dating website
Hello,
I am in a situation less known to me and somehow unfortunate... As a result, I want to signal the next issue that I had after registering on a dating site: www.singleacademics.ro
I signed up in October on www.singleacademics.ro. In order to view the received messages and photos of other users on that site I made a unique payment of 59.96 RON for a "trial period". (4 weeks).
On the 31th of October I made payment online with MasterCard card by completing all the fields required by the respective site (card number, name/surname, expiration date of the card and CVC/CVV code), payment for 4 weeks, at a promotional price... As they claimed... of 59.96 RON
Somewhere in the footer of that page, write small in almost legible letters "The 4-week subscription you bought will be automatically renewed for 1 month (300 RON)". Attached a photo to see how small is the letter.
On November 30, 2019, I was withdrawn without my consent, without any prior notification, from the account opened at OTP Bank, 300 RON!
When I tried to close the so-called "contract" with them they tell me to complete a form with (adress, name, e-mail, phone and sent it to a fax number in Luxembourg, Although registration was made online!?
After repeated attempt to contact them I searched and discovered that I am not the only person "fooled" in this way, in Romania there are a lots of people...and in UE, SUA, Australia, Ireland…etc.etc.. all over the word. Especially I have discovered that there are several sites like (be2dating.ro, academicsingles.ro, singles50.ro) all if the same company:
be2 S.à.r.l. 13 rue du Commerce, L-1351 Luxembourg
Commercial Register : B123206
Managing Director : Laetitia Pateau

I have not received any notification at the end of the trial period, no notification that my contract will be extended, no notification that the payment has withdrawn from my account, I didn't gave them my consent to withdraw the money from my account and they used my number card and the CVV code without any right and authorisation.
On the payment form didn't wrote "Payment will be automatically withdrawn from your account next month"
The major question that rises is the following: As long as I have NOT given my consent to making the payment it is legal to withdraw from my account a sum of money HOW THEY WITHDREW THE MONEY?
Maybe I was fooled by the VERY small and grey handwriting in the footer of the initial payment form where it says that the subscription will automatically extend 1 month (300 RON) but it DID NOT say where "contract consideration, will automatically withdraw, without prior consent and expressly of the account holder ".
For the two payments: the first one I made worth 59.96 lei I did not receive any invoice, for the second payment of 300 RON, withdrawal made without my consent, I did not receive the invoice. At the first payment made by me appears to the type of "online" transaction, at the second retreat, I say fraudulently, without my consent, the type of transaction is "POS". From the bank they told me it can be a virtual POS and I can withdraw money from anywhere in the world...
Once the initial payment for the so-called "Premium member" Price is no longer appearing anywhere on that site, not to mention that the payment method cannot be changed because the user no longer has access!
Since December 2, I tried to talk to them but their answer is standard….. As I have read and accepted the contractual conditions But under the contractual conditions it does not write that the next payment (300 RON) will withdraw without agreement or prior notice!

misleading advertising practices and misleading omissions, unethical charges
Academic singles (https://www.academicsingles.hr/) advertise themselves in Croatia as a website for matching people with a university degree and who are single. I decided to pay 79 kn (10 EUR) for one month, never noticing the little letters that the service would be automatically charged for 400 kn (54 EUR) in case I do not cancel the contract 14 days before the end of that 1-month period. The service was awful. The website is full of fake profiles and "dead" (not used any more) profiles and around 50% of the people there are without the university degree and non-singles. I had no intention of prolonging the service, but I was automatically charged 400kn. Actually my bank card expired, so they could not take the money from my account, but threaten me now with a debt collector. In the meantime they blocked my access to my account which was still in use so that other users could still contact me. When I told them that they were violating my rights and misusing my identity according to
GDPR REGULATION (EU) 2016/679 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation), they closed my account but still want me to pay 400 HRK. Now they want me to pay for the service which was cancelled. I did send them a contract rescission request and reported them to some EU regulatory bodies. They are breaching
the DIRECTIVE 2006/114/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 12 December 2006 concerning misleading and comparative advertising. They are not what they advertise themselves for and they do not warn you in a visible and clear way that your account would be further charged. This is the worst service I have ever seen and the customer service is awful. I hope this will help some people.

EU directives have won! Eu consumer law is very clear and precise, protecting the consumer to a very high degree. I have managed to cancel my Premium Membership without any further charges.
The author of the above complaint.
I've had exactly the same too - there needs to be much wider information about this shockingly bad service - people might like to know that the Director can be reached via linked in which gives more scope for publicly commenting on very very bad business practice https://www.linkedin.com/in/laetitia-pateau-1a286315/detail/recent-activity/
I am in South Africa. I managed to cancel my credit card a few days ago before they swindled me of ZAR999 yet I had only agreed to 28days at ZAR196. They are threatening legal action I am awaiting the action. I am prepared to fight to the finish. I won't pay for a service I stopped using
Hello, i have exactly the same issues as EmaT from Hungary, only differences is that was happen in Roumania - > singleacademics.ro .
premium membership
I barely managed to cancel my premium membership last month. I was charged for that month even if I wasn't using the servis at all, and now I see that I have been charged for this month also and I am not a member any more.
This is outrageous, you are using people's misfortune and misery to earn money, ok, we are the idiots here actually believing there is a outside solution to our problems, but you are continuing to charge your services even when you are not providing any! How you dare!? Is is nearly impossible to navigate your site, but I managed so what is happening now?
'dating' site
So, I signed up for Academic Singles where you are supposed to be able too meet people who have higher degrees for dating. First profile I saw on the site mispelled the word college...that's when I sent them a e-mail too cancel my membership. The card I used was cancelled and if they threaten me with collection agencies, well...going to police with it. The site is a total scam...what is worse, its advertised as a secure site...as if...so basically...yeah...don't go there, don't sign up unless you want too see so called college graduates not be able too spell the word ''About'' :/
online dating

I have cancelled my membership before the end of the month
But they tried to charge me without taking in concideration my cancellation.
dating website
A list of New Zealand's top 10 dating sights came up on my Instagram feed so I thought I'd check it out. I hadn't heard of Academic Singles but they came in quite high on the list so I thought Id have a look.
You had to join up for free in order to have a look at the website so I did that. The website was very smart and well designed and on my first look there was a nice doctor at the local hospital so I thought the website was ok.
After a while I decided to take a paid membership - this was 29 Sep 2017 - It was $59.95 (later I saw they had increased the 3 month membership to$89.95) for 3 months. Straight away I noticed that there were multiple profiles with the same pictures - and almost no-one replied to emails messages which I thought was a bad sign.
I then decided to look out of my area for new people but found that updating my search criteria did not change the search results. I went into the FAQ section on the website but couldn't find an FAQ for my problem so looked for a customer services email contact. I found one but where is said 'contact customer services here" there was no link or email address...it was like the coder just didn't put the link in.
It was at this stage I checked my credit card and found they had debited my card on 29 September for $269.70 from a company called Be2.com. I eventually found a confirmation email from Academic Singles which was in my spam folder. The confirmation email said they had charged me $269.70 and included a whole list of terms and conditions that were not provided on the website prior to putting in my credit card details.
The confirmation email said that the subscription would renew automatically at the end of the period at which tine, if renewed an additional charge would be added. This additional charge was not specified.
I emailed Be2 and told them that they were a scam, that the people they had matched me with were mainly made-up profiles with the same pictures and people that were no academic singles at all but looked like they had hacked the database of the local prison for mugshots.
I told them I was cancelling my subscription and that I wanted a refund of the $269.70 as I had not authorised them to debit my credit card for that amount.
I also told them they had breached the terms and conditions by not providing the service they advertised and debiting me more on 29 September than I had authorised.
I told them they were a scam.
I did not hear back from them in the 48 hours that they said they would reply within in their confirmation email. They never replied to this email at all.
I rang my bank and they immediately told me about this website and told me there were a number of similar complaints and it looked like this was a scam website.
They told me my only option was to put in a formal dispute which I did providing them with a copy of my 12 November email to Be2. On receiving my dispute the bank reversed the credit card charge but told me Be2 had 45 days to dispute the reversal. They cancelled my card.
I did not hear from Be2 or my bank until recently when Be2 tried to debit my card for another $269.70. It failed as my bank had cancelled my credit card. Be2 started sending me threatening emails saying they were adding collection charges. The $269.70 went to $318.70 and then 7 days later went to $607.40.
I have since sent Be2 3 or 4 emails saying I have no contract with them and that I cancelled my membership but could not delete my profile as they had blocked my access but I wanted it removed. I also threatened to sue them for damages and to make a complaint to the Serious Fraud office and to have their website removed.
They then actually replied! They said that I had not sent a 'sufficient cancellation' but as a 'gesture of goodwill' would accept the outstanding payment and then cancel my membership.
I replied with my previous response that we had no contract, I owed them no money and told them to cease and desist etc.
Tonight they sent me the same email as they did 2 days ago and I have replied again with a similar message to all my messages to them. Their tone is a lot more polite now and all the threats have stopped and they gave me access to my profile which I duly deleted. They still want the 2nd subscription but haven't mentioned the first one which was reversed.
After 2 calls to my bank in the last week about the status of the charge to my credit card, my bank has emailed me tonight to say Be2's bank has sent through a copy of my 'documentation' which is basically Be2's confirmation email with all my details and my bank has given me ten days to respond or they will have no option but to redebit me.
Obviously they just looked at how proper and normal the email from Be2 looked and didn't read my letter of complaint (again).
I've since responded to the bank and I am sure once they re-read my letter and look at this website they will realise that this is a pretty big scam.
I payed when I made my account 60 lei and on 13th august you took from my account 300 lei.
For what?
I want my money back.
I will complain about this.
Please cancel my account.
