They billed me $162.41 on 4/12 for auto renewal even though I did not want this and have not used the site for a long time. I contacted them today, and they said they can cancel auto-renew subscription (which I did not know I even had) but they cannot refund me the $162.41 that they charged on 4/10 and if they look at my records, until today (when I tried to get a refund), I have not been on the site.
Desired outcome: I would like a full refund
Ancestry - Auto-renewal
I signed up for a temporary subscription in November 2019. I thought I had cancelled it two weeks later, but I must have not clicked the correct box. I am not sure, but after officially cancelling the subscription today, May 2021, I can say there are multiple pages that are confusing and encourage you to accidentally keep your subscription. The credit card I had on file expired in a month in the fall 2020, but my card has been billed for months afterwards. I checked the card on file before I cancelled and saw they had auto-updated the billing expiration date to two years after the expired one. I even have an email in December 2020 that says they had trouble collecting funds, but my bank statement shows they were able to get the $19.99 subscription fee. Although my card expired, they were still able to bill and collect the payment each month. I called customer support, but they said their company does not do this and accused me of updating the information. This was after they stated there is sometimes a grace period with a credit card where they can bill after a card expires. I know I did not update the account because I did not know it was still active for that long. There was zero resolution, zero apology or offer of a refund for those months post expiration date. I want to file this complaint to let people know that this is a real issue companies do, and that they still keep your money. I will never use this site again because it is set up to auto bill people long after they forget about the service.
Desired outcome: Refund for the months of billing on an expired credit card
