Why is a Choice Home Warranty a bad mistake? Because the ony way you can even hope they will honor what they profess to cover is to spend several hundred dollars more each year in addition to their contract fee or $450-500.
Like so many others I recently learned the hard way. They glibly refer to section 9.1.2 in their contract and this is the loophole they use to avoid having to fix or replace anything. Briefly, you must have professional service people come in yearly to perform "maintenance" for each appliance or system in your home, and you had better keep those bills for 5 years or they will not honor the contract. Heck, the IRS only asks for three years of records! Assuming a home had a heating system, AC, a hot water heater, appliances, etc., you are being forced to spend money on each one of these items. That can add up to $500, $600, $700 per year in addition to their fee. So now that contract is truly costing you$950-$1150 per year. If you were to simply put that money in a savings account for two years you would have more than enough to pay for a new system for almost anything that breaks in your house.
So, bottom line, how does a Choice Home Warranty make economic sense? IT DOESN'T.
Oh, one other item. My problem was a hot water heater that started to leak. I had been with American Home Shield for three years, as was my neighbor. He had a similar problem last year and they came in and gave him a brand new water heater. My mistake was that I decided to switch over to Choice and they denied my claim. I will NEVER buy another one of these contracts from Choice and neither should anyone else. Put them out of business.

Choice Home Warranty - will not repair covered item
I have a policy with company and they denied service even though it is covered under my policy. Multiple phone calls and lack of explanation of why this was declined except for "it isn't covered". I have a "Total" package coverage and the ice maker on the refrigerator wasn't covered. $285 to repair at my cost even though I pay monthly for service.

I did my due diligence as well. I agree. There wasn't anything back then. My guess is that September or so of last year, is when they jumped on the scene...I have seen indications that they may be another scam with a new name.
I looked everywhere on the internet regarding Choice Home Warranty back in September 2008 to see if they company was legit. I didnt find anything. Now, after purchasing the warranty there are negative comments everywhere. I wish they had been there last year and I definately would have never purchased anything from them.
Yes - this company is a scam. If it isn't too late, get the money back through your credit card company. I have a group that I have invited you to join.
Choice Home Warranty - company will not honor contract
In October I purchased a home warranty to cover my heating system over the phone. The company charged my credit card immediately and I received a contract in the mail but it had no contrat number on it. The guy on the phone stated that the contract would start 30 days later. The expiration date was listed as 11/27/2009.
Last Saturday both of my circulators on my boiler stopped working. It was 4 degrees out and I had no heat. I made several phone calls and sent emails via their website and through my own email. No one called me all weekend. Finally on Tuesday a repair person called me. He was dispached earlier that day. He came out on Friday morning and looked at my system and filed a report for repairs. He just called me on Monday night to tell me the company will not cover any repairs. WTF. Luckily I poked and prodded until I got the pump working again or I would have had no heat all week. I am disgusted with this company. The people on the phone were rude and didn't understand that I had no heat all weekend. I want my money back or I want them to fix my heat. I will never use this company again. Please beware. They will promise you anything and not deliver. BEWARE!
Cannot get them to repair or replace my furnace, it's been ten days with no heat and CHW keeps making excuses for the delay in repairs
i put a claim in for a hot water line leak in my master bathroom ceiling on nov 31, i have not received any information about who's coming, when and what time at this point i am canceling my contract today. my policy # is [protected].i have tried calling choice office but to no avail.
I cancelled because they never replied and they've no customer service. They kept promising to send me info on my claim with a techs info and never did. We called 3 times and they never contacted us by email or phone about techs info to set an appointment. If our repair was serious you'd be out of luck, they're a PITA pain in the [censored].
we were scheduled to have someone to come for repairs today but no one showed up. I tried to contact the person scheduled but the phone number was bad. Very frustrating. They were supposed to come on Oct. 4 between 3 ocloc and 8oclock but none showed up.
A tec came out to my home, and tolded me what I would need to fix my central air. Now Choice doesn't want to pay. They said I need to pay for the labor and parts to fix my unit. The labor is $1120 and the parts are over $800.
DO NOT BUY A POLICY FROM CHOICE, THEY ARE A RIP OFF RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AS FAST AS YOU CAN
They scammed me out of 2 months of AUTHORIZED and COMPLETED work. Now won't pay me because my account is "on hold" for a [censored] reason. DO NOT DO WORK FOR THEM THEY WILL [censored] YOU OVER.
I purchased additional pool service and spa coverage with Choice and after 2 pool companies did an assessment, both indicated the filter needed to be replaced. Choice on the initial review is failing to comply with the recommendation and I'm having to appeal with a CHW Manager. They only allow appeals and no phone contact with a Manager. Rip-off!

Have had Choice Home Warranty for 6 months and have tried to file my first claim. My dishwasher wasnt working properly. The service tech they had me call didnt even have a contract with them. I guess they talked them into it because they did end up coming out and servicing the unit. Now the company is waiting for authorization to complete the project. The parts cost $115.97 and the company can not get in touch with Choice Home Warranty to get authoriztion. I have already paid over $275 to them for a Warranty that doesnt seem to exist. The company has been closed for two days now, hope they decide to reopen so that I can let them know to cancel my contract and refund my money. I would rather pay the company for the parts than Choice Home Warranty.
