I arrived back from Sydney on Friday 6th October, at approximately 1.30am. (flight NZ0110)
We were already an hour late and pulled up just short of the Gate. Unbelievably, we sat there for 20 mins as there was no Marshaller to guide us in. Then the airbridge was slow. So finally off the aircraft the passport control was great, luggage arrive very quickly, and then came Bio-security.
What an embarressment. What a disgrace.
The area is cramped, crowded, and understaffed. It's filthy and the staff that are there seemed undertrained. I was fortunate in that we were the only aircraft in at that time so hit took a mere 30 mins, which at 2am was ridiculous.
Then on emerging into the greeting area, I was greeted by stench of marijuana smoke filling the air.
I have travelled to Africa many times and this was the worse than any experience I have had there - and I understand that the Bio-security have have up to 2 hour waits!
In and airport where the departure experience is excellent, this arrival disaster MUST be fixed. No more excuses - just more space, more efficiency, more trained staff, less of a shambles, less embarrassment. Its an absolute disaster for NZ welcoming visitors from overseas.
Desired outcome: A spacious, efficient, welcoming bio-security, consistent with 1st World standards and tourist expectations.
