Below is an email which I sent to Mr. Ohlsson, CEO of IKEA where I purchased a kitchen appliance vent range fan extractor, for over the stove. This fan unit was manufactured by Whirlpool under the name Luftig and arrived without the parts bag and the motor/fan was hanging by wires inside the unit due to lack of screws.
Also below is an email I sent to Mr. Fettig, CEO of Whirlpool. Whirlpool is not the company they were and thus the name no longer denotes the quality they once had.
Buyers beware, the hassles simply are not worth it. IKEA needs to review the manufacturers they carry and IKEA should always disclose the actual manufacturer they sell along with the manufacturer's terms at the point of sale.
Mr. Mikael Ohlsson
CEO/Chairman
IKEA Corpation
Dear Mr. Ohlsson,
Below is an email letter which I sent Mr. Fettig at Whirlpool regarding an order
I made with IKEA,
[protected] where a parts bag was not included in the box when our contractor
opened it today to install it. Also, the fan/motor was unattached to the unit
and was hanging by the wires in the unit where two screws appear missing in this
assembly in order to hold it to the frame.
When I purchased this product from your company IKEA, it was referred to as a
Luftig Extractor Fan. But when I encountered a problem out of the box you will
see that from the manufacturer Whirlpool's perspective, their perspective in
resolving the concern was complicated and cumbersome with delays approaching one
week. Although IKEA offered to reimburse me the charges that Whirlpool is
levying to correct the missing parts bag and screws, this does not change the
fact that IKEA does not tell a customer these terms at the point of purchase.
Putting another name on a manufacturer's products, while a manufacturer has
their own terms which are not conveyed anywhere, anywhere, not on the website
where I purchased the product, not in the IKEA booklet with the product, not on
the box when it arrived, is not reasonable.
It takes away from the quality of products you, IKEA offer and deserves your
company's review.
Sincerely yours,
Joseph E. Bush

Dear Mr. Fettig,
I grew up with your products but have found in recent years that your products,
your company other than the name, are not the same. I have contacted IKEA,
where I made the purchase and they said to have you send the parts which were
not included and that IKEA will reimburse me the charge that you are including.
This is for a kitchen extractor fan IH3402YS0, Serial Number XH21506109
purchased on-line July 28th which our contractor who is doing our kitchen
remodel went to install today. The parts package mentioned in the booklet was
not included other than the 7" round mounting plate. Also,
the fan/motor assembly was hanging in the unit, unattached. Unless the two
screws mentioned in the parts package are for this then these two screws were
not included.
I called the number in the booklet, which turns out to be a Whirlpool number for
IKEA Customers and your representatives said that I must pay for these parts.
Your representatives Ms. Nicole Thomas in Tennessee and Nancy in Benton both
mention that this it is written in the IKEA Warranty which is included with the
extractor. IKEA was not aware of this. The printed IKEA Warranty does not
mention this and neither Ms. Thomas nor Nancy could find where this is
mentioned.
I called IKEA, they were surprised and unaware of your policy outside of their
own policy and advised that I call you back and have you send the parts and that
IKEA will reimburse me for these.
When I called back to do this your representatives Nancy, then Ms. Nicole Thomas
said that since I do not have parts numbers, that they will have to research the
parts and get back with me next week. Ms. Thomas said that if I could provide
the part numbers that would take care of the hold up. I asked where I would
find the parts numbers and she did not know. Your representatives had the same
booklet that I had.
When I bought this product it was represented as a Luftig Fan from IKEA.
IKEA should not represent its products as one thing, when it arrives it becomes
something else altogether in a box that states made in Mexico, where your
quality control people were not doing there job that day. And when you call
even the company which provides this to IKEA does not know
without researching what parts came in the box.
Your company, Whirlpool does not represent IKEA well.
Sincerely yours,
Joseph Bush

I received a call from Whirlpool today and they said that the missing parts bag not included with the Ikea Kitchen Extractor Fan will be sent, which will resolve the above mentioned concern.
I have gradually ordered bigger and more expensive appliances on the internet. This experience though finally resolved makes me think that there are probably certain items, even items manufactured in other countries where it is not worth the manufacturer's time and expense to correct quality control issues. Thus, it is probably better, safer to not buy those types of items over the internet as you lose the interest and follow-through that any bricks and mortar retailer offers.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
