This review IS NOT for the Michigan Institute of Urology itself. It's for their Troy based HR Department. Please do something about the arrogant attitudes of the people running your HR Department and encourage them to treat others as equals and not as inferiors.
Your HR Manager Nina left me with the HORRIBLE impression that your institute is run by intolerant overly critical and irrational human beings who treat potential candidates as if they are beneath them. At least that's what Nina presented herself to be over the phone. Instead of looking for the right candidate she seems to be weeding out the "undesirables" SHE does not like personally due to their past & long forgotten job history or how long they have been out of work. I find this practice unspeakably discriminatory and intolerably unacceptable.
I received a call from her after submitting an online resume a few weeks ago. She let me know she needed to ask a few questions over the phone. Things started out smoothly. However, the interview took a turn for the worse when she inquired about being let go from one of my past jobs. I was very upfront about why I was terminated but did not become defensive with my explanation, speak ill of my former employer or even point fingers at anyone. I am painfully aware that all these traits are perceived to be highly unprofessional during an interview and I would never ruin my own chances to obtain desired employment in this manner.
However, my honest but efficient response proved to be unsatisfactory in her eyes for some odd reason. She began to belittle my character immediately saying "Oh, so everyone ELSE is wrong and you're right?"
I was thoroughly confused as to where she conceived such an asinine notion considering that I never so much as implied any such far fetched nonsense. The lines became blurred for me at this point in the conversation and I found it difficult to distinguish if she was merely following HR protocol or projecting her everyday vile hostile persona by being overly picky, socially prejudice and intentionally condescending.
The odd thing about it is that she was not referring to my MOST RECENT job but to another job I had two years prior. I was reduced to tears by the time I got off the phone with her. It was truly THE WORST and most upsetting experience I have ever had with ANY interviewer.
Unfortunately, this young woman is the face and voice of your ENTIRE organization. She IS the first impression of what future employees will perceive your entire institution to be. I can only assume that whatever values the HR Department presents are a direct reflection of the thoughts, attitudes and beliefs of The Michigan Institute of Urology. I think it's disgraceful to allow ANYONE this biased and bigoted to represent the values you uphold so dearly as a medical institute.
Please remind your HR Department that the way THEY treat, judge and speak to and about future and potential employees is EQUALLY as important as how future and potential employees treat your organization as a whole. Common courtesy, respect and professionalism goes both ways. My only intention was to obtain employment in a field I knew I could be efficient in, not be utterly humiliated and denigrated as a person by the HR Department.
