from other stores I thought they had full time already, they did so I waited. kept asking about my ADP paperwork I needed direct deposit. I wasn't able to get an answer out of her until she said she cant find the paperwork so I did it again gave it to her. Meanwhile I started to not have an appetite. still facing shoes, running z racks and fitting room and cashier when I thought this was a job with room for advancement? I lost 40 pounds. im 5' 11" I weighed in at 115 pounds im 155 normally. Everyone at work didnt know what to say or do. Marla even had a talk with her about it. it was too late to quit and get another job, I had put my trust in this company for too long. when my DR said I have less than two weeks before ill have to be rushed to the hospital and they will have to do the surgery by ambulance deaths door kind.
So I went to Chesere and said please im dying they will put it on pending if you will just give me full time. She then turned to me and said in that case I feel its not in the best interest of the company. My heart broke I loved ROSS its my first job. I went home told my husband we have to wait we both cried and I called my sister. She said in the event where a spouse loses their hrs in an emergency he can put me on his insurance, he went to work the next day dfid this and the hospital took the pending insurance of my husband/ Had the surgery came back she gave me full time and 14 cents for the two years I put in. meanwhile everyone was getting raises to stay there its a commutable for everyone. I was taking a two hr bus ride there and back every day 4 hrs extra everyday for free. A team leader Keith found my paperwork in the bottom of a drawer of a desk she doesn't use in a room ive never seen before. so finally my ADP was done. The bus ride was hard on my kidneys because they will never be the same. 1 of them probably wont make it through my lifetime because of this and I have a Dr that says so. I asked to transfer to the side of town where I live. Nancy worked there. She and Maria and Julian had me crying everyday. They bullied me all at once have witnesses, took them 4 more months to get me transferred. Before I left she brought me in that room I was talking about alone told me I had to sign/ this paper saying I give up my full time/ insurance and the 45 cent raise I had in order to be transferred. crying I signed. Then I went to my new store. Netta gave me 37 cents Nancy snuck me 28. Been working there for 6 months still didnt get taught returns like every one else, still facing shoes every samoan philipino gets pushed passed me, I asked this kid how much he was making he said 13$ he has been there 6 months, IM NOT MAKING THAT. I forgot to mention that I did have 1 day where I called in and that was at Chesere's store. I went to the job fair to go to the ROSS stand and apply for SPS... cant do that has to be within my store I told Neal a manager my situation and he told me to call 180093 ALERT. thats how I got transfered, Julian got sent to Vegas store, and the women are still at large. I got fired today for calling the hotline.
Desired outcome: Maria/Chesere/Kapanetta/need to be fired Delores is Kapanettas boss and is good friends w Chesere I watched them all eat and talk crap at lunch in the Mall, money for my kidneys
Ross Dress for Less - Manager
On January 1st 2021, we visited Ross Nimitz in Honolulu Hawaii. Upon this visit we were harassed about touching clothing yet everyone in the store was touching everything while sneezing & coughing into their hand.
A manager (dayna or daena) however you spell it approached us twice in less than 2 minutes & kept harassing us about touching the merchandise.
We already agreed to what she asked. & upon talking to her she rolled her eyes & walked away. No respect, no self control, no standards & also no signs were present upon entering the store that you cannot try on the merchandise. It was a petty move & an even more unpleasant visit. I always shop there & these workers make it uncomfortable to do so.
I do not recommend shopping here.
Desired outcome: Get new management
