I've been disputing my bills w/them since October 2025. My bills spiked very suddenly (200% more than my previous highest bill) and I can prove that the usage they reported did not match my actual usage. They sent out "inspectors" that caused actual property damage in their haste to "get away" after I saw them outside (no safety gear, no ID) and they did not actually inspect the meter according to AES procedures (conveyed to me by an AES rep) but told me only "the meter is fine". I continued to push back and sent out a huge email with questions and demands about every aspect of the process w/a bunch of corporate emails and local gov reps cc'd, to which finally someone higher up the chain did respond, albeit in an incredibly dismissive, condescending manner. I've spent hours of research on this, and AES is in the news for illegally spiking bills like this, and the rep acted as though I just "didn't know how heat worked".
I respond to her initial response w/follow-up questions and demands, and she said that "they were working on it" and then ghosted me (looking at you, Tammy Harmon). I have not heard from them for months, but I email and call them constantly. I have filed w/the BBB, the IURC, and literally anywhere else that will hear me out. It isn't just me — AES has a monopoly on certain areas and are suddenly spiking bills for customers who don't have the time/energy to fight back or do the research, and are left unable to pay, and some of it is related to data centers too. They are under a huge investigation, and they are panicking. I personally plan on being as loud as possible about this for as long as it takes for the sake of both myself and my community, because I'm not going to let some multi-million dollar corporation (& recent BlackRock acquisition) bankrupt a bunch of low-income households without a fight. If you see this and you've experienced the same thing, please keep posting about it and keep contacting AES & your local reps as much as you can.
Desired outcome: I would like direct communication with a qualified member of management able to discuss inaccuracies with my bill as soon as possible.
