AFNI COLLECTIONS HUGE SCAM!!!
as well as many other people i have recieved a "settlement offer" for the amount of "$50.00" on a "$539.18" t-mobile bill that was past due since 2003. i called the 800 # and spoke to a man who @ the time sounded as if he really was from a debt collection agency and when he asked for my last four # of my SS # he gave me my name which threw a red flag up. also as i was taking a second look @ the letter they mailed me, it didnt really look like a letter that a collection agengcy would mail out(usually collection agencies are through lawyers offices). another thing that came to me was, why if t-mobile hasn't attempted to contact me about this so called matter, 6 years later would a collection agency do so. i checked my credit report and there isnt even such a thing on it, so obviously this fake company with fake workers is a real scam and the people on the other end of the phone need to be caught and arrested for stealing not only peoples money but their identity and information and everyone needs to be more cautious on supplying info over the phone or through the mail!

fraudulent collections
My wife was sent a collection notice from Afni, Inc, saying her account with TDS (phone company) was overdue for around $250.
A few problems with this:
1) The last time she lived in an area TDS served was in the early part of 2001.
2) We received the bill in November, 2009. 8 1/2 years!
3) The bill was in her maiden name, and we have been married for more than 3 years. No prior attempt has ever been made to collect such a debt (I have been with her since 2002, and we've never had TDS-- I make it a point not to!).
4) I researched a little: Statute of limitations to collect debt through courts is 6 years in this case (Wisconsin), and the max usually stated is 8 years. Credit bureaus can't take reports of delinquent accounts after 7 years, so long as you tell them that this account has not been active for more than 7 years (and active includes using the account, calling about it, etc.).

Scam
My husband received a Settlement Offer from Afni about a Verizon bill in which we paid (50.00) because he has a lot of debt that he needed to pay from screwing up when he was younger, so I figured it was just another debt that he owed. Then we got a second one for a AT&T Mobility that I tried looking up and researched and now I am finding that they are fraudulent. Is there is any way to get our $50.00 back from them? I am not going to pay them for the AT&T and wrote them a letter disputing this charge and trying to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

Bogus charges
They sent us a collection notice for $246.77 original creditor being Verizon California. Well the strange thing is the bill came on my wife and her ex husband name to our address which is located over 2500 miles away. They mentioned that the account is for a phone number which my wife never had before, and she lived in Redondo Beach, which is not true...

This week. My 65 year old mother received a collection bill from AFNI for $285. She has not had an account with AT&T for over 15 years.
When I called AFNI, [protected], a person by the name of Natradine? answered the phone. She wants the last four digits of my mothers social security number to retrieve the account. I informed her, I have already entered the account number when I called in. Why do you need a social security number? She said it was needed to retrieve my mothers account.
When I informed her my mother is a retiree who has not had an AT&T account for over 15 years. I asked her where they got their information from. She said they got it from AT&T and are trying to collect a debt.
I told her, "thank you for letting me know. This message has been recorded and will be submitted to the MN Attorney Generals Office, " She was speechless and surprised. She tried to ask for last four numbers of my mothers social security number again, but I would not budge. I told her, they should seize scamming elders for money because the law will catch-up to them and I hung-up.
I was extremely upset because my mothers identity was stolen five years ago and used to open-up an account in Georgia for a gas card. A collection agency sent her a bill for $578.00. The case was reported to our local police department and submitted to the collection agency. The collection agency has stopped calling and sending letters to harass my mother after the police got involved.
Its amazing what can happen to anyone. So many crooks out there. They should all get the death penalty!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
It's not the collection agency that is the problem.
The person who stole your mothers identity probably opened up all kinds of credit and accounts for things you have not even heard about yet.
You can ignore this and they will eventually stop calling - and it will remain on your mothers credit as a black mark that will prevent her from getting a loan, taking out a mortgage or renewing her current one, buying or renting anything that requires a credit check. It will also prevent her from cosigning on loans and services for other family members.
The longer you wait the less likely anyone (including the police) will be to believe her or be willing to help. I worked for a very short time for a collection agency and had no choice but to tell a man to pay for a debt that was over 5 years old. He too had been the victim of identity theft but he had intentionally let it sit for so long and been so uncooperative that both the agency and the police were unwilling to believe him. He only wanted to resolve it so he could get a new mortgage and because he had no interest in dealing with it before then, no one would believe his story. He ended up paying over $3, 000.
About 90% of the people who legitimately owe money say that they were the victim of fraud or identity theft as a way to avoid paying their bills. Another fact is that only about 5% of the people who are legitimate victims of fraud or identity theft are willing to report it through proper channels. Just because you've denied owing money, hung up the phone, refused to pay, etc does not mean anything. Businesses need proof! Without it, the debt remains YOUR problem. Denial, anger and avoidance is a common tactic of "professional deadbeats." Anything less than a call to police with proper follow up makes you look just like them.
It would be in your best interest to call the collection agency and cooperate. They already have her correct information - all they're trying to do it verify they have the right person for legal reasons. Get the information on the debt, ask for an invoice and original account information - like account number and service address (if available). Then CALL THE POLICE. Report this debt as identity theft. No matter how poorly you feel the collection agency treated you, remember they are just trying to collect this debt. It's the debt and where it came from that's the problem. DO NOT file it as a complaint against the collection agency. If you feel that the collection agency broke the law or engaged in unfair or illegal practices then follow that up as a separate compliant.
Wrongly Billed for acct never owned
I received a bill stating my neice (who just turned 21) has and overdue account with Verizon Norht INC. from several years ago to the tune of 598.05 cents and that they are willing to settle the account for $50.00.
Firstly the phone number listed in refernce to this account was never owned by anyone in our family.
Secondly my neice has lived overseas for 4 years now and could not have opened an account in PA since she was in teh DOmincan Rebublic and
Thirdly she was a under age minor at the time who would have not be LEGALLY able to open an account of any type.
We believe this is a scam or identity theft. To my knowledge Verizon didn't even have stores in that area at that time or offer local phone service which has always been with Bell.

An afni "Collection Notice" was delivered to my address indicating that I owe DirecTV $404.41.
I spent many hours wrenching my brain trying to figure out how this could have happened. I guess the initial shock affected me more than I realized at first because after talking it over, and calming down, I realized that I have never been a customer of DirecTV. EVER!
I'm going to bother afni... just the way they bothered me.
collection notice
I received collection notice for disconnected phone by Verizon for $82.12. I never had the phone they listed. I have been with another company for 5 years and I never received a bill before regarding such bill from Verizon. How do I save my credit from this apparent rip-off?
L. Kanov M.D.
This company sent me a collection notice on a bill, they claim I have with AT&T Mobility. For the sum of $494.05, which I never had a phone with AT&T service . I never had a cell phone, that I had a contract with . I don't know were they are getting this info from .But they have the wrong person . Please help me and others from getting harassed by them in the future .. Thank You
That is a tough one since Verizon is pretty vicious. Get an attorney.
Collection bill for phone service

AFNI Collections has horrible customer service! I work in customer service and you need to be able to talk to people like they're humans not just money. I was extremely frustrated when I received a bill from Verizon for a phone that was disconnected in 2006. I never received anything from Verizon or from Afni Collections until today, almost 3 years after the phone service was shut off. I asked the customer service rep to assist me with a dispute and she basically told me no, we want our $30. I then asked for a supervisor 4 times, after the agent flat out refused to help me. I was placed on hold and never spoke with anyone. The agent also informed me that my account was about to go to collections after only receiving one notice. I never even got the agents name, since the first thing out of her mouth was account number and name. I've dealt with collections agencies in my line of work and Afni Collections is by far the worst in customer service.

If you are in arrears and not paying your bills then you are no longer a customer - customers pay their bills. Why would you expect preferential treatment for being a deadbeat?
The Truth
Well here is the truth folks, i have worked for afni for two years... and yes we are a real company been around for about 40+ yrs.
To start I have been reading over some of these comments on diffrent web site and I feel there is a few things that need to be made clear. Most people are saying we are "Fraud" or collecting on fake debt, so i think this is a good place to start. We are not fraud we are a debt buying company also we do Subrogation and consumer support as well. As for collection fake debt that is completely incorrect, we dont just send notice on bills for fun. We buy bulk files from cell, landline, cable companys so that means we get millions of accounts at a time most the time these are old accounts by old i mean I myself have seen bills dateing back to 1990, so with buying accounts this way most of the companies we buy from have bought out other companys, so befor you say you have never had verizon, that is a vary unlikely statement because Verizon has bought out most of all the major landland companys such as GTE, Bell, Time Warrner, the list goes on and on, so the moral of that is, if you have EVER had a home phone, Well my friend there is a 80% chance they are owned by someone else . That same subject goes for cell phones if anyone rembers we didnt always just have the 8 major cell phone comp. around, NO we have regional carries all over the the place! And sorry these companies didnt just fall off the face of the earth they were bought out, so there you go if you get a T-moblie or who-ever bill from us just take a second think about it befor you call screaming or being rude. Oh and as for old bills... This is a big one
*THERE IS NO STATUTE OF LIMITATION ON THE COLLECTION OF A DEBT!* You have NO idea how many people get this law wrong You can collect on a debt forever, what is misrepresented here is that there is statues on taking legal action and credit listing, so *yes we cannot sue you or list it to your credit forever but, that bill doesnt go away! * Also, people say we dont vaildate date that is so far from wrong its crazy... our company will vaildate an account at any time just ask, if we cannot the account WILL be closed. We do go back to what ever company it is make sure it is still owing and also starting this year on cell, landline we also send a bill copy or proof from the cell companys records, and just to be clear we ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SEND YOU A CONTRACT OR ALL BILLCOPIES! The FDCPA no where states that it states vailidation which is going bk to the comp and checking if it is owing, So please STOP acting like the law says you have to recive that. Further more, dont go on-line and read some "jo-blow's" blog about the laws like FDCPA or FCRA... go to the fedral trade coms. website, THE PEOPLE THAT GET ON LINE AND TELL YOU WHAT THAT LAW "STATES" IS TELLING YOU WHAT THEY THINK IT MEANS! AND 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES IT SO WRONG THAT IF YOU SAW THE ACTUAL LAW YOU WOULD CALL YOURSELF STUPID. So do your self a favor and actually reseach information from the GOVERMENT AGNT. that wrote it!
The last thing i have to say is, alot of people this we are rude, mean people just out to get them, well newsflash when you call us your not calling a cusomer service hotline! your calling a collection agent, So no we are not going to tell you whatever you want hear, and no when you call in and say you never had it, or you paid it..ofcourse we are going to ask questions and find out whats going on, do you really think we would say
"ok! have a great day!" Come on now thats dumb. 9 out of 10 times if you actually LISTEN to what we are saying you realize " oh i didnt pay that" or "oh i did cosign for someone" " oh i did have that company"
And most of all something that just drives me NUTS is when you people call in and act rude, yell, curse, or act like you just got you law degree from reading on a few web site...That will get you no where! Being rude or yelling just pisses us off then we are less likely to help you resolve anything! We are not bad people here what we do is legal and we take pride in our work many people thank us for helping them resolve something they couldnt. And yes i know debt collectors get a bad rep. but trust me call another collectio agentcy like NCO and we look like damn Marry Poppins! So the next time you have a bad day and get a letter or just want to call and be RUDE just write a letter and save you self from screwing up someone elses day.
that shows a heathy mental stand point... hope you feel better now.
(p.s. there are doctors and med's that help just a helpful hint)
Yeah the company i work from doesnt handle any accounts from Fingerhut... we are AFNI INC. or Anderson Fin. Network inc...we only deal w/ verizon service and cell phones and cable like Nextel and At&t. My personal suggestion it to be careful with those pre-wrote dispute letters, some are worded in a way that some collection agents dont consider them letters of dispute. But if they released you of the debt thats great, just make sure you NEED to get a letter stating that, I know that alot of those companies are a bit shady just be safe and make sure you get one.

Dear Madam/Sirs:
I am writing in response to your derogatory reference inputted into my credit report.
I do not believe I owe what you say I owe and, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692g, Section 809(b) and FCRA.
I also request that if you have reported me to any credit reporting agency, that you inform them that I have placed this alleged debt in dispute and to provide me with proof that you have done so. Furthermore, I asked that you immediately send a copy of that dispute letter to the creditor that you say I owe money so they are also aware of my dispute with this alleged debt.
If you fail to respond, I consider this matter closed. You may consider this letter your official notification that I do not intend to correspond with you on this matter again unless you comply with my requests, the FDCPA and the FCRA. Your actions are also in violation of MGL chapter 93A and its sub-sections.
Any further attempt to collect and/or continue to falsely report this disputed information on my personal credit file without complying to the above stated provisions will be deemed as non-compliance and you will be held liable under 15 USC 1692 (k) (civil liability) to one or more of the following:
All actual damage sustained by me as a result of such failure;

Sincerely,

I received a collection notice from Afni Inc. that looks very suspicious. It is for an old Bell Atlantic (now Verizon) bill I supposedly never paid. For those of you who wish to dispute bogus collection claims, this website is very helpful. It refers to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and explains how to dispute a claim. I would advise, even if you think a collection is valid, to dispute it anyway. These collection companies operate in a very murky way and they need to be pressured to operate in a more honest and transparent manner.
http://www.expertlaw.com/library/consumer/fair_debt_collection.html
In short, the website advises you to submit a letter disputing a claim within 30 days of receiving the notice. They have a form letter online that you can use. From that point forward, they can only contact you once, in writing, providing documentation proving the claim, and what, if any, action they intend to take.
I referred back to the original source documents on the FTC website and the website's guidance looks to be wholly accurate and appropriate.
I have credit guard and in late April 2007, I received an alert indicating changes in my report. Obviously, I value my credit rating or I would not subscribe to Credit Gaurd. Well, "low and behold", AFNI has reported a collection items from Verizon that is more than 7-years old.
So I submitted a certified letter to them, indicating this must be fraud and please provide me documentation (itemized statement, signature, etc). I only received a summary statement and in researching, I discovered this was fraud committed on my college age daughter's calling card which I had given her.
Well when this occurred, we filed a police report and the person name who did it. Ironically, AFNI provide me a summary bill which reflects a credit for more than $1.100.00. Well Verizon acknowledge the fraud and told me I would receive credit.
Now I'm discovering that I was not given a full credit and they sold AFNI the so called debt and now they wont discuss with me and told me to call AFNI.
In an effort to save me more frustration and attempt resolve without getting legal counsel, I sent a letter and a check, requesting by endorsing and cashing the check, they will agree to remove it.
Well, I see the checked was cashed on 6/29/07 and will wait to see if it will be removed. I will remain committed to getting this gross injustice resolve and off my credit reports.
Before I start, search this website just for "Afni" as opposed to "Afni, Inc" or "Afni Collections" and you will find a lot more results.
Same story as everyone else. A Verizon bill 10 years old. They can't provide any documentation on Verizon letter head. Cant explain why nobody contacted me in 10 years. Cant set up a payment plan. All they can do is accept a full payment over the phone, and if I say "no" then I am refusing to pay and my debt will go further into the system.
These guys are great.
I had a phone call by an operator from AFNI, 01/06/2011 and she stated, (with a mouth full of marbles) that myself and only myself
is the target for her message, they were trying to collect a debit from me, when I have none at all. so i called my verzion comp. and asked the nice lady there if i were to call this # if it would be a scam to get a heavy phone bill? well she done the right thing and googled it.
much to my surprise it was a # for AFNI. so I googled it... surprise, I got a scam page from it.. thus sending me here. I do not know what the collection was for but, I don't trust this and do not believe you should either. if your clean that is. out of debt.
I received a negative report on my credit report and i called the AFNI company . When i called about the 36.00 charge i was told that i had 3 claims with them but the year dated back over ten years ago and the addresses didn't match when i lived there. this company should not be allowed to be in business. I have already contacted my lawyer because i had a past identity theft issue.
Afni has made a fortune by lying to consumers and reporting bogus debts to the credit bureaus. There is nothing in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) that states any consumer is obligated to provide that type information to a debt collector. The burden of proof rests solely on them and it is obvious that by sending out such a form letter, that Afni is blind to the debts they collect. A check of Pacer, for on-line federal lawsuits shows more than 165 suits where Afni is named. This does not begin to count the possibly hundreds filed in various state courts. You do not want to provide Afni with any information other than your name, address and reference numbers to the account they are attempting to collect. You should immediately dispute it with the credit bureaus as not my account so they cannot claim they were not aware of your dispute. The owner of Afni is Lisa A. Anderson, of Bloomington, IL. Our information is that she has very deep pockets and is capable of still paying off lawsuits. I strongly urge anyone dealing with Afni to consider legal actions on these bogus accounts. The very capable attorneys from www.myfaircredit.com have the ability to hold them liable for credit bureau reporting. You could receive compensation if they are successful in suing Afni as the law allows $1, 000.00 in compensation. You could also have your attorney fees paid, so it is worthwhile to at least consult with a consumer law professional. Does Lisa Anderson allow her company to extort money from innocent consumers by credit bureau placement? Let the law work for you by going after Afni and holding them accountable for their actions. This is a scam-gone way out of control. The laws need to be changed so that Afni's are not allowed to screw consumers with their lies and phony reporting. Go after them, make her pay!

I have no idea who these people are let alone having used the creditor they claim to be representing. Nor am I in bankruptcy.
I received a bill in the mail stating that I owed Afni 438.00 for a bill from a long time ago. The number listed was a Washington State phone number ( a land line) and it was from 1996. I have not lived in Washington, I live in Tn and did so in 1996. When I called afni they said it was tied to names John and Deborah and asked if I knew them. The scary thing was they gave my husbands social! I refused to give any socials to them and I told them to give me the one they had on file and they gave me my husbands ssn! I found this was from a verizon land line and phoned verizon... needless to say verizon had no history of such a bill and concluded we had no bill with them ever! I was alarmed and filed the necessary complaints with bbb and verizon and put a FRAUD alert on our credit reports since we were in the process of buying a home. This is very important to do! I received a "letter" from Afni stating they were sorry for the mistake and had corrected the problem with my "account".
BEWARE!
AFNI sent me to collection. My credit score went from 780 to 595 and guess how i figured that out? I applied for a mortgage...Never late on a payment, what happened is that i lived in a house with many roomates. i moved out, cancelled the service, they never did, my ex roomates continued to use the service...This was their mistake for not cancelling the service, i contacted Verizon to have it cancelled. This happened in 2001, we are early 2009 and they ruined my credit and all the projects i have, i am so deceived and disgusted...
Wireless Cellular
I received a collections letter stating that I owe T-Mobile $690.04 and that I need to pay or else they will report me to the Credit Bureau. I knew immediately this was bogus because I have been a client of another wireless provider for the past more than 10 years and I have never been remissed on payment of bills. Should I even bother to respond to this?
Read full review of Afnitime barred debt
Afni sent a letter offering a supposed great deal of offering a settlement for only $400 for a debt that was originally over $1000. The only thing is... this is a time barred debt. The statute of limitations is up on this debt and was up over 6 years ago. This debt was from 1997, and another collection agency had already tried to collect on it. When we sent them a cease and desist letter telling them that the SOL was up, and not to contact us again, they apparently sold it to these losers. We are sending them a cease and desist letter and telling them the same as we told the last zombie debt collector. If they think that we are going to jump at this so-called deal and pay them they are nuts. Not happening.
A lot of people are getting collection notices from AFNI regarding old bills from Verizon. Well, there is a way this can stop! If you receive a letter from AFNI, call the Federal Trade Commission 1-877-FTC-HELP and file a complaint. They take your information and assign you a reference number.
All you have to do is send a certified letter to AFNI telling them that the statute of limitations has passed regarding the debt and you don't have to pay it according to your state law.
When the FTC receives enough complaints, they will go after AFNI!
FRAUD FRAUD FRAUD. EVERYONE - SEND A LETTER TO EACH STATE'S ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE LISTED ON THE LETTER FROM AFNI (MINE HAD ILLINOIS & TEXAS) PLUS TO YOUR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL. ALSO, SEND TO FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION, FBI, BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND THE ALLEGED COMPANY YOU OWE MONEY TO. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAKE ANY CALLS OR ANYTHING ELSE - JUST WRITE THE LETTER. ALSO SEND COPIES TO ALL THREE CREDIT BUREAUS - THEY MUST POST THE LETTER TO YOUR ACCOUNT.
ALSO, DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GIVE THEM YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER...SINCE THEY ARE ALREADY COMMITTING FRAUD, WHAT'S TO STOP THEM FROM TAKING YOUR IDENTITY.
I just checked my credit report today after being declined a loan. I found aitem on there for AFNI, INC that said i have a $716 debt to sprint with an account that was opened in January of 07. I feared identity theft and contacted Sprint. They told me about an old account that was closed May of 03.
AFNI had clearly engaged in illegal account reading in violation of the FCRA!
I will be calling the FTC first thing in the morning as well as sending a certified mail demand to AFNI that they fix the illegal reading of the account or I will sue them for their violation of the FCRA.

OMG... I just paid this bill with AFNI trying to clear this up. It was just under the 10 year limit. Does this mean that I still owe the bill to Verizon? omg... That's what I get for being honest and trying not to get out of paying a bill. DUPED!
Fake billing statement
I received a bill from AFNI, Inc for $334.07. In this bill they offer me a settlement of half, $167.04. I called them and this was for a house I lived at over 10 years ago...Are you kidding me ? All of the bills in that house were listed under my Father-in-Law's name. Not mine. This is total crap. After reading all these complaints on here Im damn sure not going to pay this. These people are out of there minds. Im following the proper steps to basically tell them there full of it. I can only hope everyone else does the same. Lets show these clowns who there dealing with. Im not putting up with it, and neither should anyone else.

Two days ago I get a letter from AFNI telling me I have an outstanding Phone Bill from Verizon in Buffalo NY from 2002. I call and tell them I have been in Rochester NY since March of 2000 since I moved here for a new job. The lady on the phone did not care all she kept saying was 'sir I can settle this for you now for about half of what you owe'. I kept telling her this is not my bill I am not paying it.
I called back yesterday and spoke to another lady to get all the information. Very odd it's an address I lived at for just over a year. I moved out in the beginning of March in 2000, verizon has verified I had a phone shut off at that time. Somehow in June of 2000 a new phone when on in my name there, it stayed on until Jan. of 2002. I have proof that I have lived here as I signed a new Lease in May of 2000 (I moved in with a friend for the end of march and all of april while I found my own place) and even have Time Warner sending me proof that I had my phone turned on here in May of 2000. This lady said they 'might take that into consideration'.
My question is what else could they possibly need as proof that Someone else made a mistake here?

I just got a call from this number. A woman told me that she was trying to collect a debt. She said it was from a Qwest bill from 2008 and that I still owed $100. I told her that I've had Verizon for about 7 years and I have absolutely no accounts in collections. She then said that even though they are a collection agency the debt hadn't actually gone to collections. She then said that I had made three payments two years ago and I still owed $100. I have made NO PAYMENTS to any sort of collection company in the past two years, mainly because I have no accounts in collections. FYI, I haven't had a Qwest account since 2001, which she didn't know about. She also "verified my information" by giving me my last two digits of my SSN and my VERY OLD address, which is my mom's. She said that they had been mailing me notifications for payment for the last two years, which is a lie. Obviously when I receive mail at my mom's house she gives it to me. This has SCAM written all over it. I asked her to send me the payment/account/collections information via mail and I would have my attorney look over it. I believe this to be complete BS. I don't owe any collection company any money, let alone for a Qwest bill that I had over 10 years ago. Sounds like a scam artist(s) fishing for money.
I just received a notice of "another attempt to collect a debt" saying I owe ATT
(formerly Bell South) $587.16 but for a payment of $50.00 the debt will be 'paid in full'. There is no original date nor account number. Wouldn't one or both be included on a collection? I don't know, I have never received one before. And furthermore, if there was an oustanding balance of this amount would a collection agency ask for a one time payment of well less than 10%? Seems like a scam to me especially since the last time I dealt with Bell at least 25 years ago in another state more than 1000 miles away.
THIS IS A SOLID FEDERAL CLASS-ACTION FOR FDCPA VIOLATIONS. I SAY WE FIGHT BACK! There are some solid California attorneys who can help all of us victimized by AFNI. I say we form a group on this board and submit our case to a reputable lawyer who will hold AFNI accountable for their outrageous collection tactics. Reply to me and maybe we can make a difference.

I will not be surprised when I learn that AFNI is changing dates of last activity on credit reports, such is the scam of these bottom feeders. They do this to inflate the net worth of their portfolios, so they can borrow more money to buy junk debts. These are the lowest of the low life's, which collect debts.
CONSUMERS ARE WARNED NOT TO FALL FOR THEIR SCAM OF ATTEMPTING TO COLLECT ON TIME BARRED DEBTS FROM CELLULAR ACCOUNTS THAT DATE BACK TO THE EARLY 90'S. AFNI CANNOT SUE ON THESE DEBTS, THEY CANNOT REPORT THEM ON YOUR CREDIT FILES. AFNI IS HURTING FOR COLLECTION ACCOUNTS & PAID PENNIES FOR THIS WORTHLESS PORTFOLIO, HOPING TO CASH IN. THIS IS A SCAM -- YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY ON THESE OLD, OUTDATED ACCOUNTS!

ME TOO AS OTHER PEOPLE ARE BEING SENT A COLLECTION LETTER FROM AFNI.TO MY SURPRISE AFTER READING ALL THESE COMPLAINTS I FEEL SOMEWHAT RELIVED BUT NOW MY QUESTION IS HOW CAN I REMOVE THIS FROM MY CREDIT HISTORY?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
It probably isnt even on your credit history. Go to the annualcredit.com and find out if there is anything even on your credit from whoever afni is saying that you owe. Even if there is, dont send money to afni. call whoever it is that you owe and explain to them and go from there. Thats what i did. Afni is a fraud, point blank.
I had a sprint bill that was over due, but for the amount that AFNI had asked me to pay was not the amount
of my last bill, nor was it the amount that sprint asked me for payment, they asked me for $600.00 more
then sprint asked me to pay. With the way the world is today, we dont need to try and beat people out of there
money. its not right.think about it being your parents and they don't have the extra money to pay so there
credit is in trouble because of greediness .please stop this stealing from people.
false collections
Rec'd a letter stating I owe money to Verizon. This is highly unlikely because I have had verizon accounts. Which does not allow you to have open new accounts if you have a open balance. This company seems very suspect. I was going to paid the balance so my credit is not impacted but after attemping to access the website. I came across hundreds of compliants against this company for the same scenario that I have described. Any information that any one can provide on next steps would be greatly rec'd.
We must fight to stop these type practices
Thanks

I have had two encounters with this company recently. Log onto www.afnicollections.com/fraud and you have to enter your account # they give you on your notice. Dispute the bill and list it as fraud. They will after two weeks send you a letter confirming it is fraud. Also file a report online with the Better Business Bereau (illinois) and they will ensure this company responds to you. I recently received 2 bills from them for Verizon...both of them supposedly opened at the same time at different addresses. This company is a total scam because if you contact them via telephone they are very disrespectful and will not provide you with a copy of the bills, telling you that you are not entitled to see the bills. Lodge your complaints both of the ways I have told you at the same time and your problem will be resolved within two weeks.
Good Luck!
Fraudulent collection notice
Afni, inc. tried to collect on some disputed dept that T-MOBILE had written off. The amount was only $32.68, but I was unwilling to fork over any money in this difficult economy. I investigated Oregons law and found out that I was entitled to all information regarding the debt. When I tried to get afni to fax over the information they hung up on me. Subsequent phone calls finally resulted in the ommission that they were cancelling my account with them : i.e.- they would no longer pursue the matter and would not report anything to the credit reporting agencies. I am still waiting for this confirmation in writing, but I am not holding my breath.

My nightmare with Afni began a few months ago with a letter stating they were attempting to collect a debt for a Verizon bill I paid (and have proof of payment) from 2000. Unfortunately, I have recently moved and all of my stuff is in storage in another state. Just having started a new job, I couldn't make arrangements to go to NJ to get my records. Knowing that I resolved this issue, I called Verizon and explained the issue. They told me they could not help me because once they sell a debt, they no longer have access to any of the records associated with that debt. They refused to help. However, miraculously, when I found a letter from January, 2001, from Verizon, thanking me for settling this issue, they sent Afni over $200 - for what, I'm not quite sure, as they said they had no records of my situation. Afni would not explain why Verizon made them a payment, either. They just sent me a new statement with the balance reflecting the Verizon payment. As my credit is very important to me, I paid the remaining balance. That was before I found this website and was shocked at how many people are dealing with the same fraudulent situation. I wrote to anyone who would listen - no one - and am now going to file a suit against Afni and, possibly, Verizon. This is absolutely criminal and unethical and they should be sued by as many people as who have the energy to fight this fight and deal with the frustration. They are counting on the fact that people have moved, don't keep old records, etc., and the fear around having one's credit ruined. This should not go unpunished! If anyone has any other suggestions as to what I can do, please let me know.
I am interested in knowing what were your next steps. I just rec'd letter from this company stating I owe this money. Which I know is impossible! I want to take action but I am not sure what I should do.
I will join your lawsuit! I just received letter in the mail today - collection notice claiming I owe over $300 for an old T-Mobile bill. I've NEVER had a T-Mobile account! They've messed with the wrong person here and I will fight until my dying day to make them pay for this. This is disgusting! I am filing a police report and having a very prominent ny atty write a certified letter to cease and desist and will copy the BBB, atty general and consumer affairs. I am also filing a fraud complaint with the credit agencies. Copies of complaints against Afni from others that have been scammed will be included as attachments to my letter. Also, Help Me Howard will hear about this as well. They don't call us the "fighting irish" for nothing!
Afni Collections has sent me a notice saying I owe qwest $616.00 . I have not done business with Qwest since 2002.
I am still waiting for documentation to support their claim. Everyone scammed by these losers should contact the Attorney Generals Office and report what they are doing. Notify the Better Business Bureau as well. There is power in numbers.
Same thing is happening to me. From a so said unpaid bill from 1999. Its 2008! Afni said they got the collections notice in 2006 and sent me a collections letter in 2007. They sent it to the wrong address and I have been out of the country. Now almost 10 years later I am getting a bill that is a complete suprise to me. So, why did Verizon not contact me? Why wait so many years that I have an inflated charge I know nothing about? Who can help me? Verizon is the culprit.
unpaid bill
My mom got a letter on Feb.11, 2017 stating that she owed Sprint $184.22. The Sprint bill is in my name and this sounded phony. I called the number provided and talked to someone named Kim who was more than happy to take a payment for half the amount due. I asked her for the dates of the orginal bill and she said May 2017 to Nov. 2017. When I asked for the phone number attached to the account she said she didn't have that information and we would receive papers validiting the bill in 30 days.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I got a phone call from this company telling me that I owed a Bell Atlantic Phone Bill for a landline phone from approx. 7 years ago for $379.32. They told me it was mine because it had my name on the bill and what is funny, I never lived at that address at that time! They sent me a bill recently asking to settle for half the amount. I will not pay this because it's not mine. I believe they are fraudulent from reading all the other reports from people that have dealt with them. I have checked my credit report and its fine! They should be checked for identity theft because they are problem doing this to many people!
I called this company and spoke to Molly who was very pleasant and said the account would be reviewed and someone would call me back in 30 days. Today I called back and spoke to SUE badge # 1033991 who should be a prison matron for her lack of manners. Scolding me and trying to con me into making a payment, for what you may ask? I lived in VA for 6 weeks and 5 years later they send me a bill for $100.
I know this bill was paid and there are no collections on my credit report which I check monthly. If it was real why did it take them 5 years to find me at the address I spent the first 25 years of my life? Plus it was sent in my maiden name which has legally been changed for 4 years!
Someone needs to stop this company from making bogus accusations and giving hard working people agida for debts that are paid.
AFNI sent me letters stating that I owed $356 for a Bell South land line. The address given was my parents address and I did not live there at the time I lived in another city two hours away and did not have a land phone and my parents did not open an account in my name. This item is showing on my credit report and it is a fraudulent account. I have disputed and the item has been verified with my parents address. How do I get this off my credit? I am not paying these people for a phone I have never had.
I received a collection notice stating I owe Qwest $616.00 from years ago. This is the first I have heard of this. I have not done business with this company in almost 7 years. My account is paid in full as of June 2017. What kind of scam are they trying to pull. I have requested specific information which I am still waiting for. These people are real losers.
AFNI has fraudulently attempted to collect a small amount from me saying it was a Verizon bill. I spoke with Verizon and they said I do not owe any money.
DO NOT give AFNI your social security number. They will fraudulently use it. If you do not pay them they will continue to bill you. It is important to file a complaint if you do not owe them money.

Afni collection agency is trying to charge me for a 2017 telephone bill of 293.00 which I already paid three years ago. Verizon confirmed that i have no outstanding debt with them but Afni collection sent be a bill on 09/10/08 of a collection notice. The customer service lady was very rude and inconsiderate. So i would like to dispute the validty of this debt. My Account # [protected]-02 disconnected Telephone #[protected]
On 9/14/07 AFNI states that they were given a bill to collect on from Verizon for Home Telephone Service in Florida that has been unpaid since May of 2017. Funny, my Verizon *cell phone* did not get turned off for the 3 years that I had it following this supposedly delinquent debt. This bill was supposedly exactly one month in duration (no more, no less) and was for a total of $80.82 (though their online database driven website said $80.81? Pretty bad record keeping, or perhaps FRAUD?)
The problem with their assertion is that though I did physically stay at the address in question for a brief period, around the time they say I racked up this bill, I was not living in Florida, nor would I have any use or need for a home phone, as I was visiting Florida and staying with an acquaintance of a friend, and still had my North Dakota cell phone with unlimited roaming (no charge!).
They claim that I had Florida residency at this address (false) and that I opened an account with Verizon for a home phone for exactly one month (also false). They then tell me that this will be reported on my credit history if I don't pay within 24 hours. They then said that if I paid them only $50 within the next 24 hours, they would not report this onto my credit, and then proceed to say that they cannot give me any written guarantee of this fact. I began to really get suspicious of this whole thing, as I knew that I hadn't had a home phone number since 1998! Why would I, with a good nation wide free roaming cell phone plan?
I searched the site, saw it's horrific BBB rating, and contacted the FTC. Turns out they have received numerous complaints about this fraudulent collections efforts. Everyone needs to go to www.consumer.gov/idtheft and download "Take Charge: Fighting Back Against Identity Theft". Print out the ID Theft Affidavit, fill it out, get it notarized, and mail it to AFNI certified mail. Also, call the FTC: [protected] (Option 4) and report the "identity theft" which caused the fraudulent account to be opened... AFNI most likely opened the fraudulent account themselves just so they could collect on it!
Don't give in! Don't give them a cent of your money! Fight back for your rights!
Identitity mismatch :The account of someone else with a similar name and a different social security number was put under my credit. All attempts to reach the co and resolve have been futile
I received a letter just like this except a different amount.
Afni Collections
Afni Collections — These rip-offs must be punished for what they are doing!
These rip-offs must be punished for what they are doing! I received a collections notice from Afni, Inc., also Afni Collections stating that I owed Verizon Communications a bill for an outrageous amount of $637.25. I only owe Verizon for my current phone service.
Verizon stated that I only owe for my current bill. I have never at anytime ever owed Verizon this amount. If I ever did, I seriously doubt if I would have any type of phone service available to me today.
I am scared! I just posted a settled amount half of what my original balance was for an old verizon no. that i had. Literally just posted and went back to browser to see more info about this company! Arghhhh!
This Company is commiting a crime
Yesterday I recieved a collection notice from Afni claiming I owed $184.20 on an old T-Mobile bill from 2003. When I called to dispute it I was told it was for T-Mobile home service from [protected]. They insisted I owed this old bill. I did some research. I call T-Mobile and they did not offer home service until Jan. 2009 and then only as supplement to cell phone account customers. They had no record of the account number on the notice and no record of my ever having an account with them. The whole thing was a fraud. What is so frightening is these identity theives are able to obtain our pertinent information to commit their crimes, I notified authorities but how are these criminals still in business?

I received a phone call from afni and they told me that I owe 607.42 on a account with a bank. The set me up on a 85.04 payment arrangement plan. Then they told me that they will settled for 425.19. I been reading a lot of comments I now I owe this accout but I'm afraid of paying afni. The payment might not get settled like they say.
