Aiken Regional Medical Centers - The ER challenge
On September 12th, Madison my home care nurse changed the dressing on my Picc line, which was the 2nd visit to change the dressing, everything was well until September 13th, when I was awakened by the pain of the PICC line, I called Madison and she told me she could not come to me until September 16th. I wrapped the arm because the dressing was coming off...

Being seen during a visit to the Aiken regional medical center emergency room staff.
Have been waiting 6 hours and still not have been seen. Still setting and waiting
This place has no management to oversee the day to day operation of this third world emergency room.
I was here awhile ago and after checking in because I was bleeding I sat waiting 3 hours before I was seen. I was given a towel to set on and it was soaked through and onto the seat.
I think if you would WALK, don't run, to a hospital in Chicago you have a better chance to be seen in a timely manner.
This place has absolutely no idea what Triage is.
I feel sorry for anyone needing emergency care and you have to ho to the Aiken Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. God bless.
Desired outcome: Someone needs to evaluate this third world emergency room and make the necessary changes.
ARMC is showing how unsupervised they are. We got a letter today informing my wife she's scheduled for a test TODAY 4 hours after we got the letter.
They just keep getting worse and worse.
They claim they Triage but they don't even know what Triage means.
Currently there is no management oversight at this third world emergency room.
Concerns about the intensive care unit
Good morning,
My name is Ree Ex Doe. I am the son of Mrs. Henrattie Doe. My mother arrived on May 28th, 2022, to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) there in Aiken, South Carolina until her passing on July 18th, 2022. My mother was 87 years old and had several major medical issues. She was in the ICU the entire time. I had the chance to interact with several doctors, nurses, as well as other staff members. Most of the staff were totally professional and cordial in their duties and interactions. But several were not. I could tell by the body language, expression, and demeanor that some of their issues could be construed as personal. These individuals should understand people do not visit hospitals because they are bored or do not have anything else to do.
Let me tell you a little about myself and why I think I am qualified and experienced to see and know the difference. I have worked almost 40 years for the United States government in various capacities. From my time in the United States Marine Corps, The Department of Justice as a supervisor, departmental head (supervisor), Executive Staff and for the Office of Personnel Management conducting background security investigations. Also, I have conducted various staff investigations into their discipline on and off duty. I have referred cases to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Office of Inspector General and Office of Internal Affairs as a member of the Executive Staff.
I have been in hospitals as a staff supervisor with the Department of Justice in the Operation Rooms and Intensive Care Unit in various states: Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, California; Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Florence, Colorado; Rochester, Minnesota. Even locally in Beaufort, Orangeburg, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia while as a supervisor overseeing inmates. I have assisted Public Health Service Officers in the medical department conducting audits in preparing for accreditation for the Joint Commission at several facilities. So I have some knowledge and have seen professionalism at various places and different levels throughtout my career. Upon my mother's admission to the hospital, I took the initiative to review job descriptions from the Office of Personnel Manual to have a better understanding.
I do understand nurses should provide physical, psychological, and emotional support to patients and their families. They should supervise and direct the operations of less-skilled nurses such as licensed practical nurses. They should be compassionate and empathetic to the needs and conditions of patients, thus they respond in an understanding manner. They should monitored every aspect of patient healthcare, including their physical and emotional condition. Those nurses in question were definitely lacking in these areas. I would ask questions about their position, duties, and the length of their service in the medical field to know the level of their experience. To my dismay, those nurses in question were some of the most senior and could have a bad impact to their subordinates or the junior ones
This email is in reference to my little sister, a mommy girl and how I believe she was mistreated. My sister is Christain woman, never using profane language or consuming anything stronger than a soda. She was hurt seeing our mother dying and for her to endure such negative behavior from a few. My mother probably was just another patient to some of the nurses in question, but she was still our mom. I felt my sister was disrespectful to say the least. I even heard nurses at the station talking about her. I would highly recommend to those in question to be very careful in their behavior and how they deal with others' family members. It was difficult for me to see and as her brother, to get her to understand that our mother's time was near. She begged me to stay quiet as she was afraid, they may do something to our mother. It was no worries for me. It should be noted that other doctors and nurses were assisting me in getting my sister to understand the alternatives and their experience as well with their loved ones.
I must say that I believe the doctors and the nurses tried everything they could possibly do for my mother. But my mother was overwhelmed with medical issues. But this email is not about them (good staff members) but that 10 percent in all of the workforces. I will personally send an email in the next few days asking our representatives to commend these workers as they are well-deserving. One of the problems in our society is we refuse to bring our concerns to the appropriate staff to deter this type of behavior. I believe all concerns must be documented in writing future references if this type of behavior persists. If it is not documented, then it did not happen.
I brought a complaint to the critical care director in the ICU onset. She took a statement as I was allowed to address my concerns. She gave me one of her business cards just in case I had any future concerns. I called her on July 22nd at 4:54p.m. after the death of my mother to address some of these concerns. However, she did not have the common decency to return my call. Totally unacceptable to say the least for a person in a leadership and supervisory position. Of course, I knew she was only appeasing me to deter any future complaints. I am very experienced with this type of behavior. My mother had already passed but there are other patients in the ICU with little or no visits or support from their families or friends. But they are still humans and Americans. This email is more about them as I can only imagine how they are being treated if there is no one to see or speak on their behalf. But this is where I as a private citizen comes in. I even saw a patient in room 4 was about to fall out of the bed. I brought it to the attention of one of the nurses and the look I received was beyond me. But I was keeping notes. Do not ask me who and it is obvious some training is needed in communication,
I believe in the old adage from the Marine Corps. I want the good ones promoted and bad ones busted. Employees must understand whether they work on the federal or state levels, they work for the American people. We as taxpayers (employers) expect the best from our employees as we are the reason, they get paid. Again, I will write a letter to the representative of this state for those doctors and nurses that I consider that went over and beyond their call of duty. Their professionalism and dedication is what any organization should expect from their representatives.
Desired outcome: Training
Wrist surgery performed in September 2019
Dr. Evan Ekman performed surgery on my wrist in Sept. 2019. He was supposed to have put a bracket and screws in my arm for my wrist where it was broken. He only put a post in it.
It was deformed when he removed the post out of it and did not give me any medication and I almost passed out with pain.
I just had corrective surgery performed on it and they had to cut both bones in my left arm to correct his surgery. I lost 1/-4" off of my left arm and still do not have full function with my index finger on that hand. I cannot left more than a gallon of milk with it. I also have a 2 3" scars where they had to go in and cut my two bones.
Joanne Huckabee Grubb
Desired outcome: Compensation for loss of arm for almost 3 years and pain and suffering. He should perform the surgery as he tells the patient not what he finds more convenient.

I am complaining about my mom doctors, morals, ethics, and patient care.
10-27-2020
To whom this may concern,
My sister and I are medical Power of Attorney for our Mom in Room 414.
I am very disappointed with how the Doctors at Aiken Regional Medical has treated my mom health care. I am convinced there is ethical morals has been negligent for patient care. I am appalled at the doctors that took an oath to treat each patient with care and yet it's as if her doctors do not care. My mom was first admitted to Aiken Regional [protected] and have been a patient as of 10-27-20. My sister and I have been in contact with her doctors and nurses. On 10-22-20 We spoke with Dr. Chinta and gave him our concerns about having our mom transfer to Augusta University to their cancer unit. We want to have another set of eyes to look her tumor and see what he can do since it's a cancer center. In this same day we spoke with Dr. Flander, DR. Chinta, Dr. Frye, Dr. Chandler who ensure us that her transfer will be completed. We were given an oncologist specialist Dr. Kruse at this location. On 10-25-20 @ 5pm, My sister call A.U. to the oncologist department to find out if any rooms are available and someone at the nurses' station said yes. She then calls back to tell Dr. Chinta that A.U. advise they are taking patients transfer and they do have beds available and for Aiken Regional to transfer her paperwork. Dr. Chinta said the hospital and Doctor must accept her as a transfer patient. Surgery could not be performed at Aiken Regional because they were not equipped to perform that type of surgery and Dr. Kruse is known for his work in this area. The doctors at Aiken Regional is not giving my mom her fighting chance of living. I say this because as of 10-26-20 @ 3:30pm Nurse Kevin advise me that Dr. Chinta said there is no transfers from Hospital to Hospital, He can release my mom to use and we drive her to A.U. To us that did not make any sense because she is connected to IV's and what if she gets in so much pain on the way there that it's our fault for moving her in her condition by POV. Not only that, but when we get to A.U., we will have to wait in the waiting area for hours or days to be seen by an ER Doctor to be place in a room because it's not guaranteed that she will be admitted to the oncology department once arrived. We will still have to wait on copies of her discharge paperwork and her entire medical records form Aiken hospital. I did not understand why an independent EMS transport services could not have been set up for this, if this is what the family wanted. I have questions that were not answered.
1- What change from having a complete transfer to not having one at all?
2- Can the doctor from A.U. Perform the surgery at Aiken Regional even if they are out of network?
3- Is money a factor? She is covered by Medicare Part A &B plus she has Blue Cross Blue shield of SC Retirement
4- Why do you let patients suffer?
I will like for the Administration office to reach out to me to address my concerns. I need to hold those responsible accountable.

crisis stabilization unit - aurora
The following employees of Aiken Regional Medical Centers:
- Lisa Bartlett, RN
- Edward Gosselin, MD
- Allied Universal Officers
and the following transporting Deputy from Aiken County Sheriff's Office:
- Taylor MacKinnel
willingly and willfully participated in discrediting an anxious non-emergency patient in Crisis Stabilization Unit (Aurora) to prevent that patient from filing an EOO/ADA charge against that patient's ex-employer on behalf of an individual with HIV/AIDS, Brian Stanton, who was discriminated against by his direct supervisor, James Victor.
Lisa Bartlett and Allied Universal Officers have deliberately utilized the following statements:
"He shoots. His sons shoot."
"Would shoot you for a dollar."
"Apples taste better on this side of the table."
"Honey, we can keep you safe here, but only here!"
"...they got a Stanton problem..."
to induce fear and an overwhelming acute panic attack that caused that patient to cause harm to that patient's self and could have caused harm to others. They had absolutely no respect for that patient's privacy and partially released that patient's PHI to that patient's ex-employer, as well as, ex-employer's hired private investigators to further bully and intimidate that patient. By doing so, they furthered punished Brian Stanton, HIV/AIDS victim, who worked at Nandina Home & Design in Aiken, SC, as a furniture and drapes installer.
Lisa Bartlett, Edward Gosselin, Allied Universal Officers, and Deputy Taylor MacKinnel did not care for Brian Stanton or safety of that patient or other people who could have been hurt due to overwhelming anxiety induced by them. Unfortunately for them, the dedicated examiners at a different facility came forward, explained to that patient how Aiken Regional Medical Centers abused that patient, and became willing to defend that patient in court.

Correction - the heinous acts committed by Aiken Regional Medical Center staff members, particularly Lisa Bartlett, RN, and Allied Universal Officers took place in Flex Unit.
Incredible verbiage! I would like to add - Lexington Medical Center — emergency department .
Discrimination
Aiken Regional Medical Center - constantly has workplace disputes, discrimination claims or lawsuits filed against Aiken Regional Medical Center - mainly for racism and job discrimination... They fired their security administator; Chuck, for sexual harassment, and the staff at the Aurora Pavilion act like prostitutes, co-workers having been accused of sexually assaulting patients under their care.. Some of the doctors who've been associated with the hospital (and have their own private medical practice) has been profiled in the local news for being Horrible & Negligent Doctors: Cheeks, Eddie R MD - Academy of Womens & Childrens, Center For Primary Care: Dr. Paul Fischer- Investigated/Convicted for Medical Incompetance, Criminal Activity, & Malpractice, as well as; Dr Edwin Martinez De Andino MD (Aiken Regional Medical Center Physician convicted for attempted Murder & Sexually Assualting a Woman!) and Radhika K. Subramanian, M.D. WELCOME TO THE REAL Aiken Regional Medical Center! GENERAL PUBLIC BEWARE... Aiken Regional Medical Center and other hospitals like; the Georgia Health & Sciences University (a.k.a Medical College of Georgia) Still Supports Racism & Injustice...
"Aiken Regional Medical Center, changes it's name to avoid continuous negative publicity, and a racist history of social injustice, and poor patient customer service."- News Reporter Susan McCord..
Aiken Regional Medical Center, AIKEN, SC. – 8/30/12 Another Employee, an Administrator has filed a Discrimination lawsuit against Aiken Regional Medical Center, being harrassed and victimized by Campus Security for just checking his email! Numerous lawsuits & complaints have been filed against this Racist Hospital. Angelica Walker, a new employee was fired just for coming into work one minute late. Recently a nurse was fired for just ordering chinese food, on her lunch break. Ridiculous mandates and polices FOR HOSPITAL SECURITY to stalk and harrass any Black man on campus who doesn't dress like employees, have mounted recordbreaking lawsuits against this historically racist & feminist institution. Even their patient advisory department is a joke, the hospital's administration does little to nothing to adequately address the more serious allegations against hospital staff; and police, such as: Sex offences, racial slurs, false arrests on innocent patients, Aiken Regional Medical Center staff making personal phone calls all day during work, downloading pornographic material, ticketing drivers for non-traffic violations, barring mostly black men (employees/students) from using the same facilities as white employees, sexual discrimination, and embezzlement. Their ER prescribing harmful mediciations and killing some of their own patients, encouraging homosexual doctors to sexually assualt patients, hospital staff cursing and physically threatening patients on a daily basis. Firing mostly black employees for committing the same violations that white employees will not get fired for, Supervisors verbally abusing their co-workers, Aiken Regional Medical Center, is indead a lousy medical facility, and has changed Hospital Administrators & employees more times than high schoolers have changed career choices! Aiken Regional Medical Center has often been exposed for hiring people (mostly whites and women) who are unqualified to work at their job positions, hiring ex-patients & people who have filed complaints against them, as Patient Advisors- to discourage them from filing future lawsuits against the hospital. The general public needs to be reminded of what this institution really represents, and Aiken Regional Medical Center is just one of many corrupt organizations that is an embarrssment to the state of South Carolina...

The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Have been here 5 hours. Witnessed a patient being dropped on the floor from thier wheelchair. Other patients have been waiting over 8 hours. Staff appears to just be waiting patients out, so that they just get disgusted and leave, without any treatment, but they want payment immediately.

I totally agree 100%
I would agree with you 100% Ken! I was there at the end of August with a broken leg, torn meniscus, and torn PCL and sat UNCOMFORTABLY for 4 hours waiting to be seen. Mind you when I went to triage, I told them my pain level on a 1-10 was a 15. They had no urgency to get me seen. No I was not the only patient in there needing attention but I went to two other ERs after that visit and chose another hospital clearly and they got me into a room and got me comfortable immediately. This place is horrible. It has been for years. Nothing changes.
I need to not go to ARMC Emergency Room. Better off just go to the funeral home.
