Fraudulently re-billing customers for previously-documented items in flexible spending account
Warning to wageworks customers: wageworks conveniently goes back and invalidates for re-review, flexible spending account items that were done months ago (eg. Beginning of the year), even if they were previously documented and settled.
In doing so, they then proceed to request payment for the disputed amount, probably in the hopes that the employee does not anymore have copies of the receipts.
*unfortunately for wageworks, I digitize everything, so fetching the receipts from 9 months age are not an issue*
In my specific case, the amount was for an ambulance fee for a well-known hospit
IN MY SPECIFIC CASE, THE AMOUNT WAS FOR AN AMBULANCE FEE FOR A WELL-KNOWN HOSPITAL IN THE NY/NJ AREA. IT WAS TOTALLY LEGIT. AND SETTLED MONTHS AGO.
DO A GOOGLE FOR:
"WAGEWORKS COMPLAINTS",
"WAGEWORKS INCOMPETENT",
"WAGEWORKS FRAUDULENT" AND YOU'LL SEE TONS OF CASES.
WHAT GOVERNMENT AGENCY SHOULD I REPORT WAGEWORKS TO? I'M SURE THAT MY CASE AND THE HORROR STORIES THAT I FIND ON THE WEB ARE JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG.

Incorrect social security number
3 months I have been dealing with the issue that Wageworks (COBRA) transposed my social security number incorrectly to CIGNA (my carrier) and all the claims from my daughters birth were recalled. It was stated that I did not have medical coverage with Cigna. I have contacted Wageworks 4 times to have them fax my correct SSN to Cigna, So Cigna could correct this mistake and re-contact all my insurance claims. Every time I talked to Wageworks they reassured me that they had the correct number, but they would send an URGENT fax to Cigna and notify them anyway. 3 hard months later...Wagework has been faxing the incorrect SSN every time. Now, my insurance claims have gone to collections! So my credit score is messed up because no one did their job. I am mortified by the lack of follow-up that has occured. For the record this still has not be corrected.

Social security collection department over collected an overpayment on my taxes and they won't give the remainder back to me. I've called them repeatedly over the last 6 months and I have paperwork stating that they were only suppose to take a "certain" amount, they can't find my money and they're making no efforts to do so.
I would like an attorney (can't afford no money down) to sue them for my due money, lawyer costs, and as much extra that I can get for the hassle and ignorance that they've shown me.
Any takers, I have all the proof I need and it's open and shut case. Easy money...

I had the same problem, only it was my husband's date of birth that they entered incorrectly. It took three months of calling, emailing & total aggravation to finally get it straightened out. Cigna tried to get it resolved for us but it was on Wageworks' end where the problem was. So, because of their incompetence, we had to do without coverage even though we paid for it. Their attitude was "too bad so sad" when I told them that I either wanted a credit for those three months, or to extend our coverage three more months. Then they had the gall to cancel us for one missed payment (we didn't realize that it wasn't paid). They wouldn't even work with us, even after explaining that, due to my husband's illness, medical coverage is something we can't do without. I have never encountered a worse company. Their correspondence that they mailed was always dated 3 weeks to a month earlier than when it was mailed! Terrible company. :(
Inconsiderate, unwilling to help
I lost my job this past March. As a result, I also lost my health insurance. So, I opted to participate in COBRA and mailed my forms quickly to Wage Works so as not to miss the deadline. And then I never heard from them. I'd never had to do this before, so I wasn't sure how long the approval process took. It's partly my fault for not calling to check the status, but the fact remains I never got notification that my paperwork was received and that I was approved for coverage. I never received a payment booklet either, listing how much my benefits would cost me each month. So imagine my surprise when I did get a letter in the mail telling me I'd missed a 45 day payment window & I was no longer covered under their program.
I called WageWorks and spoke to a very rude representative who dismissed my concerns by coldly telling me he had records of the company mailing me forms & payment coupons. Now, don't you think if I'd gotten those, I would have sent in my payments? I check my mail daily & never once saw any of the mailings this man told me were sent. So I spoke to someone else, and explained what happened. She told me to fax a letter asking for reinstatement, explaining that I didn't receive the paperwork that was allegedly mailed to me. I wrote the letter and faxed it. I called to check the status, and was told that I was denied because I missed the payment window. They again cited that they allegedly sent me the payment coupons in the mail and I never returned payment.
This is unacceptable to me. I never received what they claimed to have sent me, and now I'm being punished. Unacceptable. I'm now uninsured and have no job. You know what they told me I had for an option? Getting private insurance for myself. The whole point of electing COBRA was to get HELP with my insurance coverage because I'm unemployed and can't afford private coverage.
WageWorks has done nothing to try & help this situation. They just sit smugly in front of their computer screens, listing off what was allegedly mailed to me. It doesn't matter to them that I never got it. Things DO get lost in the mail.
I'm a responsible, tax-paying American that has been screwed by a technicality and I don't appreciate that at all. I've been uninsured now for over 4 months. I just don't understand why WageWorks is so stubborn and won't admit that maybe, possibly something went wrong and their forms never made it to my mailbox. All my other bills arrive on time! But for some reason, WageWorks forms seems to disappear.

I have a monthly commuter order where WageWorks takes pretax money to buy and transfer to a Caltrain monthly pass onto my ClipperCard. This month I receive an email that they are adding an unannounced $2 fee that requires me to reaccept terms, and that my current order has been changed without my authorization, so my service will not be interrupted?!with my money going to a WageWorks debit card, not my ClipperCard. If I want to go back to my previous order, I am supposed to login to my account, but there are no proper instructions.
Bottom line is I believe it is against California Consumer Law to modify such an order involving wage deductions and the instrument to which they are applied without my approval first.
When I wrote my email expressing my level of upset, I get an automated response. Complete Customer Service Fail.

Dear WageWorks Participant,
The security of your personal information is of the utmost importance to us here at WageWorks. Generally, email is not a secure form of communication. Because your request concerns your personal information, HIPAA and other regulations prohibit us from answering your inquiry or provide assistance to the issue via email due to the openness.
Of course you are going to say that you didn't get the forms. You are unemployed. Did you ever think that your last employer laid you off because you were not intelligent enough to follow the process let alone the law.
Get off your fat [censor], turn off the tv, throw away that big mac and get out and get a job.
It's people like you that are destroying America.
Life would be easier if you committed a crime so you could be taken care of in prison.
Wageworks admitted to me that they never sent any forms. I'm just supposed to know why my card stopped working and pay my current bill out of pocket. They also said they don't have any liability to reactivate it before the remaining funds expire because I should have been aware of their forms before they decided they needed them. They wouldn't even send me the forms when I called in, they make you jump through a bunch of hoops first.
Wageworks needs to get investigated by the government who is subsidizing Cobra payment of those who are unemployed. I get a different story every time I call.
First story: continue with your current insurance as is, no steps to take on my part. LIES: Group ID changes when one goes on Cobra so existing coverage ceases.
Second Story: mail in payment and we will provide a new Group ID.
LIES: Payment was mailed to Wageworks, received by them (certified mail), and the check was cashed, but Wageworks takes 2-3 days to process. Once processed, they then get an additional SEVEN days to notify the insurance carrier. God knows how long it will take the carrier to provide a new Group ID number.
This is exactly what someone unemployed needs to deal with - BS!
It is not required by law to send any notification out to people after the enrollment papers are sent out reminding them they have to pay or when the first payment is due? I can only say to the people that are complaining about this company is "Good Luck" cause your not going to get no where. Even if you speak to a supervisior they lack training and support from their own supervisors. The customer service people are told that they have 3 minutes to talk to you on the phone and to get you off asap and will tell you anything you want to hear. The escalation line forget it! Dont even bother! Because they do not know what the hell their doing. Your best bet is to ask for the executive escalation line and make sure the other escalation line doesnt tell you to write in a letter with your concerns because those are thrown right into the garbage. And you want to make sure your calling the right office as well, because you dont want to get the one in Utah nor Mexico cause your not going to get anywhere. The executive escalation line is located in San Mateo CA. Ive done my homework on this company and it seems to me they do not want nothing to do with the general public. If your still not getting anywhere file a report with your attorney general of your state and never the Dept of Labor because you wont get anywhere with them either.
Absolutely everything!
I agree with all of the previous statements. I have sent receipts to WageWorks when requested, only to find out by my own efforts weeks later that they were "unreadable".
I have even submitted receipts that I paid out of pocket (insurance refused to pay) with insurance billing codes and written original prescription from Dr. only to be denied using my money once again.
I detest this company and want no further involvement with them. I have recently been laid off and have elected not to continue the COBRA coverage with them.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My employer said they paid for the first three months of COBRA coverage. Being in the 21st Century, I tried to navigate the Website. To say it is NOT user friendly is an understatement. There are numerous circuitous links. No information could be found that I was a participants. After several days of trying to find information, called an 800 # listed on a consumer website. The 800# that asked for SS#, zip code, birthday, etc. DOES NOT work. Use all zeros to get through.
Talked to several barely literate customer service reps over three months. Each one gave a different story why interrupting me before I could ask an entire question. The first one, April, said I had no insurance for 45 days ever though the employer paid for it. The second, Rick, said I could only use my insurance on an emergency basis. Today, the woman I talked to interrupted my every question, yelling at me that WageWorks has nothing to do with the "carrier". She did threaten me with cutting off my coverage of pre-existing conditions. I don't know if I have any coverage at all because I can't get proof. There's no receipt on WageWorks website that says the premium has been paid.
WageWorks must be owned by the same ignorant people as the government healthcare site.
Inadequate customer service
I submitted my Invoice for my husband's contacts because they requested I verify it was an legitimate charge... no problem. I contacted my Optometrist and the sent me an itemized Invoice for the contacts. I sent the form in and WageWorks sent me a notice they had received and processed the invoice. Well, I happen to log on to my account and still see the status of that $70 charge is "UNKNOWN." I contact them on the phone and they tell me the Invoice was denied. WHAT? WHY? We didn't understand the Invoice (SERIOUSLY? EVERYONE I SHOWED IT TO UNDERSTOOD IT)! So, I find myself contacting my optometrist to tell them WageWorks had employees that were not intelligent enough to understand a simple invoice and I needed a written explanation of what I received on company letterhead so they could understand it.
So, that is where I am at now. The thing that really annoys me is Wageworks NEVER bothered to tell me that Invoice was denied. They even sent me an email telling me it had been processed but not a denial! I assumed it was accepted! Anyway, it is another example of some people trying to find any way to denie a claim... they even went so far to say "we don't understand the Invoice."

This company is horrible...I work in the medical field understand my policies and I can't seem to get them to take care of an issue they have missed up on for over 2 months...I work for a company that sends things overseas and it kills me that others here may only end up with minimum wage jobs while the overseas companys get the higher $$$ jobs...I just want to speak to one person at Wageworks that can fix the problem without reading from a screen that they obviously do not understand. I have spoke to 3 supervisors and still nothing has come out of it...I am not sure why we went to this company Probably lower $ contract but I wish we would go back to Aetna if possible..I had no problems with them at all and I always spoke to some who understood the job they were doing.
I Have had the same problem, they did not notify me by email, as he receipt has stated when we oriented with them, found out my card was suspended due to verification of receipts. Receipts must be VERY detailed, which I think is a HIPPA violation, in order to get paid. Don't mind sending verification, but please notify me! Empyrean is a much better company than Wageworks. Having
trouble understanding their reps. Call center - India! Our corporate wold must realize that they are major contributors to the american joblessness, but profits have a higher regard than humanity.
Btw phone monkey its people like you that make call centers look bad. No wonder why their leaving and moving overseas and going to Canada!
Hey Phone Monkey: You think you have it all figured out huh? Dont you think you should be taking Lauren or Edgars Job? I bet your skills and knowledge would be better then theirs. How long have you been working in the flexible spending dept? 5 years wowwww! Omg your so good! I wish I can be just like you! How far back are you guys behind on your data entry now wait wait let me guess 5 months now since open enrollment came into play? The offices in Arizona, Mexico, Utah, and wherever else are doing good? Here' s some good advice everyone if your having trouble dont ask for a supervisor cause they don't know what the hell there talking about half of the time ask to speak to the executive escalation team based in San Mateo trust me you will go further then now, get your human resources from your companies involved go back to them and complain and tell them to contact wageworks to see whats going on and ask them to speak to the project management team about their accounts? Ask the customer service rep how far behind are they in your paperwork? Trust me I guarantee you that your paperwork got there on time and tell that customer service rep or if you get a supervisor to get off their [censor] and go check in the data entry dept to see if they got your letter and when it will entered and updated. For the flexible spending people if you still are not getting the answers you want call the IRS and see how many complaints they received on WageWorks? Trust me I know theirs quite a bit! Good Luck on these tips!
Right on! I have worked in the call center on the phones for over 5 years. All I hear is how I have destroyed someone's life.
Don't you people get why call centers are all going overseas? It's becasue [censor]s that complain on this site first called into a call center and expected an hourly employee who makes minimum wage to solve your problem when they cannot because you are not following the program.
People who complain, read the program before you call.
If you don't like the program, don't use it. Save your time and a headache for the poor rep on the phone.
P.S. I am going by the name "PhoneMonkey" because that is what I am considered in America.
You should bang your head against the wall. How stupid can you be. Wageworks is following the law and we love the program where we work.
Get your thumb out of your [censor] and log on and you can find the answers you need.
I hope you end up in a call center to receive some of the attitude you most likely dished out to the reps on the phone. You make me sick.
Get a life or move on.
This story sounds very familiar. My invoice states "contact lenses - Proclear dailies" on a genuine invoice from my Optometrist, but apparently that, along with the firms name, address, phone/fax number, customer's name/address, date of transaction, description of service, and dollar amount before and after tax isn't descriptive enough to warrant approval. And again, no notification from Wageworks - just a note next to the website entry saying - Denied. Talk about lack of communication. When I phoned them initially they tell me they lost the invoice - surprise! so I'll have to send another copy. And if I hadn't phoned them I would never have known.
I spend half my life duplicating copies of receipts for this company and they never do anything with them apart from lose them (even though I also send them recorded delivery so they can't blame the postal service for losing them). So naturally I'm upset that less than 2 weeks after sending the first receipt I'm already being asked to send a second one. So I ask to speak to a supervisor - hoping to reach some sensible conclusion to my problem. No such luck. She wheels out the old chestnut - your name isn't on the account I can't possibly talk to you! Send a copy of the receipt and we might look into it one day! Customer service with attitude - nice.
So this company has all my information on their files - including my social security number and even my latest gynae procedure (I had to send copies, so I think they've got them!) but they can't discuss the wageworks account with me 'for security reasons'! I've never heard such nonsense in my life.
I sincerely hope their card covers the cost of blood pressure pills. The mere mention of their name makes my blood boil at the moment. I've dealt with some incompetent people in the past, but these people take some beating. They consistently offer bad customer service, little to no follow up on actions they request, and no means of contacting them apart from the phone.
They do not offer customer service complaints services, complaints website or complaints address - I wonder why?
Next time I receive a 'card verification form' through the post I might as well bang my head against a wall until it bleeds. The outcome will be just the same - if not slightly more satisfying - as if I'd followed the normal procedure of endlessly photocopying documents time and time again, and mailing them time and time again - all to no avail.
Wageworks - Such a Great Idea - Wasted in Incompetent Hands!
Wage works is totally not a customer service company. Even after talking to a supervisor, I got: I'm sorry thats not the way things work around here, nice customer service!
Reimbursement for services not rendered
I unfortunately lost my job in September of 2008. I am regularly being treated for a previous job related back injury and high blood pressure. Therefore, the very minute I realized I would not be covered for health insurance; I elect Cobra coverage through Wageworks to cover me for a month while I sought out sources for more affordable coverage. I have a CPAP Machine, and submitted the bill from the service to WAgeworks in Dec of 2008. They wanted to see the acutal bill which I had, faxed it to them only to be told that the expense was not in the plan year, because it got posted by wageworks in Jan. 2009, even though i had until 3/15/09 to spend 2008 funds in my flex spending. I also went to the dr. has a bill for $93 that i used my wageworks card to pay for, that they are now say they don't cover those charges. Its been a total nightmare with wageworks, and all the the customer service people can say it, I understand...but they are simply clueless and rude. If you use a chain store like CVS or Rite Aid, they want to see the receipt from the store to make sure you use your card properly, the reasoning...but they sell other things...Maybe its time to take my money out

My wife has done battle with these people for over three years.
We have had to submit invoices for services rendered three
separate times on many occasions. Tonight, I sent them a .pdf
of an invoice and received a canned e-mail back from them
saying the attachment was in an "invalid format, " and then
went on to state that one acceptable format is a .pdf. It appears
that this may be some kind of criminal enterprise which should
be investigated at a minimum by the Kentucky Attorney General
and possibly by the federal government as well.
Customer service/claims denials
My husband uses a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. His employer switched FSA administration claims for the 2009 benefit year to Wageworks. Our health care plan leases the CPAP equipment to the patient on a monthly basis until the equipment has been paid for, (as patients may sometimes need to change the piece of equipment). Our FSA administrator in the past year has covered CPAP equipment.
As the annual insurance deductible renews in January, the entire lease payment is due out of pocket (to the tune of $139.26. The payment was charged to our Wageworks debit card. We received a card use verification form requesting the receipt for the item, which was faxed to them and then processed. The claim was denied.
I contacted Wageworks so-called customer service. The representative was almost entirely clueless, and could not tell me anything more than what I was able to read for myself on the Wageworks website. The customer service is completely divorced from Wageworks claims, and the representative could do nothing to elevate my concern over the claim denial. Further, she had no information as to "how" I could actual dispute the denial.
Not only are Wageworks customer service reps unempowered to do anything other than listen to a complaint, but the one I spoke with could not understand that a CPAP was a critical piece of medical equipment. I finally contacted the HR department for my husband's employer to elevate the issue (and hopefully negotiate with another FSA administrator next year).
I agree 100% with these folks. WageWorks is a joke. I fought them over an electric toothbrush being covered that was perscribed by a doctor for receeding gums. I took it all the way to the IRS who said it SHOULD be covered. Threatened a lawsuit through the state of Illinois against WageWorks, that got their attention and they covered it. WageWorks=WasteWorks.
Wageworks Customer service is a waste of time. I suspect they hire illegals from across the border to staff their call center in Texas. Supervisor's are not adequately trained to make decisions (common sense) on their own. Further complaints are directed to:

You can bet they will recieve at least 2 pages from me.
I had a similar problem with oxygen costs. Not only wouldn't they agree that oxygen was a covered expense- they wanted to know what form I got the oxygen in - bottles, concentrator, etc. When in frustration I asked to speak to his supervisor, I got somewhere- after carefully explaining the situation to the supervisor, he was off the phone for some minutes and came back to tell me that it would be covered, but that reinstating the wageWorks card would take a few days. That part went smoothly enough. My new police- when you get stonewalled, ask to speak to a supervisor- they have more options. - Judy
Refund money
Transportation card which is paid for a month in advance pe tax out of my check cannot be refunded to me because I didnot cancel before 02/11/09 but the web site says you need to orfer by. all I wanted was a replacement for a card that stopped reading. they wanted to charge me $5.00 to replace a faulty product. not lost or damaged it worked when it wanted to work .I cant get back out of pocket money spent due to the faulty product and next months money either they dont have customer service it doesn't care about hard working people ttrying to get to work and that is how businesses loss customers and lay people off because they dont give you your money's worth and they dont need you I will tell everyone at my job about them and anyone else who will listen they are terrible business partners in a bad economy.

i was laid off by my employer in 2008. they had $115.00 of my money for commuting expenses. they said they could not refund it to me because it was pre-tax dollars. this went back and forth for months, saying I had to get the money from my employer or find a job that participated in the program. here i am 2010 and wage works has 115.00 of my money. i am so thankful i did not get laid off with an FSA that i would be unable to retrieve as well.
Unrevealed balance
I have been participating in the wageworks program in which I receive a "credit card" that carries my money that is taken out of my check pre-tax. It has been extremely convenient, or so I thought.
I just recently discovered that I have a balance of several hundred dollars. This information is not easy to come by. When one goes to the website to reaffirm the continued withdrawal of funds from one's paycheck, the information given is how much I have spent and how much will be taken out of my check the month after next. Having probed further, it appears that in fact I have over $400 sitting there. I gather that this has been collecting over the entire period that I have been participating in the program. Well, now I would like it back. I shall telephone today and see what I can do since there is no option available on line.

Fail to reimburse for retraining
WageWorks has failed to reimburse me for retraining expenses on 3 occasions. I was laid off from Lenovo in 2007. Part of the package was for them to cover retraining expenses.
1- They said I didn't submit needed documents. Lie - I carefully staple all documents together. They said I didn't submit the claim form. They couldn't have notified me about not getting the claim form without getting my address ON the claim form.
2, 3 - Two other separate submisions, mailed weeks apart, have been ignored. No reimbursement.
I don't understand how WageWorks profits from this unless they get a bulk payment for handling all of the refunds and get to keep the money that isn't paid out.
WageWorks ranks up there with Bernie Madoff and rebate companies.
If part of your layoff package includes retraining expense, be prepared to get screwed.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree with you whole heartedly. I have been sreewed over by this company on several occasions and feel that they should be fined and or put out of business for incompetence and down right fraud.
WageWorks adminsters FSA, HSA, HRA's and other consumer directed spending accounts. They have nothing to do with retraining expenses. The IRS does not list these as eligible expenses.
Inappropriate denial/suspension
Most of the claims I submit to Wage Works is denied for supporting documentation. These bills were for a Radiology Dept, Radiologist, ER room, ER Physician and an eye doctor. My insurance company sent me duplicate EOB's which I submitted to Wage Works. They state 1. that they did not receive all EOB's (eventhough I faxed together with my claim form) 2. They are not sufficient because does not show the amount I would have owed. Only that my insurance processed as a medical expense.
Since they can not be sure that non cosmetic medical care was rendered by these providers I must provide additional proof or my card will be suspended and the employer can request that we pay back the amounts paid.
The customer service department is no help. The do not attempt to obtain any information. They have paid, but pended all but one claim I have ever submitted. These denials are inappropriate and unfounded. I feel Wage Works is in the habit of denying claims and making it difficult to use so that members give up and do not use the funds.
The one claim that I paid out of pocket and submitted to Wage Works was not paid back to me but credited to my Wage Works available funds. How does that help when they will not accept the claims when submitted through the provider of service.
I am very unhappy with the service. Will be reporting them to the employer and would like to know what government agency I can also report them to.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
LIkewise, half of all medical services I have paid for with the Wage Works debit card have to eventually send in an EOB or reciept for verification. I concur with customer service, worthless...
Though, if you don't have the appropriate information for them, they demand the money paid out be paid back. And if you don't pay back the money, they can submit your "amount owed" to a collections agency. Government making life easier...of course.
Interestingly, even though they promote the ease of use with the card, the purchase has to comply with IIAS standard. Standards that, guess who, Wage Works is a primary member in developing.

Just another interest group...this time, with gov't funding.
In terms of time, I probably didn't save anything with all the work I had to do to get them the correct info.
Do not reimburse out of pocket expenses, card fails to work, customer service is useless
Wageworks is a completely ineffective company. They are designed to be a flexible spending account for healthcare services. Their complete inability to run the customer service department has frustrated me to the point of canceling the service and paying taxes on healthcare because it simply is not worth the aggravation. The card should work at doctors offices, but never does. They make the reimbursement process completely useless and cannot get their act together. They read off of a script and do not hire anyone with the common sense to read a receipt. This is nothing more than a government funded scam to take your money, so just pay the taxes and save yourself the grief. I have had to hire an attorney to navigate the inept management.
OK so forgetting about the fact that this scam corporation gets to keep any and all wages that you (the Participant) contribute by year-end - why not return any unused portion to the Participant?, anyway aside from that, this program is pretty much impossible to use. Example- you go to the pharmacy, dermatologist, podiatrist, etc. you give them your card and that's supposed be it right? I mean you are contributing to an account from your paycheck managed by WageWorks, it SHOULD be simple to draw against it with your physician, medical, pharmacy visits. But hold on. Of my last 12 charges, all but 3 were denied. Reason? "No proper documentation". This despite the fact that the attempted charges originated from a national cancer hospital, a Dermatologist, a Podiatrist, even CVS pharmacy! They not only deny the charges at a staggering rate, they suspend your "benefits" card immediately! The [censored] bags who run this firm are so out-of-touch, that they suspend your card if you sneeze too loud. Yet your hard-earned wages continue to flow into their account and you cannot access them!
Why anyone one would voluntarily choose this blatant abuse of a service is beyond me. If you have not already chosen this abusive program, then DON"T!
And if you already have enrolled, QUIT immediately like I did! I'd rather pay the taxes!
I just got off of the phone with the 5th representative from wage works. I asked numerous times to talk to someone in the US. I received the same answer time after time. My spending account was suspended in 2016 for a missing receipt for my dentist office that they had paid numerous time prior. When I went to use my card in 2017 they showed that I was missing 4 receipts from the prior year. These are the names on the receipts, "Express Scripts, Midwest Radiological Services, Webster Dental Care and The Joint Chiropractic. I asked, "Why these vendors were not just reimbursed?" It is obvious that they are health care expenses. The customer service rep, and I lose that term very loosely, told me that I needed to submit a payment with my credit card and that he would assure that they reimbursed me. I asked him to confirm what he was asking me to do numerous times and he confirmed that this was just to get the card opened for my current expense and that Wage Works would reimburse me with a check for the payment that I was makings. Stupid me. I did. Guess what they will not pay me for the legitimate expenses. I have over a thousand dollars in MY MONEY that I can't use and they will not reimburse me. I really want to start a class action law suit. Who do we contact. I am calling the attorney general. This should be regulated closely. It's tax deferred money. Can I submit from reimbursement somehow. I was lied to and cheated. HELP.
This year is the first year that I have had any dealing with WageWorks. It will also be the last. They paid a claim or two, then, cut the card off and have not paid any more since. I tried registering on their web site, but, it does not work. I comply with all the requirements stated and still web site does not work. Called customer service number, just got a run around. I explained to them that they have my funds on deposit and I am making valid claims, still no resolution. They will not email out "requiired" forms for reimbursement. They say that they will send in snail mail. They refuse to reimburse me for out of pocket, legitimate medical and dental expenses, a function that they are charged with. I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH WAGEWORKS AGAIN. I would advise anyone considering this company to just take what ever amount of money that they would deposit with them and burn it. You will never see your money again. WageWorks is organized theft. Pure and simple.
They are a terrible company... They allow me to charge my card for Dental work, but then complain about a receipt (how about verify that its a dental company before you release funds)... They also won't pay for my CVS bill when it clearly says F next to the items.
As everyone is saying, DO NOT fund this company! I have not spoken to one person that was from the USA. Everyone I have had the displeasure of talking to has been someone that does not understand a single for of English, moreover, cannot hold a conversation unless it is written in the script they are clearly reading from. At one point, I was actually training the representative on their own website. No matter what question you ask, they say the same thing over and over. There is no talking to a supervisor because they don't exist. Our money has been inaccessible for months and repeated attempts to clear this up with receipts has failed. We finally just paid our account back with a credit card and now they won't credit our account with that payment either so we are out another $225.00. We asked to speak to an English speaking American and were denied. Instead we sit here with this orange card that is absolutely useless. We will NEVER do this again. My husband works for the City of Houston as a Captain in the Houston Fire Academy and why the city was easily swayed to use this fraudulent company is beyond me. Clearly a little research would have made all the difference. I can only hope that people like me and the others that take action like this to complain publically can make a change and put this company out of business. Help us help others! I'm an American and more importantly, I am a Texan! To the employees and owner of Wageworks, Don't mess with Texas!
I submitted a claim for shoe inserts because he went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a condition in which the shoe inserts will help alleviate. I sent in the copay for the doctor visit and the prescriptions. I purchased a shoe inserts for my husband and the claim was denied because they state that shoe inserts require a letter of medical need. Yet, I am able to purchase shoe inserts from the FSA website without a letter of medical need. What is up with Wageworks? Can they just deny claims for eligible expenses? Who do I contact, other than wageworks to file a complaint? With so many confirmed complaints wouldn't they be in violation of their federal contracting obligations?Do they have a contracting officer who oversees this federal contract?
This card is a total scam... so I put $20 a pay period on this card for a total of $260 a year. Not a lot but that is money out of my check every week. So I leave the company in March of 2014 having out about $120 on the card from my personal check. I call to use the money I put on the card and was told that because I terminated my employment the only way to get my money now would be to send in my receipts for the portion of the year I worked at my company. Problem is I don't have a $120 in paid medical bills between Jan and March let along the full $260 that they have got. SO... they now get to keep the entire $260 and I get non of my money back. THIS IS LEAGAL! I ask to speak to a manager about this... after about 10 minutes my call was miraculously just disconnected. I would never contribute to "Wage Works" and recommend anyone considering it find an alternate source. On top of it I worked for a very large company with 250, 000 employees in the US. Can you imagine what this company takes in every year.
Wageworks takes scamming to a whole new level. I resigned from my job last month and received a letter from Wageworks saying that in order to continue my health insurance coverage (COBRA), I had to send Wageworks $521.39, which I did. After they cashed my check, I called the health insurance carrier to verify continuation of coverage and they advised me Wageworks had not paid my health insurance premium and my policy was suspended. When I called Wageworks, they said they didn't pay it because my former employer is no longer one of their clients. When I asked for a refund, they refused and pocketed my entire premium! I have filed a complaint against them with the Department of Labor, which has just opened an investigation on them. People need to open a slew of investigations against these evil crooks to be made right and prevent Wageworks from preying on other innocent victims. With concerted efforts and complaints, we can shut down Wageworks. Have everyone you know who has been cheated by Wageworks complain to their state attorney general, the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, or the Department of Labor.
Wageworks makes its money because:
1. They find an excuse to stop servicing you. If you don't resolve an issue within 180 days, your account is suspended, so they don't spend anymore time working on your case. In the meantime, they still collect their fee.
2. You forfeit money. Although they claim that they make no direct money when you're prevented from using your FSA contribution, there are indirect ways in which they benefit from screwing you over.
3. You have no recourse. Your only means of complaining is to the IRS, who doesn't give a rat's ### about Wageworks screwing you over. As long as they're compliant with their end ot the IRS requirements for "managing" FSA accounts, they're golden.
In a word, Wageworks is institutionalized racketeering, that's protected by the IRS.
Wageworks is a bunch of crooks. If you don't spend all the money you put in the account by end of year, they keep it. Forget about filling out the forms to get it back, that is a joke. My card was suspended because the didn't know why my doctors office put $68.00 on the card, MY DOCTORS OFFICE, that should be enough.
Unfair business practices
Wageworks is a company designed to get extra money from the unsuspecting employee who is offered this service from their employer. Some of their rules and business practices are not designed to benefit the consumer using the service, but to fill the coiffers of the wageworks company. One rule they have is the "pay me back". You pay for the eligible service...

Wageworks takes your money and does not like to give it back to you or to appropriate doctors. They always deny claims and need more paperwork. They never try to help you and always insist that you need to do more. They are a terrible company with terrible customer service.

WageWorks for two years in a row has received a faxed claim from me on 3/31 but claimed it was illegible. 3/31 is the last date you can submit a claim from the previous year. So, they wait a month and then send a letter saying that the claim was illegible, and to re-send it. So, I immediately re-send, but then, of course, they say that the claim is too late. Thus, I lose out on MY money, I guess perhaps because they are too lazy to process claims, which they are in business to do.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Wagesworks is big time scam. I have provided all the documents (Itemized bill, payment receipt, date of service and patient name. Still they problem and they don't to pay my money. I strongly recommend not waste your money to wageworks. They are sitting to eat your money.
I had an account with $1500 in it, and once I quit Expedite, wageworks avdised I had no way to use or claim the funds, in short they are corporate thieves. This company should be audited by the US Attorney's office.
On the other hand since they will get away with this for years, their stock price is going through the roof!
I ordered a new card over a month ago and have yet to receive it...Every time I call its never a person that you can clearly understand...they keep saying its in the mail...you ask for a supervisor and they leave you on hold for over 20 minutes only to tell you that they are gonna put you in a voicemail...THE GUYS WAS VERY RUDE!
My experience is similar to the experiences listed here, on the Better Business Bureau site, and on Yelp. Thousands of people experience the same thing, yet there is no mention anywhere of a class action lawsuit or legal action. I have documented a claim appeal properly, and with legal terms included. they have not responded within the 30 day window, nor have the offered me a Summary Plan document. I have asked my HR representative to provide me with a timeline "with justification" to document and detail what decisions were made on my account and to state clearly why my pre tax payroll funds have not been deposited into my account for over 10 days, despite all approvals. I think the only approach is to get your HR team involved, and to ask specifically for justification of their decisions. Ultimately your employer is probably the fiduciary of the Plan. So there may be rules written into the plan that nobody is revealing to you. But my guess is that no matter what, WageWorks is not entitled to "float" individual funds and earn interest income on the funds. That's where there may be a case to be made. Good luck pursuing what is right and due to you. I know the extreme frustration. I am in absolute amazement that a company can be so dishonest, deceptive and unapathetic. I hope you find resolution and that if there is a lawsuit we can all participate.
WE SHOULD ALL WRITE LETTERS TO OUR STATE ATTY GENERAL'S OFFICE ABOUT THIS COMPANY. WHERE IS OUR MONEY GOING?
Oh god, apparently I'm not alone! Yes, Wageworks is the devil. I've had 4 other administrators at other jobs (Pay Flex rocks) and never have I had an issue. Not only do they take a WEEK + to approve online submitted claims, but they reject everything. They've even charged back on my HCSA debit card to an OPTOMETRIST. They required a detailed receipt another time equalling my exact insurance co-pay to an urgent care center. Why? It didn't list the patient. Who cares?! There are 4 of us in my family, we are all covered, and I signed it. Do you think I drug in a man off the street for free medical care? AVOID, AVOID...and please HR directors, spare your employees the headache and pick another vendor.
I also submitted a claim on their deadline day (via fax with documented proof). However they did not even bother with the illegible ruse, they simply said it took them two days to process it and therefore it was late. The fact that I met their deadline did not matter to their customer service (or the manager I asked to speak with). Even the IRS accepts tax returns as long and the filer met the deadline. If their claims people are slow, why does that mean they get to deny my claim. Unacceptable business practices and poor customer service.
WageWorks is a complete scam! They owe me $500 and they will not provide a reimbursement. Their supposed "discount" is not worth the paper it is written on. I strongly discourage everyone for signing up for this.
My wife's nj monthly commuter pass was refunded by NJ Transit to Wageworks. Wagework will NOT REFUND THE MONEY. They said it is credited to her account and can be used only if she get employed again at the company that will work in the future is a member of wageworks. This also what happen to me. I never get refunded although they have the money. WAGEWORKS DOES NOT WORK. WAGEWORK DOES NOT WORK.
I placed an order for the Commuter Card (Debit Mastercard) for May 2009. By July 2009 I still did not receive the card. So I called customer service couple of times requesting for a new card. First, they told me they cannot re-issue me another card and told me to wait. Then they told me to fax in my request for a refund. I finally got the refund for my first order 3 months later. Today when I called them up requesting for the refund on my remaining balance of $150, they claimed that they cannot refund because I have not placed any orders in the last 6 months. This is ridiculous! They delay the processing time to refund your money and then tell you there's nothing they can do now. This is one company whose bottom line (profits) is made up of "unclaimable" credits from commuters like us (in truth, they just refuse to return us our money!). Their customer service is horrendous!

What goverment agency you ask? If you look at ADP, Ceridian and SHPS there all doing the same thing to everyone else. Your best bet is to contact your attorney or go to the press to get an investigation going. Trust me the Dept of Labor will not help you cause they simply dont care. I hope this may help you in someway shape or form.
