Company repossessed vehicle 3 days after payment due. Refused to give information and demanded $1000.00 in cash to tell where vehicle located along with bank statements, 5 references, paycheck stubs, insurance information and registration. Company is loan shark. Company bought loan form another lender without consent. Company has been reported the State of California Attorney General, reported to The BBB, and suit filed in small claims court.

I was barely one month late, and they attempted to repo my car. Well the next day a Private investigator wanted to speak with me regarding a Felony that is being filed against me... HA! bull ### I cant wait to get out of this loan.

I had a three year loan for over 13, 000, which I paid off within 2.5 years. I purchased the car in 2000 and in my state they were not required to start reporting until 2001. I have tried feverishly to get this company to report to all 3 credit reporting agencies so that I can increase my FICO and they will not.

They told me to request the agencies to report it, but the agencies said AL Financial MUST report it, I called back and all they offered was to mail me a document that I can have in my own personal files, how is that solving this I must ask?

I cosigned a loan for my daughter. She wasn't even a month late with her payment when they repossessed the car. We had to come up with $1, 800.00 before they would tell us where the car was and then the tow company had broken the driver side window. We had to fight with them for a week to get the window replaced and then they sent us to a repair shop over an hour away from our home. I was never happier to pay off a loan in my life. I would never do business with them again!

My first payment was due on the 7th I sent a money order on the 3rd they repos sed my car on the 22nd. When I called the next day to find out what happened The rep said finally I told her I had my receipt and she even told me they have problems processing money orders they still requested I pay my note plus a $19 dollar late fee and a $550.00 repo fee in order to get my car. I offered to pay the note and the late fee and they could just apply the money order to my next months payment since I had just put $2000.00 cash I was told no. They made me pay all the fees and once I did that and faxed everything plus I had to get a police release for them picking it up at my house(crazy) I asked where the car was she said I don't know I just have a number. I called the Tow yard they said I needed an appointment even though they are open 8:30- 5PM and since it was 3:45 and the last appointment was at 4 I have to wait until Tuesday to get my car and I don't know how far I have to drive to get there. They are charging me $25 dollars a day from Thursday. When I get my car I plan on filing a small claims case and going to the media I don't think they should be able to take advantage of people I would like to go picket outside the office. Has anyone had any luck on there law suit or complaint against them? I was told by the rep she is not in the business for customer service, can they report this on my credit since it was never 30 days past due?

This company attempted to contact me on my cell phone and when they could not reach me I received a notice two days later saying I had to surrender my car immediately or be subject to criminal prosecution for "embezzlement". They called my references and asked to speak with me and when they were told I did not live there they would hang up and call back again insisting on speaking with me. My friend said they called him three times in less than two minutes and he finally just let their calls go to voicemail. This company has predatory business practices and I encourage everyone to report them to the BBB.

Hi,

My name is Kelli. Unfortunately I too was screwed by A-L financial. Almost 6 months after they illegally repossessed my vehicle I get a letter in the mail with a warrant for my arrest with a bail amount set for 2500. This company repossessed my vehicle after I made payment arrangements to bring my payments current. I made my payment as agreed and when I called to give him the conformation my finance manager said that I was 25 dollars short and in order to keep my car from being late I would have to make that payment right then and there. I was on my lunch hour at work when I western union the payment because this company does not take credit card over the phone and he expected me to pay western union an additional15 dollars to wire the 25. I asked if I could drive it to the office when I got off at 430 and he said no because the were closing early because it was a Friday. Well needless to say I went to clock in from lunch and at 330 I went to move my car from across the street over flow parking lot to our regular parking lot when I discovered my car was missing. I contacted A-L Financial and they said they do not know what I'm talking about and told me to call back on Monday because the were closing. They did not report it to the police that they were repossessing my vehicle so basically they stole my vehicle, it was not until a day later that they reported it to the police which makes it an illegally repossessions. This has to be illegal what they are doing to us we need to put a stop to it.

Glad, but also sorry to see that AL Finance is still up to the same crap they pulled on me. I bought a yr old truck. The dealer financed me through AL Finance. I put $5000 down. Anyway, I was on time as long as I could be ( years ) then, my Father fell ill & ultimatly passed away. I was the one taking care of him & had explained this the the finance company. They more than knew that I was not working & had to stay with him. I was late on 3 payments ( not in a row ) on one of the late times, they did in fact repo the truck... Ok, fine, I get it.( I did get the truck back within a weeks time, AFTER $1600 in extorsion $ being paid ) I called and told them that i had been a loyal customer for years & that they being the huge corporation that they are, should be assamed of them selves for not only not allowing me the very little bit of time I would have needed to catch up, but that when they sent their GOONS to get the truck they broke BOTH of my front side windows & the truck was UNLOCKED ! There was absolutly NO need for the windows being broke ! My truck went from my home in SV, az TO Tucson, AZ - which on a bad day is only 73 miles... Guess what ? When I went to get the truck from the "tow yard" I too was told that I had to have an appointment HA HA ! I wasnt leaving there until I had my truck & I DIDNT ! Guess what else? When my truck was brought to me 1/2 of my stuff was missing, & of what remained, most of it was broken, or ripped & My truck had 378 miles on it ( i have to keep a milage record for work & there was mud from the FRONT of it to the BACK of it - with @ least 2-3 inches in the bed! believe me - when they threatened me, I DARED them to call the police & ambulance, cause someone was going to need them & wasnt going to be ME! LOL
Now, I am in need of the lien release AGAIN, as the MVD has some how misplaced the one they already were given almost 3 years ago. I have been calling AL for 2 days now & keep being told by people I can hardly understand, that they are short handed & havent been able to get to me, yet. Ive said, O' ok, so you can use some help? I can fill out an application, as I am looking for new employment & guess what I was told? O' no, we arent hiring! hm... I was hit from behind, taken to the hospital, had my truck totaled & am currently under a Doctors care, as well as being out of work for over a month & in order for my truck to be settled, I NEED the release & they are refusing to do their job... I hope for anyone who encounters this so called business ( Ide prefer Extorsion Experts ) much better luck than I & MANY others have had... You know guys, that if we all got together & wrote something out with ALL of our complaints & signatures on it & it goes to the govenor, as well as the Attorney General - they have to Pay attention. I am MORE THAN WILLING to be the typist.. LOL I really am... Contact me if interested... Smile :)
PS- for anyone who has delt withthe Tucson office, youde think they could get CARLOS off his ###, off the phone- as he is the one who does the threatening) and have him go to the "warehouse" where it is that they are claiming to have my account info... Ha, ha - go figure

My payment was due on the 22nd and I called A-L finance manager that I was walking in my payment on the 29th. Irma at the San Diego office went off telling me she would not accept my payment and would have my car repo. I told her that by the time she scheduled a repo that my payment would be in she again said she wasnt going to accept my payment, I then told her that I was contacting the BBB and the State attorney because she refuses to take my payment I hung up on her. A few minutes later her assit manager called and said I could come in on the 29th to make my payment. These hefers have no shame poor business ethics and no class.

Maria from the San Jose AL Financial office just harassed me and accused me of lying about having my Lawyer contact her and that he would have to call to get her last name, she would not give me her last name. She was yelling at me about how I was in breech of my contract, I am only 6 days late. What a horrible company, they are a corporation, I will complain to BBB and to the California Attorney Generals and to my Lawyer, yes I do have a Lawyer.

After filing a BBB complaint against my last four payments "never made it" to their Fresno office. I have verified postage on all four envelopes and dropped the last three off at the Post Office because the first time I thought that, legitimately, someone may have taken the payment from my locked mailbox or it may have been lost in the mail. Now, I think they are deliberately disposing of my payments or not applying them to my account. Each time I have had to pay via Western Union and pay a $13 fee for the service. CROOKS, FRAUDS, and CON ARTISTS. I urge everyone to file BBB reports and if anyone ever hears of a class action lawsuit, PLEASE let the rest of us know!

I was only 4 days late with my first payment and they took my car, mind you I hadn't gotten my statement so no account number either, no one will talk with me and they also want $1600 to get my car back. Screw them if this is the way they are going to be keep the damn thing. A 9000.00 car with $3000 down, I will report them also.

I have delt with AL in the past and I seued them I would suggest contacting the law office of Sherri Van [censored] in San Diego, CA...the will sue them ASAP...they did an illigal debt collections practice on me and I was PISSED, so I found an attourney and needless to say I got my money and was ok for the rest of my contract...In additon to I now have them again :( and I lost my job. I am behind on my payment two months, and can pay them today, but now I am re-thinking that. Now I think I should just use that as a down for another car (you know they are giving them away right now)..maybe I can luck up on a better deal somwhere else.

A L Financial can reposses by law even if you are only ONE DAY late with payment. Consumers that deal with companies like A L Financial are most likely to have very bad credit and are a high loan risk. Corporations made sure the law was instated to protect themselves. There should be laws to protect consumers by giving more days for being late with a payment, I am sure most of ALs customers have had to make large down payments for the the vehicle they wish to purchase before being approved for financing, only to have the finance company have the right to repossess with being only 1 day late payment is ridiculous. What Senator, Congressman, and Representive let that get by? We have to watch over our public figures, unfortunately not all have our best interest in mind. In the mean time I suggest the following:

1. Be patient and speak kindly with the representive of the corporation (remember one day late payment gives them the right to repossess) if you find you will be late with payments. They do have other options to help you.
2. Make payments before the due date, for example if your payment is due on the 15th of each month make it your goal to pay them by the 1st.
3. If you can pay a little more then the payment. Example: payment is 350.00... instead you pay 380.00 or 400.00 only if you can.

Good luck.

This is Funny.. Maria in San Jose is a ###! She likes to harass you call your refrences call work, but good thing I am in California cause you can tell them not to call work and they legally have to, a C&D Letter from your refrences will work too.

I was one day late and the calls start, I told the stupid ### to come get the truck, they never did, and I think they know that if they do reposession laws or not they will meeet the business end of my 12ga! I always make payments and am very close to paying it off.

It is good to see this isn't happeneing to just me, I know my attitude sounds bad but A.L. Financial is a pig predator loan outfit.

Try being a repair shop that gets stuck with one of their cars. September of 2008, I had a customer bring in their car for repair. They were all gung ho when they dropped off the car to be fixed. But when they attempted to pick up the car, the customer attempted to pass a NSF Check for the $1136.00 in repairs, they stated they would go to the bank and bring cash. I was nice, understanding, and willing to work with the customer. Well a month and a half later, I received a call from A-L Financial in Santa Ana, CA, informing me that they were coming down the next morning to pay and pick up their car? Next morning I get a gentleman (?) who states he is there to pick up the car and wants to pay with a atm card (Illegal in California, cashier check or cash), while a second gentleman is sneaking around the property looking for the car. When it wasn't in plain sight, he too came in the office and they proceeded to tell me what they were going to do and what I was going to do? (Sound familiar). Well needless to say it is now June 2009, nine months later. I am now a co-defendant in a Breach of Contract lawsuit where they are suing the customer for $12, 000 and me for $10, 000 for convergence, loss of use, etc... To which all I did was fix a car and try to be a nice guy. California Law states that if the legal owner wants to retrieve their vehicle from a repair shop or tow yard, they are entitled to do so. However, after they pay the reasonable bill owed! Sounds simple huh? Well not when it comes to A-L Financial. We go to trial in September, almost one year to the date of repair. They talk about their loss of uses? What about mine (ours). Not only can I not remove anything I had to pay up front for to fix the car. I have to make sure no one damages it, or repos it. Otherwise I am out my money owed. And when I went to court today I was not the only A-L Financial case on the calendar. They should have their license revoked, and be made to stand in the middle of the freeway during rush hour traffic, dodging cars, as punishment for all the hoops we have to jump through just because we were sucked into their pit. I welcome a class action lawsuit and would be willing to be one of the Plaintiffs to gladly put this F Rated company by the Better Business Bureau out of Financial Pocket. Best of luck to all my fellow A-L Pigeons.

This company really does suck. I really wish I would of know about this company before getting my car loan. I live in the San Fernando Valley, CA and my ### of a rep REINA keeps calling just because I am a day late. When I dont answer my phone she sends letters stating there will be legal actions taken if I dont call her immediately about my account. When I do call her she tells me she never sends the letters out. "### stop lying" I really wish I could get out of my contract but I am still upsode down on my loan. About 6 more months before I even on my loan, then I am leaving this stupid ### company...

Hi Guys, I unfortunately have a loan with them too, But luckily for me I've never been late because I know the kind of company I'm dealing with. Here's a word of advise, try refinancing your loan with a different bank, because a Mad collector in hunger of money will use any illegal trick of the book to get you to pay. I actually have been in this industry for over 9 years and this is how it works, by the end of the month every finance company needs to meet a certain percentage of delinquency meaning accounts not paid, obviously the lowest percentage the better. What do the collectors get when achieving the month's goal? ((((( A BIG FAT BONUS CHECK ))) That's right, it's all about the Money, so If you guys have any questions about laws, go head and leave a message and I will try to respond as fast as I can..

well i wish i knew about this also before buying a car but maybe we should also think of writing about the car dealerships that are doing business with this company a-l financial. then maybe no one will do business with them(dealerships) and they would drop this company from their list . then they would not be in business to do this to us as consumers. so start throwing the names out there of the dealers that got us in this contract in the first place. (john L sullivan chevrolet ) thanks for doing your research for such a great Financial institution you do business with HA HA .belive me i will not be sending anyone to this dealership!

I had bought a car in feb.2009 and I put $4000 down in feb. so my payments started in March 09. This month July my payment was due the 9th and I couldn't pay it so I called the office in s.a. and they told me that they don't have grace periods and I have to pay it today. I told her I could pay it on Friday she said no and we are a high risk bank so they don't do grace periods and to defer it, I would have to have the loan at least a year and a half. That doesn't make any sense my loan is only for 18 months. I will never deal with a-l. Also, how do I find another bank to fiance my loan?

I called this morning to see if I could get my payment deffered and the stupid rep started giving me a lecture on how important having a car is and how it should always be payed on time...blah..blah...blah. I told him the last thing I needed was a lecture and that the car was the last thing I would pay after I pay what's really important like rent and food for my kids. Anyways he tried saying the payment would be late after the 24 I told him I knew i had 10 days grace period, He immediately asked me "who told you that?" I said that was my business, He told me to borrow money or soemthing to pay on time I told him no I'll be there 10 days after friday to make the paymeent. I also mentioned the car is locked in my garage in case they tried to to anything stupid. How can I get another back to refi my loan? someone please HELP! I HATE THIS COMPANY.

I totally agree with those that have complaints against AL Financial. I took a loan out with them 4 months ago, made $2, 000.00 down payment. Then come to find out my monthly payments were high at $400.00 a month. This was the first time ever I had a vehicle in my own name and thinking this would give me a chance to rebuild my credit. FORGET IT!

I was not able to pay for July's payment because I had to put my daughter through college. But I was able to pay for it the following payday. They called me 2 wks. ago, Myria or Maria harrassed me she told me I had this much to pay or else we would pick up the vehicle. Then she tells me to call her on a Saturday says she'll be there all day, of course, here I looking with no money. I called her back later in the afternoon on Saturday and yeah, they were closed for the weekend. So, I called later in the week, instead of working out the payments, what they did was repo'd the vehicle a day after I spoke with Myria, Maria (whatever her name is!). Get this! At 3:00am. In the ###-- morning.

I did not sign anything or was made aware that they were going to send someone out. Not only that, the auto dealer I dealt with ~ Hatch Motor Company in Show Low, Arizona. The transmission on the same vehicle goes out, which means the vehicle doesn't run anymore, but it starts, but what good is it, right! The salesperson says they have nothing to do with it or your warranty is probably expired.

I can't believe I just screwed! Thinking I'm finally getting somewhere in fixing my credit! This is CRAZY. And yes, I did file with BBB of Arizona.

Let's start by laying out some FACTS:
1: BEFORE you sign your contract, you should READ it! Most of the important conditions are on that single-page document, either on it's face or back. For a more detailed description of the law, you can review the California civil code (yes, it's on-line).
2: There is NO grace period; being even 1 day late puts you in DEFAULT of our contract and gives the lender additional special rights, such as the right of repossession. Another common event of default is the failure on the part of the buyer to maintain collision insurance. And, there are other events of default. Again, you should read your contract.
3: Don't assume the complainants on this forum (or other on-line forums for that matter) know the law. Do your homework. READ your contract.
Always keep in mind that the lender is providing you with a valuable service. Without them, you probably would not have been able to purchase the vehicle (banks and credit unions automatically reject any buyer without a strong credit profile). Also, if you pay on time, your credit score will probably increase.
Don't view the finance company as the villain. Use them to help your own situation.

I have been financing with A-L financial since Feb of 08 and still have 1.5 years left on my contract before the car is paid off, and I have yet to have problems with them, of course I always make my payments 10 days before the due date and have Never been late. So i guess it all boils down to paying your bills! When you sign a contract you make a commitment to pay a certain amount of money by a certain day of each month, if you don't pay on or before that day there are penalties. You shouldn't make a financial commitment that you know you cannot keep. I dont think this is so much A-L financials poor customer service as it is an attempt to protect their investments, after all they are a high risk lender ( meaning they give loans to people with poor credit) and give you a chance to redeem yourself so you should be thankful they even financed you in the first place, chances are no one else would finance you and A-L was the last stop! ( Truse me i know, because that was my situation)...Ever stop and think, hey If you pay for your car on the date that YOU singed for on your LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT ...your car would still be sitting in your garage. I even find it amusing the few people that said they threatened the Re-po people with bodily harm. ( most RE-PO companies do not work for the finance company but are contracted to do jobs for them) or maybe you thought, not making your payments and threatening the finance company would help you keep your car, tell me how did that work out? Read your contracts before signing them and pay your bills people!

I was withA L Financial I payed every month in April I had sent a post dated check I was barely a month late when they repo my truck, thenin June one dayI got a letter for a court thing they said in the letter that they had handed us a letter before and it`s all lies.A week after I bought this truck the cops stopped me and told me that they stopped me because of the licence plate on the truck that within 4 mths this truck had 4 different owners, I do not have a car now and might probably end up going to court.I don`t know what to do, I feel these people took advantage of me.They sold the truck and now want me to pay over $5000. I am so dissappointed and mad.

Sorry to hear about your plight, but face the facts: This company is giving you a chance to have a car even though you have crumby credit...why do you have crumby credit? because you don't pay your bills! So they knew you don't pay your bills when they gave you this loan. This is your chance to 1) have a car when no one else will finance you, and, 2) improve your credit if you make your payments on time. So stop crying about how they screwed you, they didn't screw you...YOU SCREWED YOURSELF ONCE AGAIN BY NOT PAYING WHAT YOU AGREED TO. Accept the fact that you have no one to blame but yourself and maybe that will help you grow so you'll stop this self destructive behavior in the future. Basically, if all finance companies, loan companies, lenders, were ALL like A&L and actually made you pay on time then maybe you would respect the loan more than you do. But people have become so lackadaisical because loan companies have let people off the hook with "Grace Periods" "Payment deferrals" or just plain "not paying for months on end", that people have gotten use to it and now ACTUALLY EXPECT THE FINANCE COMPANIES TO ALLOW IT! Well that's not how it is supposed to be, and that's not what you agreed to when you signed on the dotted line. You agreed to pay each and every payment on time by a certain date, PERIOD, end of story and without excuse, and if you can't do that on any loan then don't take the loan in the first place and if you don't hold to the terms, then definitely don't cry about your own screw up after and try and blame it on the finance company. Accept responsibility for your actions. Look at all the home foreclosures in the last 6 months: Was it the fault of the economy? was it the lenders faults? or was it the fault that people simply did not make there payments because they bit off more than they could chew? Yep, you got it, they bit off more than they could chew and couldn't make the pmts for whatever reason, but don't blame it on the economy, or their employer or anything else. If the House Lenders could come at 3am and repo the house, less people would fall behind on their home loan, but people know it is harder to take the house back so they get lazy and don't take the payment as serious and they say, well if I fall behind I'll just try and catch up next month, duh! don't fall behind in the first place! I don't work for A&L, I have a car financed by them, sure I have been divorced 3 times had a failed business due to the economy and I too could try and make a dozen excuses why my credit is bad, but the fact is I just didn't make the payments, so I won't make excuses, and if I don't make these payments on time then I'll get what I deserve. I am just thankful that A&L has given me this chance to redeem myself and start over.

FACTS:
1)If you don't make the payment on time, even 1 day late, they have the RIGHT to take the car back!
2)If they take the car back, they will resell it and collect what they can, and then SUE you for the rest plus fees and collection costs. So you won't have the car, AND they will garnish your back accounts or Paycheck to get the rest you owe! THATS THEIR RIGHT!
3)You will then have worse credit and will have t0 find another company to try and loan you money! Good luck...

SOLUTION:
1) Make the payments on time with THEM and all FUTURE LOANS and stop assuming you have the right to be late "for any reason" and you will develop good credit.

I have had an account with A L Financial, S.J. for the past three years. Thank God I am almost done paying. They are rude, ignorant and very unprofessional. I have had several account managers, one of whom was ok after I reported her attitude to her supervisor. Her name was Corrina and she was the best of the worst of that bunch. She is no longer there and now I have this account manager, Adrianna, who used to be the receptionist and now calls herself a manager. As soon as Corrina left Adrianna took over my account. Adrianna called me and said you are two months past due and we need a payment or we are going to take legal action. I had my car reposessed by them last year because if was over 20 days past due so why would I get myself in that perdicament again. I pulled out all my receipts (Western Union) and gave her payment dates and MTCN numbers. So today, she calls me back and says that she spoke to her supervisor and they figured out that because I had made several payments that were not full amounts, August payment had not rolled over. So I made the payment of 145.00 which now brings me current. When it was all settled I asked her why she didnt figure this out before calling, threatening me and then hanging up when I persisted in telling her that I couldnt be two months behind. She gave some lame excuse which I really didnt want to hear so I hung up on her as she had done to me. I love to see people advance, but she is not ready to be an accounts manager. That situation did not have to happen. I am almost done with this nightmare company and I will never, ever deal with them or recommend anyone to them. I paid 22, 000 for a used car with 35, 000 miles on it. The car at the time I got it would have been worth maybe 8 or 9000 dollars. The car dealer did tell me that if I can hold on to this car and pay it off I will be able to get financing through more reputable companies that dont put you through hell because you have bad credit and they are your last resort!

We all know you work for A L financial why the [censor] else would you be on a random complaint board defending a loan company you [censor]s!
The fact of the matter is this company is known to repo quick on a clients to extort money, if the client cannot pay, A L now has the vehicle and whatever money the client has already paid. Thats why they repo so quickly. Any lawyer will have field day with this expecially those clients who claim harrassment. I encourage you to talk to your local attorney or if you are in california contact my office.

I agree with you all, if I had known how they run their business, I would have never accepted the loan with them. They do act like loan sharks! As soon as I'm 2 days late, they start calling, threatening to repo the car. Then they start calling the references. I have sent in partial payments (no, I didn't ask them if I could) and Maria in Tucson said "We don't take partial payments" and "we need to set up a time to pick up your vehicle", I told her that I was only 2 weeks late, not even long enough to be reported to the credit bureau. I also told her that it sounded like she wanted the car worse than me, and if she wants, she can come and get it. Needless to say, I've made the payments, but I'm not in a hurry to be on time anymore, not with the way they act. As long as I'm not a month late, it's fine with me. I will never do business with them again and I advise anybody else to not do business with them. No matter how bad you want the vehicle. You might as well look up the mafia to borrow from.

A-L Financial Corp processed my check (cashed it) and continued sending me late bills and making threats. An investigator with Wells Fargo contacted A-L on my behalf to see what was going on and why they're claiming to not have received payment when in fact they cashed it. The woman in charge w/ A-L (the manager) aggressively apologized but then made it seem like my fault. TERRIBLE COMPANY! LOAN SHARKS! SCAMS! They need to be reported to the Attorney Generals Office and the BBB.
What's worst is I was close to paying off my loan and for some weird reason the amount I owed jumped $1000 on the next invoice. I contacted them and asked about it and a representative said they forgot to put other fees on it. This company needs to be investigated. Their scam!

It's funny to see how all the complaints here are from people who have made late payments. Maybe if you all made your payments on time, you wouldn't have anything to complain about. Be responsible people, if you're going to get a car loan, make sure you're responsible and mature enough to pay it off in a timely manner.
