On the Evening of 10/24/19 I went into the Supercuts in Lincoln RI to get my hair color done. I stated 2-3 times that i am really self-conscious about hair dye getting on my skin as the color is very dark.
She promised me that this will not be an issue and that it will come off.
After the hair color, the hairdresser was applying something to remove the dark color, from my skin. She applied a lot, at first I thought it was just soap or something but the manager stated that this liquid was a chemical. Did not know this.
As she was trying to remove the color, she asked if she could wipe harder. I was laying at the sink with no mirror and I didn't feel any pain so I said, yes. Again, please note at this time in the evening I did not know that this was a chemical solution being applied in heavy amounts to my skin. She rubbed my face over and over again with a towel.
My face, neck and ears were covered in black hair dye that was not coming off my skin easily. Even though I mentioned how I dislike color on the inside of my ears, the color was all over the crevasses of my ears, neck, behind my ears and forehead. Very sloppy job. All this time, the manager of the store was observing, not saying anything to the hair dresser working on me.
The Manager's name was Melissa, she would not give me her last name and she refused to give me her higher level managers name. She then stated to the hair dresser working on me that she noticed her getting way too much dye on my skin and that she should have wiped off the extra dye right away, not wait until the hair washing to remove it.
Then the Melissa the manager stated that "Well, you wanted her to rub harder" because I ended up getting 2 burns and abrasions on my face. Please refer to the pictures submitted. The manager then took pictures of my face and stated that this is to cover their butts. I was appalled. And not for nothing, sometimes burns and their damage does not show up until hours later. you will see the day 2 pictures and day 1 pictures.
The reason why I was getting my hair done is because the following day, 10/25/19 I had a very important event where many photos will be taken. I explained this to the manager and she said that its not a problem and that I should wear my hair down to cover the burn mark. Again, this appalled me.
The hairdresser asked if I wanted my hair combed, I politely said no thank you.
I go to pay and was so incredibly upset almost to tears but not crying. Just so upset that this happened to me. The manager said that she could not give me a discount. I told her very politely that I was not looking for a discount. I politely asked her for her manager's name and she refused to give me the name and number. And Then proceeded to in a hot tempered way say that they (the supercuts staff) are not allowed to give higher manager numbers for complaints.
Then in also a hot tempered way stated that I was over-reacting. That I would let the hair dresser even comb my hair. I replied that if they really wanted to comb my hair they can if that's what they want to do. I was very very calm in all of my responses (soft tone, but visibly upset with my facial expressions). The Hairdresser was also very calm, the Manager Michelle, not so professional, kind or good to customers. And, not helpful at all.
Their service burned my face pretty bad, I couldn't sleep all night, very sore and it's very, very noticable.
The next day at work, everyone was in shock about my face and asked me what happened. Despite wearing makeup trying to cover it up and trying to hide it with my hair.
I went to my occupational health office where they measured the burns on my face. I will have to submit another complaint after this one to attach the images when they are ready and forward the report. The nurse was also in shock at the damage my face had. the prescribed me some ointment, Bacitracin Zinc ointment. She also stated that if I start to get bumps on my face I will have to be prescribed an antibiotic.
Please know I did not at all touch the affected area all night or this morning because I do not want to make this look any worse as tonight is a huge night for our family. Like mentioned above it is my son's senior night and he is the captain of the football team. The local paper will be there and there will be many many photos of our family taken. I am trying to use the ointment to make this look better but there is so much damage to try to cover up, this is a very very bad situation. All of my co-workers, husband, and occupational nurse all agree that this is a serious situation that your organization is responsible for.
