AutoZone - Alternator

Purchased alternator on 11/24/2023 from AutoZone Store #3725 in Lake Stevens, WA after AutoZone tested the existing alternator and recommended replacement. This was for my son's Mitsubishi Outlander while he was in town (in Western WA) from school.

We had it installed locally with no issue.

A few days later, about halfway back to school in Pullman, WA (Eastern WA), the alternator was malfunctioning. My son drove it into the AutoZone in Ellensburg, WA (#3728) where they tested and confirmed the alternator was bad. Unfortunately, I do not have those test results on hand. That store advised him he could make it to Pullman (he needed to be there to resume school) and to have it fixed there.

In Pullman, he took the vehicle to Jerry's Auto Repair. They also tested the alternator and determined it was bad (test results attached). They worked with AutoZone Store #4140 to exchange it for no additional cost, but had to then install it, for which we were charged. The vehicle has been running well ever since.

This need for this second installation was the direct result of the faulty first alternator sold to me by AutoZone. That the vehicle was 250 miles away left me no choice but to hire out the work. Therefore, I am seeking reimbursement for this cost (a reasonable charge for the work completed).

Richard (Commercial Manager) from AutoZone Store #4140 confirmed he has a record of the faulty unit being returned, however having been a few weeks since, that store no longer has the faulty unit physically on hand. I do not believe this should be a disqualifier for fair reimbursement as there are adequate records proving the alternator was faulty and that it was returned.

Autozone has to date not allowed/denied a claim for reimbursement of this second installation stating that they need the original part before they can do so.

Claimed loss: $334.64 for a second installation/replacement of an alternator caused by the fact that the original alternator sold to me was defective.

Desired outcome: Reimbursement of the $334.64 installation charge.
