I own my home on Cockrell Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas. In later Sumer of 2022, I noticed my previously healthy, green lawn was beginning to loos spotty and yellow. I have a sprinkler system, so I increased my watering days. The lawn failure progressed and by early fall I had many areas of dead and dying grass, I hired a lawn care company rot help with this mysterious grass loss. There was no improvement and the lawn specialist was baffled. In the spring of 2023, I noticed one my red oak trees was less green than the other and the leaves were less green and growth was stunted. By the beginning of Summer say lawn was entirely dirt, absolutely no grass at all. Meanwhile all my neighbors had green healthy lawns. On May 3, 2023, I received an emergency call to come evacuate my special needs son and caregiver from my home. I took several days and many heavy equipment machinery vehicles to find and repair the gas leak. Atmos had discovered a long existing gas leak in a line in front of my home. I was told by the Atmos representative and the Fire Department personnel that my front yard soil was 100% saturated with natural gas. By the time of this event my grass was dead and my tree appeared dead.
I hired an arborist to determine the health of my tree. I have incurred significant cost related to this gas leak. The lawn company, extra water days, fertilizer, soil, manure and arborist. To prepare the lawn for the sod which Atmos installed by a contracted company, I hired a company to prepare the ground by leveling, aerate, fertilizer and fresh soil before the company came to lay the sod.
I now have a 50 year old tree which will need to be removed . And sadly, my beautiful red oak tree will no longer proved the cooking shade to my house. It is incumbent on Atmos Gas to compensate me for this dangerous and costly gas leak,.
Desired outcome: It is my hope that Atmos will honor their fault in the death of my tree as the did my grass and pay for the removal of my dead 50 yr old red oak tree.
