I have had a very frustrating experience with my Acer laptop. I have had to replace the right-side hinge twice since its purchase in November 2022.
Please bear in mind, this laptop has been gently used and has remained stationary on secure table. The lid has not been t closed more than 20 times. It has only been transported once in a laptop carrier, where it remained stationary for 10 days.
The first time the hinge broke it was only 8 mo. old (June 2023). It was repaired by uBreakiFix and came back like new. Unfortunately, the same hinge broke again in February 2024. I cannot stress the fact more that there was no reason for the damage. I am the only one who uses this computer, and it has never been dropped.
When I researched for information about the purchase of a computer, I focused on the operating system. I never expected that there would be a problem with the physical construction of the computer itself. I did visit the Acer website and found that a number of people have registered complaints about their laptop hinges on various models. There also was a post from an Acer representative that chided consumers about closing their laptops!
I would like to add that I have two previous laptops that have no physical damage. One is a Dell which is 20 years old, and the other is a Toshiba which is 12 years old. They both have been opened and closed many times and are still fully operational. I am now retired, and this computer has existed in a very stress-free environment.
Claimed loss: $240.00
Desired outcome: I would like Acer to offer and improved hinge replacements. I also think they should offer a reimbursement to have these hinges installed.I also think they should apologize for this lapse in quality control.
