I had a scheduled oil change at the Pleasant Hill IA location(store 304016)on my 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie on March 15, 2023. No issues with the truck prior to the oil change. Attached are the oil change work order and the recommendations given by the store after performing the oil change.
On Thursday, March 16, 2023, after driving it 20+/- miles, it started overheating and knocking. I contacted the store and they had it towed from our house to their shop. After inspecting it on Friday March 17th, 2023, they determined that the thermostat must have stuck in a closed position, which then caused the water pump to crack. I was skeptical that this happened within miles of the oil change, but I gave them the go ahead to replace the thermostat and water pump at a cost of $1400, providing there was no damage to the motor because of this. I did ask and was assured multiple times that this did not cause engine damage. The thermostat and water pump were replaced on Saturday March 18th, 2023, however, there was still knocking in the motor that they couldn’t diagnose. From Saturday March 18th, 2023, through Monday evening, March 20th, 2023, there had been no techs available to diagnose the knocking noise in the engine. During the days my truck was in their shop, I had no status updates. I ended up calling and stopping in to check on what was happening.
On Monday evening, March 20, 2023, I had another company tow it from Firestone to their shop for a diagnosis. By 10:00 am CST on Tuesday March 21, 2023, it had been diagnosed as having a severely damaged(blown)motor. Both the top half and bottom half are damaged to the point of needing a new or rebuilt motor. After speaking with the company that diagnosed the blown motor, and looking over the quote(attached)we were provided, it is our belief that the oil was never actually added after it was drained in preparation for the oil change, or not enough was added, and we drove it with little to no oil causing the overheating, cracked water pump, and blown motor. There is no other reasonable explanation for a perfectly sound motor to suddenly blow within 20+/- miles of an oil change.
My expectation, or resolution, is to be made whole by Firestone, which includes paying for, or reimbursing me, for the oil change and a rebuilt motor.
Desired outcome: My expectation, or resolution, is to be made whole by Firestone, which includes paying for, or reimbursing me, for the oil change and a rebuilt motor.
Firestone Complete Auto Care - Brakes 2008 mercury mariner
My grandson took his vehicle to firestone auto in pleasant hill iowa on sept 9th.2022. Its been 3 weeks now and still not done. They said it was the master cyclinder (which they replace 2 years ago) then they said that wasn't it and said it was the abs system. We have had the run around for 3 weeks now and still do not have the vehicle done and returned. We have called numerous times as they do not call us to keep us informed. I have even gone out in person to no avail. We need the vehicle back immediately. We have even told them we would tow it to someplace else if they couldn't figure it out we just want honesty. We have not gotten that. We are very disappointed in their ability to do the work in a timely fashion especially since this is his only vehicle. 2008 mercury mariner. They are letting this vehicle sit and sit without constant work to repair. If this is not fixed correctly and an accident occurs because of this, firestone will be held liable. I would request that someone contact the firestone auto in pleasant hill iowa to see if you can get them to move on this now.
Desired outcome: i want the car fixed and returned immediately. and a discount on price of repairs
